General Discussion Counter Argument: Jio Was Not the First to Make Data Affordable
People often credit only Reliance Jio for bringing cheap data to India. While Jio was definitely revolutionary in scale and speed, it was not the first to push unlimited data usage. Operators like Uninor and Aircel had been offering night data packs and cheap data plans years before Jio’s launch in September 2016. These offers significantly increased data consumption among students (I was one too and used to download and play alot of games).
What Uninor / Telenor Did -Uninor was known for disruptive pricing from the beginning. -In 2015–2016 (just before Jio), Telenor launched exclusive Night Data Packs ranging from just ₹2 to ₹48. -These packs worked from roughly 11 PM to 7 AM. -This made late-night browsing, downloading, and streaming affordable for a large section of users who couldn’t afford daytime data. -Uninor/Telenor regularly ran such low-cost data experiments because they were fighting for market share against bigger players.
What Aircel Did -Aircel was equally aggressive with night-time offers: -In May 2016 (just 3–4 months before Jio’s public launch), Aircel launched the Combo 123 pack. -It gave unlimited Aircel-to-Aircel calling + unlimited mobile data (speed reduced after 500 MB) from midnight to 6 AM. -Aircel had also offered cheaper night data and calling packs in earlier years (2014–2015). -These packs were deliberately designed for students and heavy night users.

General Discussion How many of you actually tinker with the devices you own?
I've been tinkering with my devices for as long as I can remember, whether it's software modifications or hardware repairs. For me, it's not just about custom ROMs or getting more out of my hardware. It's about actually owning the hardware you paid for and having the freedom to use it the way you want.
With software becoming increasingly loaded with spyware, adware, telemetry, and unnecessary bloat, I feel making alternative software options mainstream rather than niche is more important than ever.
Here's my current setup, from right to left in the picture:
Samsung Galaxy M51: Almost 6 years old, running Android 16 with One UI 8. Currently in TWRP recovery. It used to be my primary device until I upgraded recently. Now just using it for tinkering and testing new ROMs.
Kindle 10th Gen: Jailbroken and running KUAL. I can maintain my library completely offline and Amazon cannot show me ads or brick my Kindle.
Nintendo Switch Lite: Hardmodded with a chip, running Hekate. Recently so many Xbox 360 ports have come up and even GTA 5 has been ported to it.
Xiaomi Pad 5: Dual-booting Windows 11 ARM and Android 17 to be used as a compact notebook and a media tablet.
Asus TUF A16: Dual-booting Windows with Android TV OS 13, repurposed as a gaming console and a TV box, permanently connected to TV.
LG TV: Rooted webOS with Glasshouse app installed to block unwanted screen, microphone, and telemetry captures.
I'm curious how many of you do similar things with your devices. Do you replace phone batteries, repaste laptops, install custom ROMs, jailbreak e-readers, run Linux on older hardware, or repurpose old devices instead of replacing them?
I'd love to hear about your setups and projects, even the small ones. Share your stories to inspire others, and feel free to ask me any questions if you're interested in trying something similar.

Ask IndiaTech Money debited for two failed Airtel recharges via PhonePe and Paytm, but refund not received
Last night, I tried to recharge my Airtel number through the Airtel app using PhonePe and Paytm. Both recharge attempts showed as failed/cancelled, but ₹379 was deducted from my bank account.
To clarify, ₹379 was deducted only once in total, not twice, even though both attempts failed.
After that, I tried another recharge, and it was successful. However, I still haven't received the refund for the ₹379 deducted during the failed transactions.
Has anyone faced a similar issue with Airtel recharges? How long does it usually take for the money to be refunded?

General Discussion Cheap mobile internet probably did more for digital India than we realise..
A lot of India's digital growth happened alongside the shift to affordable mobile data.
People who once depended on computers or cybercafes could suddenly attend classes, watch tutorials, make payments and run small businesses from their phones. Jio played a major role in making mobile internet more affordable, although smartphones, UPI and other services also contributed to this change.
With the Jio IPO in the news, it'll be interesting to see how investors value a business that helped enable this much wider digital shift.

Ask IndiaTech Secondary sim recharge plan for only OTPs
I have a secondary (vi) SIM, nobody uses it, but it is registered with some of my family member's AADHAARs and banks.
I often recharge for ₹179 just in order to receive a single OTP!
All I want is to keep receiving OTPs on it with least amount of money spent on recharge. If suggested, I can also port my SIM to any other telecom.
