• Upvotes

Im trying to find some places around my house that I can drop a line in when I have time and to take my kid to on the weekends. Are there any neighborhood ponds that hold fish?

Hell of a fight, happy to have shaken his tail. Would have liked to harvest one today but hopefully this guy's strong fighting genes are passed on, and his body will feed the river system.

Complete noob into Salmon

Hi everyone we have just moved here with the family from the UK for work and would like to get into some salmon fishing in the tributes. We live in Seattle and would like to go with my son to nearby Creeks or Rivers within 1 hour driving distance on the weekends to try our luck, any suggestions where to go? We don't have the gear to go into the water.

Fishing near me

I built a site to see recently stocked fish near me using WDFW data. The original table was a pain to navigate, and I found a map view much more natural for seeing what’s stocked around me, so I built my own and added a few features I thought would be useful.
Would love to hear if you find it useful and any suggestions for improvements!

Hit by a sailboat while kayak fishing in MA10

Post image

Thanks for making sure I was ok after crashing into me. Oh wait no you didn't, you just scurried along and left. Wtf...

Edit: was hit from behind at a slight angle while drift fishing, didn't notice until I was actually hit. Flag was up. I was keeping my distance from the other boats that were fishing, but I guess I wasn't expecting to be run over from directly behind.

Edit2: yes, sailboat snuck up on me, yes I always look around me but I didn't look directly behind me. The sailboat had their motor on as well, but not sure that makes any difference to the situation, couldn't hear it over the waves. I'm not really sure what good an airhorn would have been, but I do carry a whistle regardless.

River Flow and Salmon Run Reports via GrokBot.

After about 15 minutes of total discussion with GrokBot, I now have twice weekly email reports of river flows and salmon returns for rivers I am interested in. Graphs are included but not shown here. I may work on formatting next, but workable so far. Here is an example:

River conditions as of Oct 17, 2026, about 7 PM Pacific. USGS data is provisional.

RIVER FLOWS

Carbon River (USGS 12094000, near Fairfax): 97 cfs, 51% of median for the date. 30-day average 120 cfs. Falling over the past week (-33%). No turbidity sensor.

Puyallup River above Orting (USGS 12093500): 221 cfs, 66% of median. 30-day average 248 cfs, down 18% from a month ago. Falling over the past week (-28%). No turbidity sensor.

White River at Buckley (USGS 12099200, closest active gauge to Enumclaw): 256 cfs, 48% of median. 30-day average 357 cfs, down 33% from a month ago. Falling over the past week (-24%). No active turbidity sensor.

Green River below Crisp Creek (USGS 12108800, above the SR-18 bridge): 346 cfs. 30-day average 290 cfs, up 50% from a month ago. Steady over the past week. Turbidity 4 NTU (King County gauge 40T). Raw readings spiked up to 470 NTU on Sep 18-21, Oct 2, and Oct 7.

Newaukum Creek (USGS 12108500): last valid reading was 12 cfs on Oct 13, 1:15 AM; the gauge hasn't reported since.

Fennel Creek: no active gauge.

HATCHERY RETURNS (WDFW Hatchery Adult Salmon Returns, data.wa.gov; fish handled = adults + jacks)

Soos Creek Hatchery (latest entry Oct 7, 10 days old)

Chinook: 13,411 season to date, +17% vs same date 2025, +50% vs 5-year average. Still strong, not tapering yet: 2,184 on 10/5, 1,501 on 10/6, 2,068 on 10/7.

Coho: 8,854 season to date vs 1,850 at this date last year. Building: 1,948 on 9/30, 2,028 on 10/2, 1,079 on 10/6, 2,603 on 10/7. Last year's big coho days didn't come until November.

Voights Creek Hatchery (latest entry Oct 13, 4 days old)

Chinook: 2,305 season to date, -6% vs 2025, -39% vs 5-year average. Tapering off: 472 on 9/21, 572 on 9/28, then 9-27 a day 9/30-10/4, 209 on 10/5, and 22 on 10/13.

Coho: 1,621 season to date vs 176 last year. Just starting: mostly single digits to ~50 a day, then 717 on 10/13.

