Pictures Saturday Morning
It always looks so flat - but in actuality there is chop/swell everywhere. Super fun morning session!

Got a basic question about which type of boat you should buy, or what type of rack your car might need? Before asking a question of the subreddit as a whole, please take a look at these two brief resources first. A lot of the commonly-asked questions on the subreddit can be answered by these two items:
These guides are a work in progress. If you still have additional questions, feel free to ask! When posing a question to the community, please be sure to be as specific as possible with your post title. That way you'll get the most helpful response from others browsing the sub.
A note for the broader /r/kayaking community:
Spring is on the way, and /r/kayaking has crossed the 80,000 member-mark. A big thanks to everyone who has and continues to contribute to the community here. As the weather warms up, and more people join us, we are likely to see an increasing influx of "beginner" questions about basic boat and gear purchases. A lot of these questions are very similar if not identical, and can be answered by a shared guide for the subreddit. Similar guides or FAQs are available for other subreddits specializing in gear-specific hobbies.
The mod team is in the process of developing a shared knowledge base on the subreddit wiki. The immediate goal is to be able to refer new users to a basic guide that concisely answers the most common questions. The longer-term goal is reducing the volume of low-effort posts with questions that could be answered by Google, and increasing the volume of valuable, specific questions and discussion on the subreddit.

I got to visit Fancher Falls yesterday. It's a really neat location, definitely worth a trip if you're nearby. The air was getting a bit chilly, but the lake itself is still warm. There's a short hike at the last section to reach the actual falls. I walked up the river in crocs with a greenland paddle for support, and my friend who didn't bring water shoes climbed over the slopes instead.
It's an 8km round trip starting from the Cookeville Boat Dock. There's a restaurant at the dock, but it's closed for the season.

Two part question. I am an almost 50 year old female and I want to start kayaking but I’d do it alone. I have no idea what I’m doing but I’m dying to get in the water to just be…… recommendations on kayak, considering weight of unit in and off top of an outback. Bonus if you bc a recommend a good rack for a 26 outback that already has side bars. Thanks!!!!!

Had a last minute paddle on Lake Frederick today. Beautiful scenery and so peaceful. Might be the end of the season? Might not. 😁
Just what the mind needed though. Have a great weekend, everyone!

Turning 40 later this year and bought myself an early birthday present. A cute blue and pink Stellar kayak. In love with her and how much distance I can cover comfortably with her

Last month I turned "old" so I wanted to challenge myself and do a multi night kayaking trip at lake Mead. The only good photos were from the first day. I will be planning another one by Thanksgiving if the weather allows.
Suck it younger me!

If you use a ski dash here is a good option for a bar extension for it. If you use a surfski and are looking for a way to mount your GPS, Phone, Watch, GoPro, anything at all then I would highly recommend a ski dash. It was developed and produced by fellow paddler David Miller and works awesome.

Currently use a prowler 13 for mostly inshore bay saltwater fishing. Been eyeing tarpon 140s for a while and just wondering if i will be able to notice anything different. Im not a huge guy and wont be standing but would like to be faster on the water.

As the title says, i planning to get a electric motor aling with battery and my main concern is the weught limit as i will be at 90 to 95% of kayak limits including all the gear.
I have read that it is not possible for stabilizers to support with weight but rather can help with stability.
ChatGPT came with an idea of towing some gears with a floats ( ideally inflatable cooler as shown in the picture)
I am thinking of keeping the battery inside as it weighs around 10 to 12 kgs which reduces the weight on my kayak.
For information, i already have stabilizers attached to my kayak which really helps with swels and sudden baots passing by.
I would really appreciate your inputs, experience and what to expect.

I grabbed this on offerup this weekend. It's 20 years old with some sun damage. It still had the original straps and handles. The straps were in bad shape. I replaced the cord to the rudder. I lubed and got the foot pedals moving easier. Can you think of anything else I should do before I take it out this weekend? I threw it in the pool to test the rudder so I know it works. I included a pic of everything that it came with. In one pic there's some homemade wiring setup. I'm assuming it's for a bait tank. I have a couple other kayaks already. A Cobra tandom and a couple inflatables. Thanks.

My son bought an Ascend 128T kayak. The handle straps were weak and broken. We are tying to replace them but can not figure out how to get the screws out. Some seem seized which we were able to loosen but now we can not get it to pull out even though it turns. Any ideas appreciated.

A beautiful morning trip around a winding lake. The colors were really popping and the leaves are just starting to fall. This was not typical for northern Wisconsin in October, but I'll take it! The hubs wore shorts! And I'm refusing to remove my racks yet - if its over 50F, I'm going out!

So so I've been trying to decide between the Sea eagle 385 and 465 fastrak. It won't be used as tandem all that often but I will sometimes have a 12 year old boy a backpack and a cooler with me. I had been thinking the 385 because I think it will be big enough for that, but the extra room of the 465 is very tempting. For those of you that have tried them is the 465 really that much harder to maneuver paddling solo?
