How many LinkedIn impressions does it take to get noticed by the right recruiter? 👀

I’m currently building my career as a Backend Developer, focusing on:

→ JavaScript

→ Node.js

→ Express.js

→ REST APIs

→ MongoDB

→ Git & GitHub

I’m not just looking for a job—I’m building real projects, sharing what I learn, and connecting with developers and companies along the way.

For developers who got their first job through LinkedIn: what actually worked for you?

Was it:

🔹 Posting your projects?

🔹 Networking?

🔹 Applying directly?

🔹 Getting referrals?

🔹 Something else?

I’d genuinely like to learn from your experience.

If I had to learn backend development again from zero, I would do this differently. NSFW

I wouldn't spend months trying to memorize everything.

I'd follow this loop:

Learn → Build → Get stuck → Research → Fix → Repeat

.

For example:

  1. Learn how Express routes work.

  2. Build a small API.

  3. Get stuck on authentication.

  4. Research how authentication actually works.

  5. Implement it.

  6. Break something.

  7. Debug it.

  8. Understand why it broke.

That's when programming started feeling different for me.

You don't really learn backend development by watching someone build an API.

You learn it when your own API breaks and you have no idea why.

I'm currently working through JavaScript, Node.js, Express, MongoDB and backend architecture.

For experienced developers:

What's one backend concept you wish you had learned through building projects instead of tutorials?

I'd love to learn from your experience.

How far can Booknarklets or background scripts be pushed?

I was experimenting with bookmarklets and I feel like they can be pushed to gather a lot more info than what I was able to make. (I don't think this is the right Reddit, if it isn't can someone guide me to the right one.)
