Discussion On the "Slop" Discourse

A lot of showcase posts these days are getting the "slop" label in the comments.

Sometimes it's AI. Sometimes it's UE. Sometimes it's mythology.

It's been previously mentioned that this community is not interested in how people make their games, which includes using AI or UE. And if it wasn't understood by default for developers, it probably deserves explicit mention: We are not interested in favoring genres either.

As developers, it is our duty to set the bar not just in quality, but also in feedback to fellow creators. Labelling things as "slop" without contributing anything constructive is not helping anyone.

If it's a low-effort AI post, instead of just saying "AI slop", it is more meaningful to mention that the game appears bland and generic.

If it's a UE asset-flip, mention that the gameplay is more important than the art for serious projects.

If it's a mythology game, please assess the game on its own merits instead of dismissing it outright.

To be clear, this is not an invitation to post low-quality content. But at the same time, writing rude comments is just as much against the community rules. So please, be mindful of what you post, because there is an actual human being on the other side of the screen.

Cheers.

About AI

Hey, quick update to the rules:

This subreddit is neither pro nor anti AI. That means, if your post uses AI, it will not be removed. However, quality controls still apply. If it's an extremely low effort post, AI or not, it will be removed.

And more often than not, bad quality posts will be downvoted anyway, so please keep that part in mind.

As for the vocal anti-AI folks here: it is a technology that is here to stay. If nothing else, programmers will use AI to generate code snippets from time to time. I cannot and will not police tool-use that aids game development. It is up to you if you want to use it in your games or not, but this community is not interested in telling people how to make their games.

EDIT: Criticism is accepted. But name calling and personal insults will be removed.

I am a solo developer and I made a free cricket game, with realistic commentary, gameplay and controls!

Hi everyone,

I am an indie developer who grew up watching and playing cricket, and it was my dream to build my own cricket game.

This week, I launched a browser-based cricket game named Super Slog. It is free, and has some super fun features:

  • Single, and multiplayer mode. Play with your friends. No account signup necessary. Works on both desktop and mobile!
  • Customised commentary based on game updates, angry bowlers, and different types of shots (sweeps, scoops and more)
  • Three types of camera views, various stadiums, day/night/evening settings and more!

If you like cricket, check out the game. I would really appreciate all your feedback, which will help me to continue improving and if you like it, would love it if you can spread the word even more. Play it here!

Title. The job is basically WFH and it's for Junior Unity Developer. I recently graduated (BCA) and I stay at home with my family so there's nothing to worry about my expenses. But I wanted to clarify if 5LPA is a good starter for my career, can I also get a job as a software engineer (C++, C#) in future?

Looking for Creative People to Team Up With on an Indie Story Game!

Hey everyone!

I'm an indie game developer working on a story-driven game in Unity, and I'm looking for creative people who would like to join me in bringing this project to life.

The idea behind the game is to combine Bollywood and anime to tell an original story through video games. Think Indian cinema, its iconic characters, romance, drama and emotions, combined with the creativity, visual style and storytelling of anime.

I'm looking to connect with people from different fields who are interested in game development and would like to contribute their skills, ideas and creativity to the project.

Some of the roles that could be helpful include:

Game Developers โ€” Unity, C#, gameplay programming, tools and systems.

2D Artists & Illustrators โ€” Character design, environments, backgrounds, props and concept art.

Animators โ€” Character animations, movement, action sequences and expressive character acting.

Musicians & Sound Designers โ€” Background music, themes, sound effects and audio that brings the game world to life.

Writers & Storytellers โ€” Story development, dialogue, characters, worldbuilding and narrative design.

Game Designers โ€” Gameplay mechanics, level design, combat systems, puzzles and player experience.

Other Creative Roles โ€” UI/UX designers, technical artists, VFX artists, voice actors, composers, testers or anyone with a skill that could contribute to game development.

You don't need to fit perfectly into one of these categories. If you have a skill, an interesting idea, or simply a passion for creating games, feel free to reach out.

I'm particularly interested in connecting with people from Chhattisgarh, India, but I'm open to collaborating with people from anywhere in India.

The goal is to bring together people with different skills, exchange ideas, experiment, and work towards creating something original that we're genuinely proud of.

If you're interested in anime, Bollywood, indie games, storytelling, music, art or game development in general, I'd love to hear from you!

Send me a DM on Discord if you'd like to connect.

Discord ID: aceblaze007

Tell me a little about yourself, what you do, what skills you can bring to the project, and share any portfolio or previous work if you have one.

And if you know someone who might be interested, feel free to share this post with them.

