18 - Rate my Trading212 Islamic Pie - Advice wanted!

Hello,

I’m 18, UK-based and looking to invest long-term, aiming to max out my £20k Stocks & Shares ISA allowance each year.

My proposed Trading 212 pie:

  • 70% iShares MSCI World Islamic
  • 15% HSBC MSCI Emerging Markets Islamic
  • 10% iShares Physical Gold
  • 5% AMD (and or other individual stocks, their total being 5%)

Planning to invest £10k initially, then drip-feed the remaining allowance before April.

Thoughts on this allocation? Would you change anything for better diversification or long-term growth while remaining Sharia-compliant?

Looking for any advice and tips. I’m happy for people to recommend a different pie etc.

Im using Trading212.

Jazakallah Khayr

Is This a Valid Way to Protect Qard Hasan (interest free loans)Against Inflation Without Riba?

Assalamu alaikum,

Inflation makes long-term interest-free loans (qard hasan) difficult to sustain. Many Shariah-compliant alternatives are more expensive and complicated than conventional loans.

I’ve been thinking about potential alternatives and would appreciate feedback on the Shariah compatability.

Proposed structure:

  1. A loan of 150,000 is agreed upon.
  2. The lender initially disburses 75,000.
  3. The borrower repays 150,000 over 8 years.
  4. After repayment, both parties wait another 4 years.
  5. The lender then returns 75,000 to the borrower.

The contract could also be structured as two loans: the bank lends the customer 75,000 interest-free, and the customer agrees to lend the bank 75,000 at the end of the repayment term. The bank returns that amount after an agreed waiting period (4 years).

The idea:
By adjusting the waiting period, the bank can invest the funds for longer, potentially offsetting different inflation rates across countries. The bank could generate returns through halal investments (e.g., around 9% (very conservative)), while customers receive interest-free financing.

Example:
A bank starts with 750,000 and provides 75,000 to each of 10 customers. In an illustrative 12-year simulation, investing the repayments produced:
● Strong market: 3.7 million vs. 3.6 million from investing the entire amount upfront.
● Weak/volatile market: 1.1 million vs. 0.8 million, respectively.
These figures are illustrative, not guaranteed returns.

Questions:
● Is the waiting period after repayment a Shariah concern? Or does the agreement become to complicated
● Have scholars discussed anything similar?
Jazakum Allahu khairan for your insights.

How should I deal with a family member that burrowed money from me

It’s been a month since I lent a family member for 1k+ and ever since then he has been making excuses and ignoring me when I asked for certain portion back.

He was the one who originally reached out to me because he needed help with rent and bills, he said he would pay me back slowly but is barely making an effort.

What should I do, Im at point where I hate him and I regret giving him the money.

NOTE:

This is someone who completed Ummrah couple years back.

Binance’s $1M “Qafila” campaign rewards futures and perps trading. Is this a problem for Muslim users?

Binance just announced “Qafila 2026”, $1M in USDC vouchers across several tasks. The name and theme feel aimed at Muslim-majority regions (I haven’t confirmed the exact country list).

What bothered me is what the tasks involve: a first-trade reward where futures volume counts, a TradFi perpetuals reward, a futures trading competition ranked by ROI, a referral leaderboard, and a Flexible Earn task.

From what I’ve read, many scholars advise staying away from futures and margin, and Earn is debated. Binance has a separate certified “Sharia Earn,” which suggests the regular one isn’t automatically compliant.

Genuine questions:

  1. Is a first spot trade just for the reward fine, or does the reward structure itself change things?
  2. Does Flexible Earn count as riba?
  3. Is it wrong to take referral rewards when the tasks push people toward futures?
  4. Is it a concern that this kind of campaign targets Muslim-majority markets, where people may trust the branding?

I’m not looking for a fatwa, just how others are thinking about it.

Do Sukuk also utilise "purification"?

Asslam Allikum yall.

There are two opinions when it comes to purification and i choose to not apply it in any of my finances. I'm staying away from all stocks that say they use the purification concept, but with Sukuk it's much more difficult to know if they also apply purification. (usually they just say this Sukuk is sharia compliant without saying what's going on under the term)

i'd appreciate any answers or leads. thanks

thanks

How would you invest A$2,000/month to build halal assets and passive income in Australia?

Hi everyone,
I’m a 24-year-old Muslim international student living in Melbourne, Australia.
I can invest around A$2,000 per month and want to build long-term wealth through halal investments, income-generating assets, and passive income.
I’m not limiting myself to stocks or ETFs. I’m also interested in physical assets, property, small businesses, and other Shariah-compliant opportunities.

My questions:
How would you invest A$2,000 monthly in my situation?
Which halal assets would you prioritise?
What are some realistic ways to generate halal passive income?
Would you invest in Australia or overseas?
What mistakes should beginners avoid?
Are there any tax or visa considerations for international students?
I’d appreciate practical advice, especially from Muslims who have successfully built wealth through halal investments or asset ownership.
If you were starting from scratch today, what would your strategy be?
Thanks!

For those who avoid Bitcoin, is it the halal question or something else?

I’m a financial engineering grad student at Stevens, looking at how Muslim savers think about Bitcoin for a project. Many people I’ve spoken with don’t own any.

Is it the religious question, the price swings, not trusting where to buy it, or a reason I haven’t thought of?

If you’ve decided against it, or decided for it, I’d really like to hear your reasoning.

