The most famous living jazz musician?
Based the linked thread.
Who you got? I say it’s Kenny G. This isn’t to say he’s a good or bad jazz musician. Just that he’s the most famous.

To my David Sanborn fans, I came across this live recording from 2003. The crowd from the second set had better energy.

I went to school for jazz for two years and to put what I’m saying most clearly I present this interaction:
During combo one day we began learning a Miles Davis song, I cannot remember which one unfortunately, and I suggested a slight alteration to our arrangement as I thought it’d sound better with the way we’d been playing it to which my teacher responded “do you really think you can come up with something better than Miles?”
Now maybe I couldn’t but I think Mr. Davis would respect it for trying to push something forward or even being willing to try. Whenever I’ve suggested that jazz can still be original and you can bring your own flair to it, I’m met with general responses of “okay but you need to respect the tradition..” and yes, you do, but since when was being creative and original not part of that? It’s not like I’m reinventing the wheel, I just do things slightly different.
I ran into this and similar arguments so many times that it created a genuine disliking for the way they teach jazz in school, at least that one. I also recall being told “we’re not here to make you artists, we’re here to get you a job” and it’s understandable but also extremely sad. Surely there’s a balance somewhere in there.

Like the title says I’m just looking for something new or old with that psychedelic jazz funk. Some of my favorites are MMW, Scofield, weather report, lettuce, soulive to name a few, thanks in advance!

Which album, or compilation, features the song "Up in Erroll's Room"? I heard it once on the AM dial in the very early 80s, but haven't found it since. All the Erroll Garner albums I've looked at over the years do not have it -- and I used to work in music retail years ago, too. It's frustrating to have a song stuck in one's noodle for over 45 years and not be able to find it. Thanks in advance.

Hi all! In the spirit of the season, I've been working on some fall-themed tunes. Here is "Patient Is The Night" from one of my favorite shows, Over The Garden Wall.

Pretty new to jazz and trying to recognize one of the tunes he played. The setlist I got was -
1- Be careful what you wish for (original)
2- Naima
3-??
4- Acknowledgement (?)
5- Giant Steps
Thank you for the help!
