Sentencing Documents for Laura Michelle Owens

These documents include her computer/electronic device usage rules. She inform APD of her ownership or control of all electronic devices including computers, mobile phones and tablets. She must obtain prior written permission from APD before purchasing any new electronic devices. She must report all of her communication (email, etc) and cell phone accounts, along with the passwords for all accounts and devices.

Today serial pregnancy fraud Laura Owens was sentenced for her crimes against multiple victims. Laura’s abuse of the courts is harmful to women who bring forward honest claims and rely on our justice system. Years ago this man, Clayton Echard, made a first impression on me not because of a scandal or because of a rose ceremony from hell, but because I remembered his vulnerability and grace when he was presented with hatred towards him on national television. Clayton has never been afraid to be himself. I reached out to him in one of my own tough moments and I was met with kindness and sincerity that meant a lot to me. He didn’t have to take the time to help me. This happened privately where no one would ever know unless I chose to disclose it. He’s just a kind person who truly wants to help other people. A lot has happened since then. It’s been years. There have been many different haircuts. But after all this time and everything he’s faced, I’ve never seen his humanity or resilience fade. Today I was able to go watch Clayton stand up for himself in court and give his victim impact statement. Whatever he may feel about the outcome, I think he has a lot to be proud of. I know I am proud of him. And have much love and respect for him.

While I won’t pretend to know how things will go from here for Laura Owens, I hope this woman who chose to target him is able to turn her life around. While I don’t feel optimistic that she will change, the world is full of hurt people who take out their pain on others. And more than anything, I want to think we live in a world where that change is possible when being held accountable. I have no more harsh words or insults for Laura. Just a sincere hope that she will do better and stop harming others.

Ep. 18 Bonus

TL;DR: The judge sentenced Laura to 30 days in jail and 7 years of probation. The state had asked for 12 months total. The defense and Laura's parents asked for probation only. The state's slideshow included texts, HCG clinic emails, and the uncropped "belly" photo. Clayton, Greg, and Stormy all asked for jail.

⚖️ The Sentence

• The judge said he could sentence anywhere from 0 days to 12 years on Count 1 alone.
• He said "suffering has become a spectator sport." He also said he focuses on the "why," and here it doesn't make sense.
• He said it was either a [sophisticated] shakedown or a series of very poor decisions. He called it the worst plan he's ever seen.
• He noted she never actually benefited from any of it, but she cost everyone money. He called it poorly thought-out behavior.
• He started by saying "no jail, 5 years probation," then clarified: 30 days in jail.

🧾 What the State Asked For

• 5 months per victim (10 months total for Greg and Clayton)
• +1 month for perjury, +1 month for the stolen sonogram (12 months total)
• 10 years of supervised probation
• The state said the presentation took 9 weeks to build because of how much fraud there was, just within the period they reviewed.

📱 The State's Slideshow (Clayton Timeline from Laura's iCloud)

• Day after hooking up with Clayton: she texted her sister that she planned to date him. She listed "all other plans" and wrote "no sex" in the text.
• 8 days later: she told her sister she had spent 16 hours with a different guy.
• 9 days later: she emailed a clinic asking for HCG injections, saying it was to "clean up her skin."
• 11 days later: she told Clayton she was pregnant. Detectives found 6 weeks' worth of HCG injections.
• Texts showed her asking her sister if she could use her sister's ultrasound to trick Clayton. Her sister emailed it to her, and Laura photoshopped in twins.
• They showed the uncropped version of the photo she claimed was her dad holding her belly. It was clearly her sister.
• They showed botched videos and images of her fake belly, including one warped so badly her body looked like a swirl.
• Her mom appeared to be seeing that image for the first time. She audibly said "oh my god."

🗂️ Greg Timeline and Statement

• The state said she targeted Greg from June 2021 to present. From Aug 5–8 there were 125+ pages of messages after Greg caught her using a fake ultrasound.
• Greg's statement:
  • He said he had to sell his car to fight claims he says were lies.
  • He said she had DV orders served at his workplace despite knowing where he lived.
  • He said her allegation that he orchestrated her rape severely damaged his reputation.
  • He listed his losses as $65K in attorney fees, $200K in lost commission, and $100K for pain and suffering. Laura's mom immediately started whispering to her at that point.
  • He said Laura only talks about the harm to her, brags about Barry's Bootcamp and living in a nice area, and "has learned nothing."
  • He requested the maximum jail time.

💔 Stormy's Letter (Whose Ultrasound Was Used)

• Stormy said she lost 4 babies before the ultrasound Laura used.
• She said Laura used her pain to live her own life, and that it felt like part of her identity as a mother was stolen.
• She said she now worries about her privacy. She shared her story on her own terms, and that didn't give Laura the right to use it.
• She asked for jail. She said she doesn't ask lightly and has compassion, but this was multiple intentional choices.
• Multiple people in the courtroom were crying.

🎤 Clayton's Statement

• He was very emotional. He said he just wants to be heard, since he can't control the outcome.
• He said Laura isn't sorry, just sorry she got caught.
• He pointed out that she pleaded guilty while also trying to get a restraining order against Mike.
• He said her image in court is itself a performance, because she goes to the gym twice a day. He said this is the first time she doesn't get to choose her suffering.
• He said incarceration is an absolute must and that she needs to be removed from her environment.