Anyone currently employed or have exp in the halal finance/mortgage sector interested in launching their own start-up?

I have a concept I want to explore that is different from the current offerings.

Pros:

- not based on traditional shared ownership/Lease to Buy

- bypasses the funding/capital bottleneck

- has the potential to be scaled beyond the Muslim audience

Cons:

- requires navigating complex legal frameworks

Comment or dm if you're interested.

StrideUp UK Islamic Finance - Any Feedback?

Hi everyone,

I am planning to refinance my current mortgage from a traditional lender to StrideUp using their Islamic home finance product.

I understand that they use a panel of approved solicitors. Has anyone completed a refinance or home purchase with StrideUp recently?

I would appreciate any feedback on:

  • Your overall experience with StrideUp
  • The application and underwriting process
  • How efficient their solicitor panel was
  • Any delays or issues you encountered
  • Anything you wish you had known before starting the process

Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences.

Early 20s student in South Africa: where do I start with saving/investing (Sharia-compliant)?

Hey everyone, I'm in my early 20s and still studying, and I want to start saving and investing but don't know where to begin. I'm Muslim, so I need options that are Sharia-compliant (no interest/riba, no haram industries).

Questions:

  1. What should I do first, build an emergency fund or start investing right away?

  2. Which accounts, platforms, or funds in SA are Sharia-compliant and student-friendly?

3.How do you check that something is actually halal, and not just marketed that way?

4.Any beginner mistakes I should avoid?

Thanks in advance!

Looking for feedback with Manzil's halal mortgage in Canada

Salam. Can anyone share their experiences with Manzil. How was the buying and closing process? Has anyone made extra payments or pay off the mortgage with them? How did that go?

We were pretty set on going with them but I saw a post here a while ago from someone who had a terrible experience while closing a house with them, so now I'm unsure. That post and account has since been deleted so I'm assuming their issue was resolved. But would still appreciate more feedback.

If anyone from Manzil can comment on that issue, that would be great too.

Advice / Help Advice

Selamaleykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,

I want to apologize in advance for my poor Grammer. I'm from Germany and my Englisch is rusty.

I'm 36 M and took a loan and since then my life is not the same anymore. I want to fix it by asking if there is any option for a halal loan? Or a privat person, I can lend and pay this one?

Currently it's a balance of - 11.605, 97€

I tried my best to pay it ASAP, but it will take me a while and in that time only Allah Subhanu wa Ta'ala knows mucu I have to endure.

You may insult me or think bad of me, but I care about you so don't do it. I don't want you get a Sin because of me.

I have no relatives who can or would lend me, not because they hate me, but cut ties with my family. Neither can my siblings help nor my parents. None of them have the capacity.

If I have posted in the wrong group, or made a blunder, I apologize, it's my first post.

JazakAllahu Khayran.

May Allah Azza wa jal forgive us and protect us all.

Halal Loan

AoA, After reading through various posts in this community, I'm coming to a conclusion that there's no halal conventional lender in Canada. I'm trying to buy a house in Manitoba province, only Assiniboine Credit Union offers here but that looks like a conventional mortgage as well. Is there any muslim family or halal business who supports other muslims to give them a halal loan? I apologize if its a stupid question, I've been away from these aspects of Islam and now I want to do the right thing. Thank you

Which ETFs would you choose?

Assalamu alaikum brothers,

I’m based in France and investing through Interactive Brokers (IBKR). I’m currently hesitating between these ETFs:

  1. HIWS - HSBC MSCI World Islamic Screened ISIN: IE000X9FTI22
  2. ISWD - iShares MSCI World Islamic ISIN: IE00B27YCN58
  3. HIES - HSBC MSCI Emerging Markets Islamic Screened Capped UCITS ETF USD (Acc) ISIN: IE0009BC6K22
  4. ISDE - iShares MSCI Emerging Markets Islamic ISIN: IE00B27YCP72

Unfortunately, SPUS, SPWO and SPTE aren’t available to me on IBKR, so I’m looking for the best alternatives.

My goal is to build a diversified portfolio for the long term. I’d appreciate your thoughts.

For those investing from France or elsewhere in Europe, which combination would you choose for a long-term portfolio, and why?

I’d really appreciate hearing your experiences and advice, especially from brothers who have been investing in these ETFs for several years.

S&P Dow Jones slightly updated its Islamic index methodology in August 2026

Thumbnail spglobal.com
1 Upvotes

The index provider updated the definitions for its "Cash Compliance" and "Leverage Compliance" ratios, while also bringing the maximum threshold from 33% down to 30%.

This is mostly technical jargon, attached PDF file is available on S&P official website if you want to read the thing first hand.

As a result, as of June 2026, on the 13,000+ companies studied by S&P Down Jones, the share of companies which successfully pass through this filter went down from ~54% to ~47%.

As a reminder, funds like SPUS, IGDA and HSBC ISLAMIC GLOBAL EQUITY track indexes provided by S&P Dow Jones.

Thoughts on my 4-ETF Shariah compliant strategy for my Roth IRA?

Assalamualaikum everyone,

I’ve recently started to get into investing more and I’m trying to come up with a simple but diversified and of course halal group of ETFs to invest in.

As of right now, this is what I’m thinking:
- 55% SPUS
- 25% SPWO
- 10% SMH
- 10% BUG

I’d just love some thoughts or feedback as a new and young investor.

JazakAllah Khairen and thank you!
