I fish my public lakes and have my license but I see tons of other lakes or ponds in my area that are restricted only for residents. Curious if people still fish in their area for water not open to the public and what's the worst they do? Tell you to leave?

I just wanna have a good time fishing these ponds but being resident only is a rain on my parade.

Separating reel and rod after fishing

• Upvotes

Hi I saw a lot of anglers able to reel in all the lines from the rod and separated the reels into reel box and rod into it own sleeves, I have a swivel and it do not go through the first smallest hole of the rod, so just wondering do they cut away the swiv just to do that? Or there are somethung I've missed. Thank you

Wanna start fishing but buying gear: Are starter kits any good on Amazon, Walmart, BassPro, etc? Or should I just go second-hand and buy gear on Facebook?

Probably wanna start with bass fishing and do some bottom fishing in the ocean on a pier? Thoughts?

*edit thank you so much for all the responses!*

Process For Certification Of a Potential Record Breaking Catch

I am curious… how does one go about certifying a potential record breaking catch? Scenario: you’re out on the water and land, let’s say, very large large mouth bass. You weigh it on your 0-20lb scale and it pegs the needle at the max 20lbs. You do a quick google search for the current record for your state and confirm your state record is 23lbs. So what’s the play? I know there are certified scales at certain bait shops but how do you find these certified scale locations. What happens if your catch happens after they close?

Is it time to find a new lake

Have you all seen signs like this? In your experience, does it mean the lakes pretty much dead? Is my time better used elsewhere? I'm pretty much targeting catch and release in any type of species. But in december, this leg gets stocked with about twelve hundred trout, and from the looks of it, i'm guessing it all goes pretty fast.

Tired as **** of getting snagged

I've been fishing the river near me in Upstate NY. It's full of smallmouth and walleye, as well as the occasional northern pike.

Well, I'm tired as **** of getting snagged. Fish the pools, they say. The deep areas on the outside of curves. Cast by the bridge pilings, they say.

You know what's in every, and I am not exaggerating, every single one of those spots? A ****ing submerged tree. Seriously, I feel like I get snagged every 2-3 casts. And by snagged, I mean "goodbye lure" not "yeah, I got snagged a bit but then I walked around to behind the snag and pulled a little and it came loose". There's one cursed branch in there that's wearing like $40 worth of my spinners. I don't even understand how it's catching shit. I'm spending more time tying on new lures than actually fishing.

Anyway, is this just the reality of fishing in rivers? I'm getting pretty frustrated.

No longed doubting improved clinch knot

I used to have my doubts since palomar etc. are usually recommended online. But when the actual hook is giving up before the line, leader or improved clinch knot I am sold.

Lure is Daiwa Prorex Lazy Jerk 40g, line is Daiwa J-braid Expedition 0,28 mm.

I’ve been skunked for several weeks now. I’ve been really taking in as much knowledge from all the awesome anglers in this community and trying things out. Today I went on a quick lunch break trip to a local pond and caught this guy!

Kayak fishing

I’m going on the kayak for the first time this year - I absolutely hated kayak fishing last year but I’m going out with my micro 3ft pole and hopefully won’t hate it as much.

What are you throwing?
I’ve got a rattling jigged swim bait on right now.

Here’s a picture or 2 of my box that’s coming on the yak

I switched out all my trebles on my new spoons so I’m set!

It's been two weeks and I'm fully addicted

I picked up a Pflueger president spinning combo two weeks ago for a camping trip and apparently that's all it took for me to catch the bug. I had never caught a fish with lures in my life, and now I can't stop thinking about the next time I can get back out to the lake. I even bought a kayak on FB marketplace today, it's just too much fun!

I've been having a ton of success with a little Rapala original F03, rebel jointed minnow, and of course the fire tiger rooster tails.

Ultralight on a budget, some lures are brand name but were discounted and a few are from Japan and China.

Have caught some very nice 40+ centimetre mangrove jack and lost a few decent fish too.

Night time advice

Hey guys just wondering. Specifically small ponds, creeks or rivers, what lures do you guys use to catch bass largemouth or smallmouth and really any other fish at night time? Daytime it’s fine for me but I’ve noticed at night. I don’t have much luck especially now that it’s getting chilly however, after sunset is really the only chance I get to fish now. I can catch catfish and what not using live bait or whatever it may be but I wanna get some catches on Lures at night. Thanks
