she's genuinely unhinged when it comes to the 2 of them. Billie never kissed the ring and is insanely popular with the awards to boost which is a cardinal sin. Plus she's not afraid to call out practices we all know taylor implemented to game the system.
and the whole thing with rodrigo and taylor in general is just crazy to the point I kinda thought she might've been able to bury olivia. only for her to stop talking about taylor, do her own thing, and manage to widen the hell out of her base and get more and more critical acclaim. You just know it kills her that the industry fawns over billie and olivia, so the only win she can have is to deploy her cult to buy 30 variants for each release and stream her singles like zombies
I won't lie and say that I was a fan of rodrigo until this new album where she really blew me away (didnt give her a shot before tbf, thought she wasn't for me, was very wrong) so I can't really speak on her much but the fact that she seemingly tripled down on saying her influences and just leaves out taylor after the credits fiasco did always make me happy
there are people gen z is getting introduced to bcs of olivia rodrigo and taylor missed out on that, while olivia is picking up cookie points by fangirling. If someone told me shirley manson would be going around singing praises about a mainstream pop girlie I'd laugh. Rodrigo now has the support of some of my rock/punk faves which is kinda insane to me. Olivia is indeed the only true heir to the Taylor Swift throne, and it was inevitable that someone like her would surface one day, the only issue Taylor has with it is that it happened too soon - Taylor was just 31 when Olivia came onto the scene with massive sales, and that bugged her because she wanted to be the undisputed queen until at least age 40
I think Charlie is more of an aesthetic/social threat to her. She couldn’t get the “cool” bad guy, Matty Healy, but Charlie did by marrying his band mate and is a successful pop artist
Charlie is actually talented and creative is the thing. TS has plateaued for the past decade. Also Charlie works with innovative producers, Jack Antonoff might as well be AI he's so uninspired and repetitive.

Billie and Olivia managed to achieve shit taylor couldn't dream off when they were very young. She doesn't really have a big reach with gen z and younger, while billie and olivia do. She's ageing out and is terrified of it, and though she has a huge base, it's pretty uniform. It must suck for her knowing the 2 gen z girls are able to jump around generations and genres easily. It took almost 15 yrs for her to get glasto traction, billie and olivia had like 2 albums before they were headliners...
My best guess with keeping Gracie around is because of her father. We know Taylor has directorial aspirations, so... Best to keep those connections, I'm guessing.
I'd argue yes she used to a couple of years back. then she fully succumbed to capitalism and chose to become the temu of the music industry. Cheap, fast, inconsistent, scammy, sometimes filled with nice surprises but overall highly unethical.
She never has. The army of great songwriters around her cared about quality and were good enough to clean up the crap she handed them. All those great songwriters are now gone, and we're seeing her true "talent" on display.

I believe this too!!!! Maybe the first re-record album’s songs were (at best), but after that, I definitely think she just wrote the songs to fit that era
Why would you cry yourself to sleep just because someone else is successful? Most happy people want other people to be happy. Artists who are secure in what they accomplished don’t see someone else’s success as taking away from theirs.
I understand those private moments of feeling upset, or even resentful, when you’re on the bottom trying to get something and someone else gets it instead, but she already has everything. What’s the point of being as successful as she is if she can’t comfortably enjoy her record-setting accomplishments and cemented legacy?
Except with Olivia it's been all out and she's never said she's happy for her after their falling out. Think they were friendly initially but that last like 2 mins before Taylor treated to sue her.
I'm pretty normal about Taylor Swift and I'm generally very detached from this kind of news story but I have to admit I was slightly miffed when she successfully kept Hit Me Hard And Soft from getting #1 the entire time.
Especially since HMHAS is one if my favourite albums of all time and TTPD is Taylor's now second worst album, by some margin. I know the Swifties were pretty effective in turning the narrative around on TTPD but I'm sticking to my guns, it was 2 hours of samey, dull music and at best uninteresting songwriting. Sucked the first time and still sucks now.
I mean, I don't care about Taylor Swift in the slightest, but "Taylor Swift" isn't a person anymore, it's a corporation.

I assume the amount of praise for Olivia’s latest album is especially frustrating for Taylor when her fans place her on a pedestal and think she’s the songwriter of the generation.

I have a friend who has been dismissing any criticism of her with, "I wish people would come for men the way they come for her" for literally a decade now. She will rage about anything and everything, but if you bring up anything new T Swift has done she just rolls her eyes and repeats that line.
And it's like, sure, that was a valid response to criticism of her 10 years ago. But now? NOW? I think we can criticize men AND Taylor Swift at this point.

I think T’s whole invasive marketing schema is anti-women if you apply any sliver of thought to it at all. Category 5 white woman moments on the radio 24/7 reduces play time for any smaller artists.
And frankly, I’d argue that not criticizing Taylor and, by extension, women when it’s valid and deserved is anti-feminist. She’s to be exempt from that because she’s a woman? Doesn’t that sound a bit sexist?
But also, there aren’t many, if any, men at her level of success in pop. Maybe Harry styles and ed Sheeran? So there’s also just less opportunity to criticize men as much as her. But you better believe when I get the chance to criticize men, I’m criticizing them just as much as Taylor swift!

The Beatles are actually the worst example of this. During their time it was common practice to include singles in albums to bump up sales, especially if the single was successful - people might buy the album for that.
But the Beatles considered it ripping off the consumer to esentially sell tthem the same thing twice, so the singles never ended up on albums. Hey Jude, I Want To Hold Your Hand and many other hit singles aren't on any Beatles Albums.

I agree. This felt like one of those genuine remixes where both artists just wanted to do a fun collab with genuine intent, and the result was something very enjoyable.

Yeah last album I enjoyed was Midnights! I thought TTPD was too wordy and overstuffed. Showgirl then completely lost me. When it first started happening I didn't really believe someone would be so petulant but she's done it way too many times for it to be anything that can be explained innocently.
It's a shame because I really like (some of) her music but this just completely sours it for me among other things. It's pathetic and childish that she can't stand for someone else to have the limelight for more than 5 minutes.

Taylor and I are around the same age and I would be mortified to be beefing with a 23 year old at my big grown age. Someone who has been in the industry as long as she has should be uplifting younger artists, not taking every opportunity she can to step on their achievements.

Casual conspiracy theory: there was never an actual legal need for Taylor to re-release so many songs as "Taylor's Version", she just did it because she wanted to flood the market.
I would say female artists should flip the script & make variants every time she releases new music to see how it feels but they are better than that & not greedy as Taylor.
