[help needed] can’t start

Hello, I am having hard time getting this one started. I tried turning the far left black knob to PILOT and press onto it hoping I would hear/smell gas flowing through to ignite by pressing red button, but no luck. Does anyone have experience using a fireplace like this? Apparently the main gas is already on. I am unsure what all other button/switch/knob do. Appreciate your help in advance.

Fireplace insert issue

Hello, I bought the Montlake 230 from woodland direct. But, I am not getting much support after sale 🤦‍♂️ the damper lever doesn’t go all the way up, there doesn’t seem to any obstruction in the left panel, and frankly out of ideas. Wondering if someone any idea on what I can do to fix this.

Where do I put a wood burning stove

Post image

Hi all

Looking for some advice on where to put a wood burning stove in my house. I have two chimneys I can use, either in what is currently the living room or one in the centre of the house/ dining room.

Logically it would make sense to put it in the central one for better heat distribution but I would ideally like to have it in the living room space and think it would be odd if I swapped the living room to be in the middle. Very open to any thoughts! Thanks

Fireplace maintenance?

Hi Guys!

So I just moved into a new home and I have a couple questions regarding maintenance? What not do? And to make sure everything is safe.

I did turn it on and it works with gas. Looks like the logs are metal? Or some fake material. However under it looks like a drip pan with Sand in it? Also looks like dryer lint someone just put in there. I assume it’s something to maintain the flame?

Do replace this sand? Or is this just dirt? Or is this normal? Any tips on help to maintain this will be helpful. Sorry for stupid questions. But I have no idea. Thanks again!

I recently restored an old fireplace. Its tiles had been painted over and the opening boarded up. I am puzzled by the back of the fireplace. A google search turned nothing up.

The house is in England and dates from 1930s. What was 'The Gilda'?

Opinion on servicing fireplace.

To all the techs out there. Or anyone that has some insight. Looking for an opinion. I serviced an 864 gs2 today not lighting. First thing verify gas coming in. Check, replaced batteries. Check. Lights fan pilot sparks but not lighting. Check for continuity on the pilot side and it was good. I was stumped so I called the manufacturer. He said to replace the module and battery pack (didn’t make sense to me but did anyway ) and didn’t work. I replaced the solenoid on the pilot side. Still not lighting. At this point I’m getting frustrated. I disconnected the pilot tube from the valve and turned the pilot on to see if gas gets through the valve. And turns out it did. So with all that I ended up replacing the pilot. And it ended up working.
Should I have done something different? Is there a different route i should have taken instead? I’ve never encountered a blockage in the tubing to the point where you can’t even hear a hiss.
All in all lesson learned if this happens again

Gas fireplace troubleshoot

Post image

My gas fireplace shut off while it was running. The pilot light is now out as well. Looking if anyone can ID this unit so I can troubleshoot. Also, what would the on/off toggle switch be for? It’s currently in the off position. I have never switched it before and can only assume it was previously in the on position and maybe a safety feature switched it off?

incomplete combustion?

Post image

Long story short, I’ve never been super comfortable with having a gas fireplace in the 5 years I’ve lived here, but I’ve had the logs serviced every year for due diligence even when keeping the gas off otherwise. This year I decided to try and be more comfortable and decided to use it tonight after having it serviced last week. There is super thick soot on the logs after just 2 or so hours. The serviceman had said the logs were old, but that they would still be fine a few years. The placement is as the manual shows. Is this incomplete combustion? Should I go ahead and replace the logs? I’ve gone ahead and turned off the gas line in for now for peace of mind and I do have co and explosive gas detectors.

Our fireplace is completely nonfunctioning. I want to make it more aesthetically pleasing. Should I strip the paint/any ideas what material this looks like underneath? Or just repaint? Is this something I could tile over as an amateur? Any suggestions are welcome!

New to gas logs, leave pilot on or off?

Our fireplace allows to leave the pilot on or off. I assume Off is recommended to save money but are there any other major advantages/disadvantages?

Piping into firebox

Post image

So im plumbing a gas logset into my fireplace in my sunroom ,was a raised porch turned into 3 seasons room now converted into extra living space. Located in michigan so this room gets drafty in the winter now the doorwall is removed to the kitchen. The fireplace is on an exterior wall, I piped the rigid pipe along the edge of room and was planning on coming into the fire box but now im running into issues. I cant fit a rotary hammer underneath my outside hearth to drill a hole into the ash pit. I cant come into the side of the firebox either. I have the pipe just coming across and straight into to firebox not penetrating anything.

What are my options here?

Can I leave it like this? Do I go outside to come inside with a rigid stub into the firebox. Can I use 3/8 flex line and connect the flex line to my shut off valve outside of the firebox ?

Regency Gas Insert Part

I need a pilot assembly for Regency U41 In-NG. Of course Regency doesn't carry it, and have not found another source. Tried cleaning it. An experienced repair man tried also, but no luck. The part has stamped on it "ITT9432 PG9 A27". I got a "a universal redesigned" by Regency from Cozy Cabin, but it will not fit. I tell people I will burn coal in my fireplace before I purchase another Regency product. Any suggestions?

Jotul oslo F500 v1 Rebuild

We have a sandblasted, cerakoted ,Jotul V1 oslo F500 with a new inner bottom from Rocky mountain stove parts.

I will start applying some Rutland Furnace cement along them red lines. Nice and thick. So she oozes out when we compress. We got our selves a Bottom and inner bottom. use four M8 - 1.25 x 25mm hex head bolts to secure the four legs to the bottom. I will use clamps to apply adequate pressure to sandwich the two pieces while I torque the screws. is there a need to glob more cement on the bottom or just along that mating surface?

Question: Location of Gas Line

Post image
1 Upvotes

Of course, a silly question to ask AFTER the fact but I just installed a shelf bracket into the TV recess above my gas fireplace (see photo). After I installed it into what I believe were studs & with drywall anchors, I realized I should have asked myself about the possibility of hitting a gas line - is that possible?

The yellow arrow at the bottom left points to the only gas entry for the entire house. This gas would also supply the furnace and hot water, which is in the basement (below) and on the opposite side of the house.

Any insight is appreciated!

Any Other Fireplace Techs...

There is a millivolt system gas control valve that looks like a SIT 820, but when you press down on pilot on the gas control valve, it automatically sparks (it has a spark box).

Anyone know the part numbers of those two things? They're rare but I have definitely seen them.

Old house , new problem

Hi all, so we moved into this 80 years old but sort of renovated house, now trying to make it our own. We have this old heater and we are to replace it with modern electric fireplace, but the issue is fireplace is smaller and won’t be as big as the hole in the place. I do not have spare tiles, they are discontinued and I don’t know what to do with minimum cost ,I don’t know the black metal flashing that the electric guys are suggesting would look okay? I am attaching original photo and a ai generated for some hints. But what I would like your suggestions on, what else can we do without ripping off the old tiles etc .