🔄 State's Rebuttal of the Defense Mitigation (Unusual)

• The state said her appearance in court is intentional and meant to gain sympathy.
• The state said Ozempic was found in her home during the search, and she was adamant they not take it.
• The investigator called her relentless, and said she becomes vindictive when she doesn't get her way.
• The state said one victim still hasn't come forward because he's afraid of her.
• The state discussed Mike's case, including the Iceland trip. Per the state, Laura was clingy and Mike wanted nothing to do with her.
• The state said the TEDx photo she used to suggest Mike put her in the hospital was taken 4 years before the Iceland trip and was unrelated to DV.
• The state's closing called it the result of a life of privilege. It said her presentation in court is orchestrated, called her "a terrorist in her own right," and argued that no jail would teach her she can get away with it.

🛡️ Defense (DU1L)

• He said he has served as a judge before, so he understands the judge's position.
• He disputed Clayton's claim that she won't stop, saying she tried to dismiss the paternity case.
• He disputed the claim that she wanted fame, saying she tried to seal the case.
• He said Laura still wants to be a mother and feels this case has made that harder.
• He shared that he was charged with 14 felonies when he was younger, as an example of recovery. He has now practiced law for 26 years.
• He said the online attacks aren't mitigation but show she has already been "punished in the court of public opinion." He called the SWAT raid "completely overboard" and said the online community is more dangerous than Laura.
• He said some consequences were deserved: the criminal referral, losing her home, and the indictments. He said what victims and the online community say is unfair, and that extreme members of JFC contact her directly.
• He corrected the state on two points. He said she never claimed innocence, and that she filed only one lawsuit (against Greg); the rest were restraining orders.
• He disputed Greg's account of the rape allegation, and Greg shouted from the gallery that it wasn't true.

👪 Laura's Parents

• Jan (mom):
  • She said she relies on Laura to care for her and Ronn, so jailing Laura would punish Jan.
  • She said Laura has suffered for 10 years and has already been punished through reputational harm.
  • She said people want a harsh sentence so they can keep monetizing her pain.
  • She said she still believes Laura was pregnant.
  • She said Laura "did everything right" by not talking to the media, and called Laura the real victim. She asked for probation only.
• Ronn (dad): He said he loves his daughter and begged the court not to take her away.

🗣️ Laura's Statement

• She said she wants to take accountability. She said she pleaded guilty and is "profoundly sorry" for failing to meet standards of honesty, and that her remorse isn't because she was caught.
• She said shame grew as the case grew.
• She described online harassment and said she received death threats. She said she came to believe what was posted about her, and that it took a heavy personal toll.
• She said she recently started getting help.
• She said she can't go to jail because her mom and her horses need her. She asked to begin accountability at home.
• She was talking to her lawyer through much of the victim statements, and he appeared to be telling her this wasn't the time to argue.

After the statements made today by family. Any chance they go after the mom? How are there no charges for Sarah? I feel like they all need jail time.

What’s stopping Laura from hypothetically complaining of chest pain every 2 days to get brought to the hospital, decreasing the actual time she spends in jail?

That might sound exaggerated but she’s literally the poster child for feigning medical issues to achieve a certain outcome. I wouldn’t be surprised…

God, her existence irks the life out of me.

Where do you think Laura will do her 400 hours of community service?

My thought is that she could muck out the stalls at the Maricopa County Mounted Units stable. Since she likes horses so much. But I would be afraid that she would try to hook up with one of the police officers.

The hypocrisy of these words is astounding. Would any judge say the same words if a man terrorized women for years?

The sentence he handed down is a joke. The sentence just made it easier for evil people to use the court purely as a weapon with next to no consequence for lying about everything.

Infuriating. Judge claims she's not some "mastermind", just a sad lonely woman? What about all the accusations she doubled down on, causing her victims so much money, time, and effort to defend themselves from her lies. Jan got up there and lied - it has been PROVEN she wasn't pregnant, Jan. It was proven she wasn't sexually assaulted, Jan. Her ex lawyer got up there and lied. How the judge didn't see through the entitlement and manipulation is beyond me. Especially the way she behaved to the cops, the way she made a mockery out of the court system with her tactics and games. Unfuckingbelievable. I am just so disgusted. No justice was served today. None.

I was disappointed when I heard 10 of the 14 felonies were going to be dropped. Then I heard one of the remaining felonies had prison time so I thought maybe she will be properly punished.

I had hoped that the judge would have thought she get enough of a break with the 10 dismissals but no the judge got sucked in to her fairytale. The judge treated LO like she was a victim who accidentally took a case of beer and needed to be punished.

Due to the lenient sentence I hope the prosecutors appeal it so a longer sentence is imposed.

Lately in courts we are seeing way too many cases where criminals punishment are treated like a supermarket BOGO and multiple crimes get sentenced concurrent. In this instance the judge spoke as if LO accidentally butt dialed the wrong person.

Justice was not served today. Today the victims got served a plate of suck it up buttercup.

Why didn't she have to openly admit her crimes???

I hope she violates her probation.

I am not sure what is happening with 12News coverage as the audio is awful, but I found it on Fox10 Phoenix on YouTube.

Was an avid follower from the start and really felt like the only valid fair result was her spending time in jail but after hearing the judges comments on the reason she did what she did was either her being a scammer vs a mental health issue it sort of resonated with me. People with mental health issues need an alternative to jail this country does not provide. Her end game was not money but power and control and the evidence definitely points to mental health issues. Hearing her play the victim on the stand was tough though.

As we all lay our heads down to sleep tonight please take a moment to remember this is more about the victims and less about LO Let’s all pray the the judge hear’s the victim statements and how LO robbed them of peace in their life, they were robbed of financial security due to paying lawyers, robbed of employment opportunities, So much was taken from them and they can never get that time back. LO chose the behavior make her have the consequences that are deserved. Make the punishment allign with the same negative impact the victims experienced. Deviate from the score sheets and apply enhancements. Godspeed gentleman my prayer is as this door closes and a new one opens to a happy and prosperous future.
