Weekly Kettlebell Discussion Thread October 19 - October 25, 2026

Welcome Gireviks and Girevitchkas!

This is the r/KettlebellSport Discussion Thread posted every Monday, where you can discuss anything related to Girevoy Sport (GS). Training logs, competition prep discussion, and technique/programming questions are all welcome! You are also allowed to vent all you want about how hard this shit is because - spoiler alert - it's really fucking hard. Commiserating with friends makes it a little easier :)

General kettlebell questions/comments/concerns (not related to Kettlebell Sport) are welcome here too, although you'll get far more eyes over at the normal people sub, r/kettlebell.

I'm going to put to put together some more info for beginners but in the meantime feel free to refer to this spectacular resource from the one and only Tally. We wait patiently for his return.

Dialed up the timer to 12, experienced time warp with 16KG in each hand

Set the timer to 12 just to see what happens. (16KG). this is my second set ever beyond 6 minutes. looked down at 8 minutes, already in a world of pain, ready to bail, but suffering plateaued and even eased. Then I blacked out and it was over. It’s wild getting a feel for time, and gaining trust that your body will keep up if you push it. Im certainly looking forward to my next long set. (goals: 5 mins 24kg at 7rpm by EOY, and 10 mins 24kg at 7rpm by February 2027) let’s see.

long cycle form check

I've been on the long cycle bandwagon for some months now and hope I might get some other sets of eyes. I would be really grateful if anyone could spare a few minutes to point out anything I need to work on.

This is 4x1' sets at 8 rpm with 24kg, which is more than I typically lift (usually 16 or 20) but I thought the heavier weight might be good for assessing my form. I switch to side view in the third and fourth sets.

I think the main issue I have, that I cannot seem to fix, is that I am not close to locking the weights out when my heel hits the ground and I still do between 1/4 and 1/8 of a press as I go into the second dip. Even when I think I am doing better, I go back and watch the video and I am not.

Really appreciate any feedback.

Injuries and dealing with them

I recently started training with the 24lg and introducing jerks back into the mix. While cleaning the 24kg, I felt something pull in my wrist and a day later, extreme supination's painful. And there's some discomfort in my right elbow when I extend it. Probably because of the jerks not mixing well with my hyperextending elbows.

The questions I have:

  1. How often do you have such issues?

  2. How do you keep the "skill" part? I can't train GS for a while. I'm focusing on keeping up my strength and conditioning, but am worried about losing the actual skill of GS.

  3. How do you deal with this mentally? I have my own process. Just want to hear yours.

Thanks

Training Woo! 3 4 minute sets! Question: how do you pace reps? Clock? Breaths? Subconscious timing?

I was “assigned” 3 4 minute sets with 3 minute breaks. 18kg with 7rpm.

the calculator in my head was trying to divide 60 by 7 and then try to pick up on the natural feel of 7rpm, then I found that 3 breaths in the rack almost worked out, until I started huffing.

how do gs folks pace themselves? breaths in rack? clock? do they calibrate only at the minute level? (it’s hard to watch the clock always).

Chill 4 min 18 kg LC at 7rpm, then 6 rounds of 1 min on 1 min off cleans at 20rpm.

So good to get in the flow and ease the mind at night. I’m not too experienced with long sets > 1 min. I’ve been using Muse AI to help me an achieve a 5 minute set of 24kg long cycle at 7rpm. It pings me every night with a workout to follow and i tell it how it went. It always says “ah rookie mistake!” Anyways been loving the longer sets and bliss that arises from self punishment over long periods.