Notes: Hatcheries only post on handling or spawning days, so gaps are normal. Early-season coho comparisons swing a lot because last year's coho came late.

Attached: 30-day river flow chart, daily hatchery counts (2026 vs 2025), and season-to-date hatchery totals.

Lake Sammamish’s parting gift for the season - a 19 inch kicker of a LMB!! (WASHINGTON STATE)

Arguably the lake that taught me the most this year, I bid thee farewell to Lake Sammamish for the season. The lake was kind enough to provide me this 19 inch kicker of a LMB as a departing gift! Caught her skipping my Neko rig under some deeper docks.

Solo vacation

Howdy fishwa, I'm looking for suggestions to take a mini vacation to just fish and decompress. I'm going to be bank/dock fishing. Catch and release. I'm happy to catch dinky bluegill all day long. Primarily throwing ultralight gear. Somewhere within about an hour of Vancouver would be awesome.

Caught 2 quality smallies today while catching 6 dink largies all on moving baits but mostly a jointed rapala. The rest was on a small swimbait with a round jig head. Nice to know that they’re chasing if you can find ‘em. Finish the year strong, everyone!

2027 Salmon time off itinerary

Hey everyone, thinking about being more strategic with my fishing time next year and thought it would be nice to start looking at locations and camp sites for some longer weekends to fish beaches.

What do you think and what would you do?

June: Not sure yet
July 1: Deception Pass
July 2: Fort Casey / Bush Point
July 3: Backpacking and fishing the coast of the Olympics
August 1: Point no Point
August 2: Somewhere around the San Juans / Port Townsend

Two places I’d really like to try but not sure when yet is the Columbia River, Stehekin/Lake Chelan

I’ll spend time fishing areas off I-5 in between these trips. Probably some docks etc.

Steelhead encounter

I have been learning a lot about salmon and steelhead fishing. Going to deep water like the Columbia, and shallow fast tributary water. Yesterday we were on a trib in a raft and hadn’t seen a fish all day. I was floating a bobber and 16 mm bead in a shallow fast moving stretch. Like 1 foot deep. My buddy was rowing I was sitting fishing. I went to take the bead out the water (I was letting it drift with the boat) all of a sudden, a massive steelhead aggressively appeared right next to me out of nowhere from upstream. I could have reached out and touched him. He looked at me and I looked at him for a second, and he was gone.

The more you fish the more you learn. That was a moment I’ll never forget. No fish that day but that moment made the trip.

Totem inlet fishing late October?

Wondering if I could catch any salmon in the salt late October in the totem inlet area? I generally jig for salmon in area 9 from my kayak, but am staying at a cabin in Arcadia over a weekend. Wondering if I should be targeting rivers or totem inlet during this time of year

No matter what I do, I can’t catch a fish

This whole year I’ve been fishing for carp, trout bass, and catfish and have been getting completely skunked. I’m at my local lake at least four days a week for multiple hours at a time in the morning and at night just trying to catch something. I’m using power eggs and worms for trout, corn for carp a Texas rig, spinner, baits, crank, baits and tapwater, frogs, etc. Maybe it’s because I’ve just been fishing the same lake over and over but I want to know how to break the skunk

Open charter recommendations

My brother is visiting for a few days and we'd like to go fishing. We don't have much equipment or any experience fishing here. In Vancouver and looking for something in the forge or along the coast here or OR. In CA we would show up at the landing before dawn and buy spots on sight and fish with a bunch of strangers, that's what I'm hoping for.

What am I doing wrong? Seattle shore fishing for coho

I've been throwing 2.5" - 3" chartreuse buzzbombs with hoochie skirts from piers and shore from West Seattle to Pier 70 and all the way up to Golden Gardens in the 2 hour window before and after high tide several times a week for the last 4 weeks and have hooked into exactly 0 coho in that time. I've seen the fish swim by and cast to them: nothing. I've blind cast for hours: nothing.

I'm starting to go insane on top of wearing my arms out doing the cast, sink, reel, lift routine. What am I doing wrong?
