Class Question Should I ask my professor to record her lectures?

My issue is essentially the title but I'll add more context. This is my stats professor's first year of ever teaching. She's clearly very passionate and knowledgable. However, she has an incredibly prominent speech impediment in addition to her strong accent. Normally I have no issue being able to understand professor's with strong accents and I don't like being that guy who blames/makes fun of how a person speaks, however her speech impediment makes it virtually impossible to understand what she is saying. I attend every lecture and take heavy notes but she's the type that explains a lot more in words. I genuinely believe that being able to go back and replay specific moments in a video would make it much easier to understand her lectures.

However, I don't want to be disrespectful and insulting since she is clearly trying her best at teaching and its what she's passionate about since she left her high paying research job to teach. What should I do and how should I approach asking her?

Class Question Aerospace Major Spring 2027 Recs

Hello all,

Currently deciding on my Spring 2027 schedule (junior year but delayed a semester) and was wondering if you had prof recs. Definetly take AE3030 (prof Sankar, Narayanamoorthy or Zhou, Yuxiang), COE3001 (prof Patil, Mayuresh or Jacobs, Laurence or
Yavari, Arash), AE2610 / 11 (only 1 choice), and then either AE3530 (prof Lu or Qing Li) or CS1371 or AE3330 (evan harrison). Is AE3530 or AE3330 harder? Is this a doable schedule / prof recs are greatly appreciated!

Class Question Distance Math prep over the summer

Hi all, I'm trying to find out if there are high school students who plan to take the distance math curriculum next year, and want to get a head-start by studying it over the summer. I was thinking about perhaps offering a low-price course on linear algebra and combinatorics over the summer, if there's enough interest in the idea.

If that sounds interesting, let me know. If enough people show interest then I'll let you know and start planning out exactly what I would offer.

Prospective Student how are my chances looking for tech regular transfer admission

hey! i’m hoping to transfer to tech for mechanical engineering in summer 2027 and wanted to get some opinions on my chances.

gpa: currently a 3.59, hoping to have around a 3.64 by the time i apply. ( i know it could be stronger but majority of my pre requisites are from pre nursing and i plan to address that in my essay )

coursework: doing well in calculus I and principles of chemistry. calculus II and physics I would be in progress when i apply for summer.

ecs: involved in a club at tech, working on a solidworks project within the club that should be in progress or completed by the time i apply, planning to spend time at tech’s aero maker space/invention lab and incorporate that experience into my essay, and planning to be a chemistry ta at gsu next semester.

essay: planning to write about my transition from pre-nursing back to engineering and what led me to pursue it.

i know engineering is competitive, but i’d love to hear what people think, especially anyone who has transferred to tech or knows about the process! if i don’t get in for summer, i’m also considering applying for fall. what else could i do to strengthen my application?

Class Question Does coding get better in later classes?

Im currently taking CS 1301 and man that calls really makes me despise coding. I feel like i understand whats going on but the tests crush me. I am currently a first year CompE major that wanted to concentrate on computing hardware (I always wanted to work on computer hardware), but now I am really considering switching to EE. Recently I have really enjoyed working with circuits and don't really enjoy the coding aspect of it. So I am asking if coding gets more enjoyable/changes in the more advanced classes (like 1331).

Prospective Student Fall 2027 transfer: Do spring grades affect admission?

I’m currently a freshman at Georgia State, planning to apply to Georgia Tech for Fall 2027, which would be the start of my sophomore year. I’m interested in majoring in International Affairs.

I’m a little confused about how spring semester grades factor into transfer admissions. My understanding is that regular transfer decisions may come out before spring grades have been submitted. Is that correct, or can spring grades also be considered in the initial admission decision?

If I’m accepted based on my grades through the fall semester, could my acceptance be rescinded if my spring grades drop? I’ve heard from people around me that you only need to earn C’s or higher in the spring, but is that actually true?

I expect my cumulative GPA to be around 3.8–3.9, and I’ll have approximately 36–37 credits by the end of spring. Would that put me in a competitive position for International Affairs?

I’d appreciate any insight, especially from people who have gone through the regular transfer process. Thanks!

Prospective Student English 1&2 requirement for transfer pathway

Hey guys,

My current institution awarded me credit for both English 1&2. I just saw that at GT they only reward yall for one English, regardless of your scores on both exams. So As a transfer student, Does GT honor both my credits for English or just one of them?