Let's bring some interesting ideas together and make a game! ๐ŸŽฎ

Has anyone used TestersCommunity.com for closed testing? Need some feedback.

Hey everyone!

Has anyone here used testerscommunity.com for Google Play closed testing?

I'm currently using their service and purchased the โ‚น999 plan for my app. I've also integrated Firebase Analytics to track user activity and engagement.

It's now Day 7 of testing, and I'm seeing only around 5 Daily Active Users (DAU) in Firebase Analytics.

I'm trying to understand whether this is normal or if other developers have experienced something similar.

For those who have used this service:

  • Did you get genuine and active testers?
  • How was your experience with user engagement?
  • Did your Firebase Analytics show consistent daily activity?
  • Would you recommend this service for meeting Google Play's closed-testing requirements?

I'd really appreciate it if anyone could share their honest experience. Thanks!

Help us bring an Indian story to life through the world of anime and video games! ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ

I'm an indie game developer working on a story-driven game in Unity, combining the drama, romance, emotions and iconic storytelling of Bollywood with the creativity and visual language of anime.

Our goal is to tell an original story through an interactive experience that brings together Indian cinema, anime-inspired visuals and video game storytelling.

We're looking for creative people who want to help shape the visual identity of this game and bring its characters and world to life.

ROLE 1: 2D GAME ARTIST

  • Environments, backgrounds and props

  • Helping translate story moments into compelling visuals

ROLE 2: 2D ANIMATOR

  • Idle, walk, run and action animations
  • Expressive character acting and emotional scenes
  • Bringing life and personality to our characters

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

We're looking for people who are creative, curious, passionate about storytelling, and excited to experiment with their own ideas.

You don't necessarily need experience at a big game studio. What matters most is your portfolio, creativity, willingness to collaborate, and desire to create something meaningful.

If you love anime, Bollywood, indie games, character design or animation, we'd love to see your work!

LOCATION: Preferably Chhattisgarh, India, but talented artists from anywhere in India are welcome.

WORK ARRANGEMENT: Open to discussing the right arrangement based on skills, availability and project requirements.

INTERESTED? GET IN TOUCH ON DISCORD!

Discord ID: aceblaze007

Send me a DM with:

  1. Your portfolio or art/animation samples
  2. A short introduction about yourself

I just released my silly little game on Google Play ๐Ÿ˜‚๐ŸŽฎ

Hey everyone!

I've just released Laugh Hit on Google Play! ๐ŸŽ‰

It's a goofy, casual game where you throw ridiculous stuff at a character's face and try to make the whole thing as funny as possible ๐Ÿ˜‚

I've been working on getting the game out there, and it's exciting (and a little nerve-racking) to finally share it with people.

If you're on Android, I'd really appreciate it if you gave it a try. I'm an indie developer, and honest feedback would mean a lot to me!

Your feedback helped me improve my game! Added bullet spread, tracers, and a boss fight.

Hey everyone!

First of all, thank you for the amazing responses and feedback on my last gameplay video! I got some really useful suggestions, and I've been working on improving the game based on them.

Since my last post, I've added bullet spread, bullet tracers, and a boss battle!

One thing I wanted to try with the boss was to avoid making it a traditional bullet sponge that just stands there soaking up damage. Instead, I wanted players to figure out ways to take it down rather than simply unloading magazines into it.

This is just the first boss, and I have plenty more ideas for different bosses and mechanics I'd love to experiment with.

One of the most fun parts of this update was finding free animations and mixing them together to get the results I wanted. It's surprisingly satisfying when you manage to combine different animations and make them work together to create something that fits your vision.

I'm developing this game solo as part of my indie project, Project Aftermidnight, and there's still a lot to improve. I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Hi everyone! I built BrushMix 3D a multi layer PBR painter and decal stamp tool for Unity.

Hi everyone!

I've just made a tool called BrushMix 3D, which lets you paint PBR materials on 3D models inside Unity and bake them into textures. It's now live on Fab!

Here's what you can do with it:

โ— Layer blending: mix up to 4 material layers with height-based blending

โ— Normal & detail stamps: easily add surface height and normal details (dents, domes, rivets, screws) with up to 4 stamp slots

โ— Stamp stitching: stamps follow your stroke path smoothly

โ— Edge wear & scratches: procedural wear along model edges

โ— Dirt & dust generator

โ— Alpha stencil / decal painting

โ— Bake clean, production-ready PBR textures (Albedo, Normal, Metallic & Smoothness) for URP and HDRP

If anyone wants to check out the details or give it a try, it's live on Fab

Thanks a lot for reading and checking it out!
