Is there any way to donate specifically for Firefox development?

I just downloaded Firefox cause a website won't work on edge. And wow the UI is near perfect if not perfect. Vertical tabs, tab groups, pin tabs, amazing pdf tools. Compact design. Wow it's great. Yeah the ads and shit but okay. I'll remove that.

Anyway, LanguageTool will become for Premium users only, with obvious artificial writing…

In my Firefox settings I have Autoplay blocked for audio and video, on some websites and particularly Reddit, it overrides my global off setting or bypasses it. And changes it to block audio only, which is most likely the default setting.

Hi as the title I've tried everything to turn autoplay off on Firefox for YouTube (mobile), but the videos continue to play when I lock my phone or swap to a different app. I don't have any extensions aside my one adblock, I've set it to block audio and video autoplay, I've tried using incognito, I've tried swapping to the desktop site via mobile, I've tried blocking it on the app however the app doesn't do this, just through Firefox. Please help, it's driving me insane. Thanks 🙏

Hey everyone!
I've recently noticed that Firefox is using a lot more RAM than it used to. Has anyone else experienced this with any of the latest versions?
I'm running Windows 11 with 16 GB of RAM. I usually visit the same websites and don't have that many tabs open, yet Firefox ends up using around 7–8 GB of RAM. On top of that, I also use Chrome for a few things that work better there, which takes up another 3 GB or so.
I used to have pretty much the same setup and browsing habits without running into this issue. I started noticing the increased memory usage with one of the recent Firefox updates, but I never got around to asking about it here until now.
Has anyone else noticed a similar increase in RAM usage recently? Is this expected, or could something be wrong with my setup?
Thanks!

Wondering if anyone has a solution:
Costco doesn't work in different ways - can't login, not being able to navigate to or browse departments are the problems I have seen the most.
For the Times and Post, the page stops loading before all the images have finished loading. Refreshing will cause a few more to appear and it takes several refreshes to get to the bottom of the home page.

Hey all — I've been building browser extensions on Chrome and just got both approved on Firefox Add-ons:
**Obsidian Citation Capture** — grabs academic paper metadata and saves it as literature notes directly into your Obsidian vault. Free tier, BYOK for AI features. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/obsidian-citation-capture/
**DevTools Fix Assistant** — adds a panel to DevTools that audits your page for form issues, accessibility problems, and runtime errors, with AI-suggested fixes. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/devtools-full-spectrum-asst/
Both are free to try. Would love feedback from Firefox users specifically — let me know if anything feels off compared to the Chrome versions.

Hi r/firefox! cmplog (Tеlеgram chаnnel) been porting Firefox's engine to Windows 10 Mobile, and it's now usable enough to share. It's called Gecko: a UWP browser built on Gecko from Firefox 155.0.1, running on our phones. Current version: 155.0.1.186.
Edge on W10M is stuck on EdgeHTML 15, and more and more sites simply don't work in it anymore. This is a modern engine, so most of them do again.
- Modern Gecko engine with a JavaScript JIT, plus WebAssembly - GPU rendering (WebRender over Direct3D 11) that redraws only what changed, so heavy sites like the YouTube home page load and scroll fast - Hardware H.264 decoding up to 1080p60, including streaming (Media Source Extensions: YouTube, VK Video). The browser picks H.264 on its own when a site also offers VP9 or AV1 - Video goes straight to the display's hardware overlay when nothing is drawn on top of it, so fullscreen 1080p60 YouTube plays smoothly in portrait and landscape - Frame rate synced to the display, fullscreen video with rotation - Phone clipboard both ways, downloads (Downloads\Gecko or a folder of your choice, "Save as", file uploads) - Hardware back button that does the expected thing: closes the keyboard, menus, dialogs, fullscreen, goes back in the tab, and only then leaves the app - Microphone for WebRTC sites, with the system permission prompt - Sign-in popups (Google, VK, etc.) open as a new tab and return to the site afterwards - Tabs, pinch zoom, readable text on desktop-only pages (font inflation like Firefox for Android) - Discord works after login (it's shown a desktop browser) - Memory management built around the 2 GB address space of a 32-bit process - Firefox telemetry is off
Low-end phones: a hacky GPU path for Direct3D feature level 9_3
Firefox's GPU renderer needs Direct3D 11 at feature level 10 or higher. Low-end phones like the Lumia 650 (Adreno 304) only go up to feature level 9_3, where it simply doesn't start. Normally that means falling back to rendering everything on the CPU, which on a Snapdragon 212 is painfully slow.
So there's a custom in-between path for these phones. Pages are drawn by Firefox's software renderer (SWGL), but the heavy part, shading the pixels, is moved to the GPU: the work goes through pixel shaders the 9_3 hardware can still run, rendered into tiles, and composited by Direct3D 11. Shaders the driver might refuse are probed during idle time, so a refusal doesn't surface in the middle of a frame. Hardware H.264 decoding works at 9_3 too.
This solution helps a lot compared to pure CPU rendering, but a Lumia 650 is still much slower than an Elite x3. The fast paths (direct GPU rendering, the video overlay) need feature level 10+.
1 GB phones: a page file can help
On phones with 1 GB of RAM the system unloads apps that use too much memory, and a browser on YouTube easily takes 400–600 MB. If the browser keeps getting closed on you, enabling a page file gives the system somewhere to put memory and makes that happen less often.
Windows 10 Mobile has no setting for it, but on an interop-unlocked phone it can be turned on in the registry (e.g. with Interop Tools):
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management
PagingFiles = "u:\pagefile 1024 1024"
(minimum and maximum size in MB), then reboot. This is a system tweak at your own risk; it costs internal storage space and adds wear to the flash.
What doesn't (yet)
- No DRM video (Netflix and the like): there are no DRM plugins for this platform - VP9/AV1 are software-only, so sites without H.264 won't play well above 360p - Camera in WebRTC hasn't been tested yet (only the microphone has), so no video calls for now - No printing, no Web Speech - No auto-update: new versions are installed as a new package over the old one (your data is kept) - Everything runs in a single process with no sandbox: UWP on the phone doesn't allow child processes - Extensions run on the same thread as pages, so uBlock Origin noticeably slows things down even when switched off from its own menu. Disable it in about:addons if you notice - Very heavy sites like Discord can bump into the address-space limit and stutter
Devices
- HP Elite x3: tested, works well - Lumia 650: tested, runs on the feature level 9_3 path above, but noticeably slow - Lumia 950 / 950 XL, Alcatel Idol 4S, Acer Jade Primo and other Snapdragon 808/810/820 phones with 3 GB RAM: should work reasonably well
Requirements
- Windows 10 Mobile 1703 (15063) or newer, ARM - Interop unlock (the package declares restricted capabilities: code generation for the JIT and broad file-system access for the profile) - The Gecko.cer certificate from the release installed on the phone - At least 1 GB RAM. On YouTube the browser uses 400–600 MB, so on 1 GB phones it will be slow (see the page file note above)

