Hi everyone!
I'm considering investing in the Philips Hue ecosystem for my living room, but I have a few questions about its capabilities and would love to hear about your experiences.
I currently have several table lamps and a couple of floor lamps in my living room. My plan would be to replace all their bulbs with Philips Hue bulbs and install a Hue Play Gradient Lightstrip behind my Samsung TV. My TV supports the Philips Hue app.
What I'm particularly interested in is whether it's possible to configure the lighting to behave in a specific way when watching movies or TV shows.
For example, imagine a scene where there's a massive explosion or a dragon breathing fire. Ideally, I would like all the Hue bulbs in the room to illuminate in sync with that effect, briefly lighting up the entire room with the appropriate colours and brightness. As soon as the effect ends, all the lights would immediately return to a dim, warm white light at around 2700K.
In other words, I want the lighting to remain static and consistent most of the time, only reacting dynamically when something significant happens on screen. I don't want all the lights constantly changing colours or brightness throughout the entire movie.
Is this kind of setup possible with Philips Hue Sync, or does the system continuously adjust the lighting based on the colours and brightness of everything displayed on the screen? Can you configure it to behave more like ambient lighting that only reacts to significant effects, rather than constantly mirroring the picture?
I'm also interested in hearing about the reliability of Hue bulbs in everyday use.
For example, what happens if I turn off the lights using the physical wall switch and leave them switched off for a week? Will the bulbs retain their settings and reconnect to the Hue system normally when I turn the switch back on, or is there any risk of losing their configurations and having to set everything up again?
I'd appreciate any advice, especially from people who have a similar setup with multiple Hue bulbs throughout their living room and a Gradient Lightstrip behind their TV.
Thanks in advance!
