how to start for a serious project (by a unserious person)

Hello everyone, I'm a super beginner who needs some help. I vibecoded a menagement program for my father's business. Vibecoding was amazing to design it prefectly over his necessities, but now we have to make it run, and we need a sever where to put it to work and where to collect datas, so that we can use multiple devices in the same time and always be up to date. Now, what provider to choose? what should i be aware of? i wanted also to install a criptography system and maybe something else. I'm a total newbie, so be free to teach me even hard whatever u want. Thank you.

EDIT to answer some questions. the app is a management program to admin a lttle hotel, and o totally keep track of money. therefore it must be very reliable and safe. The used language is TypeScript. Now there isn't a real database, tha app is running on the browser. The plan is to base it on Pocketbase (for what claude told me). If there is a wiki or something like that to learn more about those matters, i would be very glad to read it!

Any Closte users think they're done for?

I have a ton of former clients who still remained on Closte for their web hosting, but the entirety of their sites and their own front facing website has been offline for a couple of days. Then I read that they were dissolved due to tax issues in the state of Wyoming. Any other Closte users think they're officially done for? I've had another host go offline a couple of months ago, but they reappeared and things have been hesitantly ok since then, but for my former clients on Closte, I'm thinking it may be a final goodbye with no notice.

Beta Testers

Hi all,

I’m building a managed WordPress hosting platform and I’m looking for 1 to 3 beta testers.

The idea is to take the parts people like best from the big hosts and put them in one place:

  • A clean dashboard in the style of Kinsta.
  • Git with immutable live code, like Pantheon. You push code to staging and promote it to live. Nobody can edit code on the live site, so live can’t drift from what’s in Git.
  • Fast page loads, like Rocket. The goal is a low time to first byte, with caching at the edge and servers on current Google Cloud machines (not Oracle like Kinsta).
  • DDEV support is included, so you can pull a site down to work locally and deploy from your machine.
  • CDNs, Object caching, backups and more are included.

What I’m asking for

  • Run a small site on it for about a month. It’s free.
  • Try to break it on purpose. Odd plugins, big imports, bad deploys, restores, anything you’d normally avoid doing on a real host. Pen test it if you want.
  • Tell me what’s confusing, slow, or broken. Your feedback shapes what gets built next.

Who this is for: people with small sites who are comfortable with WordPress, and especially anyone who uses Git or DDEV.

NOTE: this is a beta. Please don’t put a site on it that has to stay up. I’d rather you use a side project, a staging copy, or a test site.

If you’re interested, comment or send me a message with what kind of site you’d test (size, plugins, and whether you use Git today). I’ll pick a few and get you set up.

Thanks! To be clear this is not a promotion for my hosting company (I havent named it in the post) and am looking for serious testers. Completely unpaid and all free to test.

Spaceship vs Namecheap for a beginner starting an SMMA?

Hey everyone! I'm from India and starting my SMMA, targeting US home remodelers. This is my first time buying a domain, so I'd appreciate some advice.

Here are the prices I've found:

- Spaceship: $8.88/year, renewal at $9.98/year.

- Namecheap: ₹1,070.76/year (approx. $12.70), renewal at ₹1,421.98/year (approx. $16.90). SSL seems to cost extra.

I need a ".com" domain, web hosting for my agency website, a professional business email, WHOIS privacy, and SSL. I'll also be getting a GoHighLevel (GHL) account for my agency.

My questions:

  1. Which would you recommend: Spaceship or Namecheap? Any better alternatives?

  2. Since I'll be using GHL, do I need separate web hosting, or can GHL handle my website and landing pages?

  3. Should I buy my domain, email, and other services together or separately?

  4. What's the most affordable, beginner-friendly setup with reasonable renewal costs?

I'd appreciate advice from people who've used these providers. Thanks!

Note: USD conversions are approximate and may vary with exchange rates and payment fees.