Hey guys,

I was thinking about taking 2 8-week courses in the spring to help me reach the 30 credit hour requirement for transfer pathway students. Is this allowed, or do all credits need to be earned in standard 16-week courses?

tldr: instate asian first gen @ gsmst (very competitive hs) with good gpa (top 20%) and good course rigor (GT Math Year One / GT CS 1331) applying CE but only like 5 main ecs w/ no crazy awards + i suck at writing so the essay i submitted was pretty bad/rushed (i regret pushing it off).

would the essay being bad ruin my chances even if i had good grades/rigor/etc. if not good chances for direct admit (applied EA1) how do my chances look like for transfer pathway (specifically first gen)

Other How can I prepare for engineering at GaTech?

I’m a freshman doing a study abroad program with GT, so I won’t be on campus until my sophomore year. In high school I never did robotics (my school didn’t offer it), and I barely know how to code. What can I do now to prepare myself for mechanical or electrical engineering?

Other CS Freshman question

As a CS freshman, is there a deadline by which you’re required to declare a thread concentration?

Does declaring a specific thread limit your ability to register for courses outside that concentration, or can you still take classes from other threads? Also, how long can you go without declaring a thread?

I read somewhere that you need to declare a thread concentration to register for CS 3000- or 4000-level courses. Is that true?

Prospective Student Has anyone added CmpE as a second degree after starting in a non-engineering major (Econ, Business, etc.)? And thoughts on GT vs. Ivies for Quant Research (Jane Street)

Hi everyone, I am a high school senior applying to GT and thinking about entering as an Econ major, then adding CmpE as a second undergraduate degree. I have been doing some research on the logistics at Tech. From what I have read, Catalog Regulation XIII requires good academic standing, approval from the additional major school, and 36 credit hours beyond the first degree. The ECE FAQ lists a 2.70 GPA, at least one semester enrolled, and CHEM 1310 or 1211K, CS 1301, ENGL 1101 or 1102, MATH 1551 or 1552, and PHYS 2211 for non-ECE students changing into CmpE. I want to know if I meet all of these stated requirements, do I get the additional major automatically, or is approval still subject to selective review or capacity limits?

However, I have also been looking into career goals, specifically breaking into quant research at firms like Jane Street, and recently came across discussions regarding how target school status, networking, and Ivy League pipelines play into elite finance and quant recruiting, compared to doing an undergrad at Tech and aiming for an Ivy League master's program later. Georgia Tech is highly regarded for the strong network and industry connections it brings, so I am considering whether I could start my undergrad at Tech, leverage those campus connections and career opportunities to see what doors open in quant, and then pursue a master's degree at an Ivy League school that firms like Jane Street actively recruit from if needed. Given all that, I would love to hear from anyone with experience or insights on a few questions. What was your starting major, and what GPA and grades did you have in the prerequisites? How long did approval take, and did ECE approve you on the first try? Did you apply in your spring semester of freshman year or later? How many total credits and semesters did it end up taking? Did AP or dual enrollment credit count toward the prerequisites? Was it worth it compared to a CS or computing minor or just taking CmpE electives?

Additionally, for targeting quant research specifically at places like Jane Street, how much of a disadvantage is starting at Georgia Tech, even with an Econ and CmpE combination, versus going to a target Ivy League school for undergrad? Does trying to transfer from Tech to an Ivy League school during undergrad make sense, or is it typically an uphill battle? Alternatively, how realistic or effective is the route of leveraging GT's network during undergrad and then moving into an Ivy League master's program to access active recruitment pipelines for high end quant roles, versus just going straight to an Ivy for undergrad if given the option? Any first hand experience, especially regarding recent recruiting trends in quant or navigating double degrees at GT, would be immensely helpful. Thanks!

Prospective Student Pre-med @ GT

I’m currently a Biology/pre-med student at GSU and have a conditional transfer pathway to Georgia Tech. I’ve been planning on transferring because I really like GT, want the research opportunities, and would be excited to earn my degree there.

Recently, though, one of my biology professors—who actually earned his PhD from Georgia Tech—strongly advised against going to GT for pre-med. His reasoning was basically that GT makes things unnecessarily difficult for pre-med students and that staying at GSU (or going to UGA) would be a safer route for maintaining a high GPA.

I know med schools care much more about GPA/MCAT than the prestige of the undergraduate school, so I’m not expecting GT’s name to compensate for a lower GPA. I’m mainly trying to figure out whether the academic difficulty is manageable enough that the research opportunities/environment are still worth it.

For current or former GT pre-meds:
1. Would you choose GT again if your primary goal was medical school?
2. How difficult has it been to maintain a competitive GPA?
3. Are there particular Biology/pre-med requirements that are significantly harder than they need to be?
4. Do you still have enough time for research, clinical work, volunteering, etc.?
5. Do you think GT prepared you particularly well for the MCAT, or is that benefit overstated?
