POLITICS Mark Ruffalo: "It’s beyond sad. It’s beyond disappointing; at this point, it’s disqualifying for anyone with ambitions for higher office as a Democrat, or a Republican, for that matter, to be fighting to keep billionaires from being taxed while kids don’t have health insurance...
and the cost of living goes sky-high.
These billionaires are also the ones hellbent on replacing entire workforces with the AI they are developing with our tax dollars (watch the “Musk” doc). We are also living through the largest wealth gap in modern history. At this point, the only way to balance out the economic forces that have bought our politicians and keep rigging the game against working people is through taxes.
Let’s hope Gavin gets some sense and walks this back. It’s crazy that this is what he chooses to spend his political capital, and part of his legacy, doing. He vetoed the bill that would have put a “kill switch” on AI for our protection. He vetoed a bill that would have gotten forever chemicals out of cookware. Time and time again, he goes with corporate interests over the well-being of the people, even after his own bipartisan legislature votes for something.
And here we go again.
Gavin, we aren’t looking for the Democratic version of Trump. That was a good goof. Please try something else. It’s tired.
The people need a champion, man. A real, bona fide champion who isn’t just tough in tweets or press conferences, but tough when it comes to the real imbalances people are struggling with every day: billionaires vs. people and the planet.

As someone who has worked in the environmental effects of PFAS (hence my username), he has done more to uncover and promote action against big companies that have abused the system. Honestly wish he would run for office.

Gavin Newsom is horrible, and is for sale, and is hopefully disqualifying himself to people from ever becoming the Democratic nominee for President

u/Suziblu22 6h ago
Yes, he lost me when he let PG&E get away with literal murder. I hope everyone just reads the pros and cons of these ballot measures and sees the trickery. I voted no on 42. Gavin is a greedy mfer and I am no longer a stan.

Nancy Pelosi's transphobic nephew failed up all the way to being governor, and now he's disappointing people.

u/BlondeBorednBaked 12h ago
Is he really her nephew

I was not aware he was transphobic. Ugh. Just add it to the pile of disappointments.

It’s shocking how much support he has in California, especially from boomers. He also is responsible for pressuring the California AG to settle the Paramount/WB deal so the deal could proceed
Unfortunately, Bacerra will be even worse without any of the charm

Just wanted to add that he's currently giving the shaft to State Workers as well. We're striking Wednesday, but it's hardly getting any notice
15
u/igodutchoven 12h ago
Gavin Newsom is not working people friendly; he's a union buster, and he is NOT what the people need. As a California State Worker, he's done nothing to inspire loyalty of his people, let alone the rest of the country. Like Trump, Greasy Gavin is up for sale for the highest bidders and he will spread those cheeks with absolute glee and greed.

Hold the line! Downtown Sacramento should not be expected to thrive solely on the backs of state workers. It’s the responsibility of the city of Sacramento to revive downtown. Not you guys.

I don't want Newsome anywhere near the presidency, but I also worry the DNC has already made that choice for us.

u/pamiskindofabitch 11h ago
Don’t give in! It’s early. The party coalesces around people like Haley Stevens and Andrew Cuomo, to the point that they use racist, Islamophobic and MAGA-adjacent rhetoric to try to tank more progressive candidates. Guess what? That shit isn’t working.
Graham Platner had one of the most problematic campaigns a person running on the left could have, and it took a credible allegation of rape—and a metaphorical crowbar—to finally pry his supporters away (which is grim, honestly).
We don’t automatically have to get stuck in a 2016 or 2020 scenario again.

Agree, there’s still lots of time and centrists are clearly worried they’re losing ground. It’s far from guaranteed we’ll end up with a loser candidate like Newsom

I'm waiting for the first serious politician to come in out and flat out say, "capitalists are your enemy and a threat to your way of life."

I used to kinda like him. But the way he's willing to throw trans folks under the bus in order to "secure moderate votes" really soured me on him.
Seeing all the bad things about him has really soured me on the man overall. Be better, Newsome. Don't be noisome.

I hope Newsom doesn’t walk this back because I don’t want him to have any support to run for president
6
u/JakeCheap 12h ago
I cannot stand that that the establishment is going to shove Newsom down our throats in 2028. He’s not remotely progressive and hope he gets shunned out of being in the limelight soon.
6
u/forcedintothis- 12h ago
Hopefully this is the nail in the coffin for Newsom becoming the democratic presidential candidate in 2028. He’s not like us.

A billionaire against taxing billionaires who despite his supposed political leanings constantly sides with billionairs over the millions of people it's his job to represent and provide the general welfare for? Why would a billionaire do this?

So sick of slimy Newsom!!! An enemy of the people in my opinion. Thank goodness for Mark Ruffalo calling him out, I hope people are listening.

I’d vote for Mark Ruffalo. He might lot be an experienced politician, but he seems like one of the most honest and balanced people with a following of his size. I’d trust him to surround himself with the right people to make good decisions.

California has unfortunately become like an Ouroborous.
The devout dedication to always voting blue has led to pseudo republicans running blue and pulling bullshit like this.
Not that democrats really have a great track record right now but like do you want a Bigfoot or a Godzilla I guess.

While he’s not wrong, the fact of the matter is that it’s either gonna be Newsom or Kamala who gets the nomination and none of us can afford to be salty about it. If it’s him, VOTE FOR HIM.
7
u/LadyPennyLane_1795 11h ago
Or make sure people vote in the primaries and canvas for DSA candidates. Mamdani beat Cuomo who had the backing of our usual corpo dems
0
u/jmpinstl 8h ago
bro you’re not gonna get the whole country to do this, be realistic
2
u/LadyPennyLane_1795 6h ago
Bro, I’m just saying we should be demanding better. New York City demanded better, and they got Mamdani.
0
u/jmpinstl 2h ago
The rest of the country is not New York City. The fact of the matter is that Mamdani, while great, is likely an anomaly.
Politics, especially at the national level, is about money. Newsom and Harris have everyone beat there. The support doesn’t matter. It’s about the money.

Why are you telling people to settle for trash in 2026? There is plenty of time to demand better from the Democratic Party

Newsom is nothing more than another elite-donor Democrat in the pocket of the billionaire class.
DSA today, DSA tomorrow and DSA forever.
