General Question Calling helicopter pilots who’ve left the cockpit for a more consistent career
After 8 years flying, I’m ready to transition into a role with more predictability and stability.
I’d really appreciate hearing from pilots who have already made the switch:
• What job or career path did you move into?
• How well did your piloting skills (decision-making under pressure, technical knowledge, leadership, safety mindset, etc.) transfer?
• Anything you wish you’d known beforehand?
Any advice, lessons learned, or role suggestions would be hugely helpful. Thanks in advance.
* I should add I am female, Canadian and did my training privately. I’m currently in the process of going into CFi at American school but heavily doubting if I want to continue this grind or transition into another career. My heart isn’t in it like it once was

Yes it's a Black Hawk Spotted some Blackhawks doing low level flights here in Western WA. 🌲
Was cruising around with my brother a few days ago and by chance, we caught this flight of 2 flying really low to the surface. Practicing for search and rescue? Low level flying? Maybe both?

Discussion Creating A Helicopters Lift Company
Hey everyone,
I’ve been thinking about eventually starting my own helicopter external lift company, focusing on HVAC installations, construction lifts, and other utility operations.
A little background: I’m an A&P mechanic, private pilot, and UH-60 Crew Chief back in the day. I have several years of helicopter maintenance and operational experience.
I’m curious about the startup costs, finding contracts, FAA Part 133 requirements, and what aircraft would be best for a small operation.
Has anyone here started or worked for a helicopter lift company? How realistic is it to start with one helicopter, and is there enough demand to make it profitable?
Any advice or experience would be appreciated!

Career/School Question Commercial or straight to ATP?
Hi y’all. I’m an FAA ATP airplane pilot with several type ratings. I also have private privileges and instrument rating in helicopters. 4300TT, 117 helicopter hours.
To my understanding, I qualify for the ATP-level rating at 200 helicopter hours among other requirements because I already have an ATP certificate. Doing the math, that’s only 83 more hours.
I’ve been on and off with commercial training for several years, and at this point, I haven’t touched a helicopter for about a year now. Just the lack to want to read up has been the main roadblock. Who knows, if I get back to helicopters, I’ll feel the urge to study again.
I don’t plan on making helicopters a career; I’d be lucky if I can even get a paid gig here and there.
With that being said, I still want a higher level privilege in helicopters (private privileges on my current certificate haunting me). Should I continue commercial training, or should I time build until I’m fairly close to 200 helicopter hours and hop onto ATP training? The place I go to is fairly cheap to rent so money isn’t an issue if I maybe do like 10-15 hours a month doing more relaxed cross countries.

Heli Identification? Helicopter ID
Any idea what helicopter this would be? Seen flying 30 miles south of Cleveland, OH. It did not show up on FlightRadar. At first I thought it could be Marine One but the coloring looks off (I know nothing about helicopters).

General Question Best company for a helicopter ride in Manhattan?
I'm traveling to NYC next month and would love to experience my very first helicopter ride there. I have seen some options such as Flynyon, Hummingbird, and Heliflights; are those options legit? Is there any other better option? I am considering budget, overall opinions, and, of course, safety; does anyone have any recommendations?
