I tried using liquid fuel instead of match fuel, and it seems like it saves a lot of trouble. What do you guys think
Of course the wood underneath is just for decoration🤭

Pictures are very helpful for users to give accurate advice and information. Fireplace specifics aren’t common knowledge to most people and it’s very typical for people to use incorrect terminology regarding what they have. If you don’t know the difference between gas logs, a gas insert, and a gas fireplace, you really should post a picture to make sure you’re given good advice about what you can do with your fireplace.

Hi everyone!
When our wood stove starts burning really well, smoke or vapor starts coming from the stove into the room.
The chimney has been completely cleaned, but according to the previous owners, the stove hasn't been used for about 8 years.
The smoke doesn't smell, but it lingers in the room. I'm wondering if it could be water vapor rather than actual smoke.
Smoke is also coming out of the chimney outside, and there was plenty of wind when we lit the fire.
Has anyone experienced this before? Could it be dangerous, and what might be causing it?

Hi all,
We just moved into a new house and found the fireplace is completely open — no doors or curtain. I purchased OEM bifold glass doors and a new mesh curtain but when I installed one of the doors there was an awkward gap around it like it’s missing a frame or something, and there’s nothing for the curtain to hang from. Looks like this model is discontinued so I’m at a loss for what to do next. I don’t even know what piece(s) might be missing.
FYI Just had a full inspection and besides the missing doors everything is safe and in working order.
Make: Heatilator
Model: E39

My wife and I just bought a house that has this…interesting fireplace border. We are not into it at all. We have plans to do a pretty big remodel within five and maybe within three years where we would totally replace this fireplace with something new. In the meantime, we would like to try to make this fireplace tolerable because we plan on using the fireplace and being in the room. We don’t want to invest a ton in something that will only be there a few years. We asked ChatGPT to see what it would look like painted and we weren’t feeling that. Is there any sort of other wood paneling that wouldn’t look as bad? Also not feeling shiplap.

When I bought my current (soon to be sold) house, I called a company to check the fireplace. A nice man came out, stuck a camera up the flue, pointed to some cracks and told me it was clear there had been a chimney fire here, and if I wanted to burn in the fireplace, I should definitely have it relined, or else I would probably burn down my new house and kill my family.
I’m not street smart, but something told me this was bullshit, and so I called a second chimney sweep. Dude had all the subtle communication of a drill sergeant, but he told me the chimney needed cleaned but not relined. And that there had never been a chimney fire. He also told me that most of these people work on commission and it’s in their best interest to sell me the most expensive option. Second guy turned out to be right. I burned regularly in that fireplace for ten years and never burned my house down or killed my family.
We’re going to buy a new house soon, and the only requirement from me is that it has a wood-burning fireplace. We’re relocating, so I can’t use the chimney sweep I’ve used here. How can I find an honest chimney sweep in the new area? Are records kept somewhere of house fires? How do I know I’m buying a fireplace I can use safely?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Picture of my awesome dog, though sadly not in front of the fireplace.

Just bought my first home, noticed these cracks and small open seam in the corner. Have no clue if this is ok or a "stop everything, do not use, must repair". Just trying to not burn my house down, thanks for any input

Gazco fireplace has been turned off over the summer (pilot light has been off).
Getting chillier now so attempting to light but won't work.
Have changed batteries in the remote and the wall.
Pilot light kicks on but won't light main burner..
After a specific time the pilot light switches off again.
I've used sandpaper and some wire wool to polish up the thermocoupler.. no luck.
Any ideas what issue could be?

I have this Ember Hearth electric fireplace that I bought from Costco 10 years ago. It's actually really good and works well, but they stopped supporting the app last year and now it can only be controlled with the panel on the fireplace itself, or the remote that came with it but has very limited functionality. Has anyone found a universal iPhone app that control this fireplace via bluetooth?

I tore out the faux stone on either side of this fireplace in order to build some built-in bookshelves. I want to run a tube from behind the TV to the side of the fireplace to run HDMI cables though for gaming consoles. Is it possible that this natural gas fireplace would create enough heat inside of this area that it would warp grey PVC over time? Would metal be a safer option?

Hoping people can help! I'm trying to use this for the first time and I don't know how to turn it on.
Would I use the yellow valve? Then the dial?
I have a remote control and it works but there's no pilot light on

Hello... I was shown how to light the pilot light on my gas log fire last Fall... the technician used a long matchstick to do it manually. He showed me how, but I really should have filmed him because I can't remember exactly where he held the matchstick. I also failed to snap a pic of where the little flame burns before turning it off last Spring, though I know it is somewhere on the left.
I'm hoping one of you good people can assist me in locating it! (pic below) I moved into the house last Summer and the previous owner left no user guide for the fire).

Just recently purchased a home and the fireplace has insulation inside, which I’ve never seen before. As part of the closing process we asked for it to be checked out by a chimney sweep and inspected, but insulation inside seems weird to me. Is this safe?

Looking at getting an insert for are fireplace. Heating prices are one factor. Unfortunately can't seem to justify the cost. Currently heat with a heat pump and backup oil in Connecticut. Average about 400 a month between the two for a 1200 sqft home. The fireplace is in the lower level at one end of the home, bedrooms upstairs in the opposite end. Current cord wood prices 300 per. Cost of new insurance install 6500. I can buy a lot of oil and kwh for 6 grand. Is my math, mathing?

Bought this house last year and have not tried to use the fireplace at all since it looked to be natural gas.
I was going to rip out the gas components to convert it but after taking out the fake logs it looks like what is here might just be a log lighter and I do not need to remove it at all?
Does that seem right based on my pictures or should I still remove this and install a new log lighter since the gas is already ran to it.

Hi everyone, I’m planning to install an electric fireplace for my living room and would love your advice. Can you send me some electric fireplaces you all have and love please! I am nauseated trying to search and I feel I have decision paralysis at this point!
I’m looking for something that has a very realistic flame effect (it will be placed under a 55” TV with built-in arches on both sides).
Do you have any recommendations? Also, which option/brand would you suggest in terms of long-term reliability?
Thank you in advance.

My husband and I just moved into our new builder grade home and I hate the fireplace! It is currently dark gray tile and I hate it. I like a lighter/warmer look. We don’t want to spend a ton of money so we are thinking of painting the tiles or using peel and stick. Any suggestions on what we could do that won’t break the bank are appreciated!!

I'm having stone installed on top of a brick hearth (extension), as well as the mantel. Is there a standard amount of overhang? How many inches for each?
