Local News Impact Weather

Tomorrow we now have an “impact hour” in the morning assuming because it will be 45f at 7am. Last week we had an impact day because it was 85 in late October. Dear Chris the overuse of the term “impact” will soon lead to it being meaningless. Anyone agree but thoughts below.

Looking for Friends! (33M) Trying to make buddies as an adult

Howdy everyone! I’m honestly just a 33 year old married man that’s desperate to make buddies. I do tannery work as of right now and worked in coffee production for 7 years prior to this. My hobbies are weightlifting, gaming, running, cycling, foraging, drawing, hiking, swimming, basically any sports etc. I’d considering myself a very chill guy, I’m also 4/20 friendly. Very happily married my wife just doesn’t enjoy most of my hobbies so I’m looking for a buddy to occasionally pal around with; getting older just feels immensely lonely and I miss having buddies to talk about life with. Apologies if this isn’t allowed here or is desperate!

ISO Recommendations What are some good breakfast spots?

My partner and I wanted to get breakfast out today but realized that options seemed a little scarce. What are some of your favorite breakfast/brunch spots in the area? Open to all suggestions but we typically like a casual vibe that doesn’t require a reservation. Please drop your favorite spots (bonus for your favorite dishes too)!

Discussion Radio Stations - anybody listen to them?

So I used to listen to 104.9 in my car back when they branded themselves as ‘Hard Rock for MANLY MEN’ or whatever. (For real, I wish I had recorded some of their bumpers - they were something straight out of a GTA-style parody station.) They don’t seem to play music anymore, I think it’s just a sports commentary station now.

These days I have my default set to 98.5, but they’re very hit-or-miss in terms of whether I enjoy the music or not. On one hand, they introduced me to songs like Starlight by Cannons and Pretty Vicious by The Struts - nothing groundbreaking, but still good vibes and generally pleasant. But then there’s certain songs they repeat a lot that I just can’t stand. Particularly there’s this one song that goes something like ‘I don’t wanna be your man no more, I wanna make love to you -woman moaning- ‘ that just sets my teeth on edge.

EDIT: Okay so I found the song I hated! It’s Ensenada by Sublime. It turns out that the proper uncensored lyrics make more sense! It’s actually a proper breakup song, none of this ‘I wanna break up but still smash’ that made me want to climb the walls. The more you know!

Do you guys ever turn on the radio and listen? Got any songs or ads or stations you wanna either recommend or complain about?

Construction Former Earth Fare on Pelham

Does anyone know if the space formerly occupied by Earth Fare has a tenant? I’m exited for Super G Mart, but this seems like the next logical spot for those of us hoping for a proper Korean grocer.

Giving Recommendations Tahini in Downtown Greenville is a MUST TRY

I know this isn’t a food subreddit, but I have to make a post about how good Tahini Middle Eastern Eatery is. I’ve been with my wife a couple of times and we’ve tried most of the menu and it’s our favorite place downtown.

Everything is made fresh to order! When you order fries or falafel, they fry them fresh right then. The beef and chicken shawarma isn’t frozen “meat on a cone”, it’s fresh marinated meat stacked on a spit and cut right in front of you. Their falafel is the best I’ve EVER had and they have my favorite fries ever. The beef shawarma is a 10/10 as well. And the best part - the prices are great! You can get a sandwich, side, and a drink for $16 and it’s so much food. My wife and I ordered a falafel salad, a beef shawarma, a huge plate of za’atar fries, and a drink and it was all less than $40 including tip. One of my favorite things is that you can see them cooking and preparing everything in front of you.

I know people are gonna start talking about Pita House (which is fantastic) but Tahini needs some more love too. It’s the best restaurant downtown; it’s clean and comfortable inside, the owner is so friendly, everything is so fresh and homemade, and it’s actually affordable. I’m not affiliated with the restaurant at all, I’m just a huge fan of good middle eastern food.

ISO Recommendations Zoning Variation for Front yard fence

Has anyone successfully gotten a zoning variance for a higher than 3ft fence in their front yard in the City of Greenville? Any tips or tricks (specific companies that can help with this, etc.)?

There are 5-6 houses in my neighborhood that have either successfully done it or had their fence in before this zoning law came out, so I’m trying to figure out what will help my case. Thanks!

Discussion Does anyone remember that rough rock song that played before 93.3’s Rise Guys in the morning?

Probably 10 years ago or thereabouts I remember this ‘intro song’ that played right before the Rise Guys came on in the morning on 93.3 The Planet.

It sounds like someone is in a recording studio and is pissed off about something so the guitar just starts playing and he starts singing. Pretty sure he says ‘fuck’ at some point and it gets beeped over.

Pretty sure the first three words were “I am the…” something something something.

It always played like some kind of intro for the Rise Guys, back then at least.

ISO Recommendations What are some of the best buffets/AYCE in the Greenville area?

Hey everyone, don't judge too hard but one of my favorite past times is just pigging out while stoned off my ass at AYCE restaurants. Anyone recommend any good buffets/AYCE locations in the Greenville area? Price isn't too much of a concern, but I'm a bit bored of Chinese buffets. I've enjoyed Sushi Kingdom quite a bit but does anyone have any other recommendations? Thanks!

Greer D’town Greer Not Welcoming to Seniors

I apologize for being old and thinking I & my $$$ should feel welcome in a commercial area such as a restaurant/shopping district. 1st time visitor to downtown Greer for a weekday lunch about 1 pm w/ my sweetie. Parking is a bit confusing, as there is none. Street-side spaces all full, side streets full or restricted to cars with stickers. I drove around the area about 20 minutes with no luck. Finally saw signage pointing to a parking garage. Thought my worries were over. Nope, the very nice, free, garage is WAY out in left field from stores & eats. At 70 something, my giddy-up is fine for the first half mile or so but then Artie makes it tougher to hike, such as the uphill trek into town. Benches? Scarcer than hen’s teeth. There are rumors of a courtesy golf-cart shuttle in the area, and we later found it, parked and unmanned. Restaurant server said that’s not atypical. Posted phone numbers or Call buttons at key locations (like the parking garage …) to summon their help? No such luck. We had a great meal. Our server even tried ( no answer) to reach the shuttle by phone for our return leg to the garage. That was impressive and I boosted the tip to abt 40% for her giving a damn. It’s a very pretty place, nice variety of stores and eateries, but all to no avail if you’re mobility limited. Disappointed and headed elsewhere.

Giving Recommendations ‼️New Restaurant Alert ‼️🚨

I tried Kumin Kulture on Pelham Road tonight and was very impressed (in the Pelham 85 plaza-the one with the Chick-fil-A).
I got the Chicken Tikka Masala and the goat cheese naan, it was great! Great spices and good, moist chicken. I’m planning to go back this weekend to try some other menu items.
If you are in the east suburbs of Greenville, this is a great option.
I have no association with the restaurant; it’s really convenient for me to get to from my house which is why I’m interested in it succeeding and staying open - plus I did truly enjoy my meal.

ISO Recommendations Any reviews of the Polos at Hudson Corners apartments in Greer?

So my fellow Greenville peeps! Any reviews on the Polos at Hudson Corners apartment complex? I’ve heard horror stories about lack of pest control, trash not being collected on time and dumped everywhere and just sheer scummy office staff. What’s the tea?