Why some hosting companies don't update their UI?

So I've tried hetzner and OVH among other ones. Their UI is absolutely horrendous but you can't beat their server prices. I've tried digitalocean and their (previous) design is absolutely gorgeous, meanwhile my new OVH server i wish to never have to open their website and bear witness of that abomination.

Why don't they update it? I bet they have some full-time frontend or UI/Ux designer, is there a reason for this?

WHMCS Alternative

I am currently working on building an alternative to WHMCS, and I would love to get some honest feedback from hosting providers and people who currently use WHMCS.

The goal is to offer the same core functionality as WHMCS, including client management, automated billing, invoicing, hosting automation, domain management, support tickets, and payment gateway integrations, but at a much more affordable price.

My proposed pricing:

  • $9.99/month
  • $99.99/year

The idea is to offer the full feature set without the high monthly cost that can come with existing solutions.

I would love to know:

  1. At this price, would you consider switching from WHMCS to an alternative?
  2. What do you dislike most about WHMCS?
  3. What features or integrations would an alternative absolutely need before you'd consider switching?
  4. Would you trust a new platform if it offered the same functionality at a significantly lower price? What would you need to see first?

I am trying to understand whether there's genuine demand before going further with development.

I am interested in honest feedback, even if your answer is no. Thanks!

European GPU provider

Hello! I've been searching for an alternative to the European Vast.ai datacenters.

Although they must have some degree of privacy and certifications, I'd prefer to know who has my data.

So I started digging for trustful European bare metal GPU providers. I want to install a Qwen 27B so 24G or 32G must be ok.

I only found expensive alternatives: Hetzner (DE), Leader GPU(NL). Also API providers some who promise no data retention. I was dissapointed by Verda and Aki after reading they had partnerships with the big ones. Also leafcloud(NL) seemed ok but is too expensive.

Besides these, I found providers with links / branches outside EU.

I'm trying to avoid spending more than 1k for a local config (probably with Arc B60 24G).

Is there any provider I have overlooked?

Thanks

Bluehost Has the Worst Customer Service and Business Practices

Bluehost has been one of the most frustrating web hosting providers I’ve dealt with. Their customer support, whether through live chat agents or automated bots, is extremely disappointing.

You often have to repeat your questions multiple times, and the responses rarely address the actual issue. Instead, you receive generic, templated replies that offer little to no practical help. Many responses are just a single line that fails to resolve the problem.

Getting connected to a live agent is a nightmare in itself. It takes far too long, and even after finally reaching someone, you may have to explain everything from scratch. Agents often fail to review the previous chat history, forcing you to repeat the same details and waste even more time.

Good customer support should save customers time, not make simple issues unnecessarily complicated. Based on my experience, Bluehost seriously needs to improve its support process, communication, and overall customer service.

Hosting on Netlify Pro, and alternatives with built-in forms/SMTP?

Hi all,

I run a small web consultancy and build static sites for small local clients (restaurants, taxi companies, tradesmen, clubs). I currently deploy them GitHub → Netlify, and I’d like to offer hosting to my clients as a monthly service, invoiced by me.

I’ve read that you can “sell” hosting if you’re on the Pro tier, but the terms of service seem to say you need a specific signed agreement with Netlify. I haven’t found a clear answer on what is actually allowed.

Questions:

  1. Has anyone here resold Netlify hosting to clients on Pro? Did you need a separate agreement, or do you just keep the sites under your own team and bill clients for management?
  2. Can you recommend an alternative to Netlify (not Vercel) with similar developer experience: Git-based deploys, previews, forms handling, and built-in email/SMTP sending?
  3. Has anyone tried a self-managed route instead, such as a VPS on Hetzner with Coolify? How is it day to day (updates, backups, security, uptime) when you’re hosting 10-20 small client sites?

Cost, reliability and low maintenance matter more to me than having every feature. Any real-world experience is appreciated!

Thanks!
