General Discussion Rory rejecting Logan’s proposal was the most important moment in this show and they ruined it
Rory rejecting Logan was the single most important thing that happened in this show because of what it symbolizes. Since the beginning, the show has been subtlety signaling what life Rory is going to fall into. The rich, glamorous and house wife life of Emily? Or the independent woman with struggles, Lorelai? By accepting Logan’s proposal she would’ve ultimately been giving up what she worked so hard to do. Be a journalist. Which requires flexibility and travel. She would’ve been settling. Bending what she wants for the better of the relationship. Trading that for probably becoming (like emily) a rich housewife who was deeply unsatisfied with where her life had turned up (her joy and satisfaction coming from assisting and making her husband happy). And by accepting the job to work on obama’s campaign, she is also rejecting lorelai’s life (of staying in one place, settling down and making a life there). She’s choosing her OWN PATH!!! Which was the entire point of the show! Not to be a cycle but for us to watch Rory choose neither Emily nor Lorelai. By refusing the proposal she chose RORY. This is what 7 seasons of the show had been building towards. But they ruined this premise by making her and Logan have the affair in a year in the life! What a beautiful ending with such symbolism wasted.