This is still a beta, so expect rough edges. Bug reports are very welcome. If something crashes, the browser keeps logs (quiet by default, verbose mode can be switched on in its settings), and they help a lot.

Why??? what's the point of burying such a useful feature behind so many menus adding friction?

Recently firefox automatically updated and now I can't open any of these (photo), like no matter how much I click on them, nothing happens, what's worse is that I can no longer right click on a tab to duplicate, etc. When I right click on tabs nothing happens, no options appear, nothing changes. How can I revert to a previous update and turn off auto update?

So without everything after the third slash.
Like if I searched red I'd like to get https://reddit.com instead of https://reddit.com/r/firefox

I am an obsessive tab opener. I stock up on stuff I need to do by opening seperate tabs and windows for 10s usually within 40s of tabs of websites, but I never use more than 1 at a time,
so is there any setting to limit how many tabs will be getting processed at max or something like that? My Firefox casually spikes up to a few gb of ram because of my untidy usage

I have been using Firefox as my default browser for like 3 years now, and I do not miss Google Chrome at all. I actually prefer Firefox. The only times that I have ever needed to go back to Chrome is for some websites that refuse to run some javascript execution like payment or something like that, on Firefox.
Overall though, Firefox is not missing anything that Chrome has, and it is more private and secure. Why did people flock to Chrome a decade ago?
r/firefox • u/Genceryx • 1d ago
"Only chrome and edge is allowed for security reasons" as we are told. Extensions are disabled for those browsers as well. Now I am tortured by ads without Ublock. Thinking of resigning. How stupid do they have to be to believe firefox is less secure than those bloat shite browsers? Unfbelievable.
Tiny edit (because people seem to be pissed): I wasn't serious about resigning ofcourse. I was just joking and exaggerating. I am just a bit frustrated.

I believe this started after a recent update.
Firefox, on a Samsung S26 Ultra if that matters, will refuse to properly display new tabs unless I refresh them several times.
The pages will stop loading, as if they're done, but will leave a blank gray/black screen with no visible content.
The amount of refreshes needed to properly display seems to vary. I've had as "little" as six and as high as twenty.
I've disabled all extensions, disabled my custom DNS, cleared cache, force-stopped Firefox, tried private browisng, and restarted my phone.
Malware scans come back clean.
All tested several times. Nothing helped even slightly.
This happens to new tabs, opened links, and searches.
Anyone else having similar problems? Anyone have any fixes?

I am using firefox 158.0 (aarch64) on Macbook Pro M4.
Why is mail.google giving this message after i have open and read my email?”
“This page is asking you to confirm that you want to leave- information you've entered may not be saved.”
Eventually it does go away but it often take several minutes and numerous reloads?

Firefox used to have add-ons for this (Print pages to PDF, Universal Print), but they died with the old add-on system, and I kept needing it. My job means printing several tabs of health insurance information at once, so I wrote a new one for modern Firefox.
Select the tabs, right-click → Print Selected Tabs. MultiTab Print puts them in one preview, in tab order. Download PDF uses Firefox's own PDF engine (so text stays selectable), and Open Print Dialog prints them all as one job.
A few Firefox-specific details: - It works with screen readers and accessibility tools running. An earlier version could make Firefox's memory balloon when the print dialog opened in that situation; that's fixed. - Thin borders print as clean lines instead of hairlines the print preview drops. - Everything stays local: no account, no data collection.

(If you also use Chrome or Edge, the same tool is on the Chrome Web Store: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/okonaodgfeifdkflmiadboahipigfmmm)
