Since it was brought to my attention of instances of it being used in image posts here and there, there is now a policy of banning the use of generative ai content. Any future content will be removed with one warning, and repeat action will be followed with a ban. If there's any questions, please refer them to me. Thank you
edit: phrasing clarity

Hey there, I've noticed that the occasional link gets filtered through as spam. If you're having issues to with your comments being filtered by reddit, please send me a modmail so I can approve it.
I'd also like to compile a list of commonly ordered replacement parts and other misc stuff so I can put stuff either on the sidebar, as a sticky, or take time to set up the wiki on here for it

You control two loving penguins with the mirror movement to reach and unlock the locked heart, while shooting the enemies like spiders. This gameplay is quite unique back in the 80s. And, you can hear to Beethoven's “Ode to Joy” upon unlocking the heart.

The trick: get both penguins to cross each other 16 times in 1-3 second intervals to give birth to a baby penguin.

Hey all, been working on a few things on my Twin Famicom and noted the bottom of the AV/power board looks like this. The unit works totally fine (outputting via composite at present to my RetroTink 4K), but I’m not loving how the bottom of this board looks. Any recommendations for cleaning this? Thanks!

As the title suggests, any mods available for a FamicomBox hotel system? I just purchased one, it does work great but the AV is pretty meh, I wish it had RGB. I wonder if a RGB Lava kit would work in one of them, I have one in my AV famicom and it's great. Also, any way to get it modded to also play NES games? I did see the FamicomBox + mod online but it doesn't seem to be shared or sold anywhere as an add on mod.

Hi everyone! I’ve released an English fan translation of Maison Ikkoku for the Famicom/NES.
Released by Bothtec in 1988, it’s a graphical adventure based on Rumiko Takahashi’s manga. You play as Yusaku Godai, exploring Ikkoku-kan and the surrounding area, talking to the residents, collecting items and solving puzzles.
The patch includes:
- English dialogue, narration, commands, item names and locations.
- An English title logo and localised station sign.
- Scrolling support for long English menu names.
- English word wrapping and multi-page dialogue.
- Text pacing, music-update and opening-scene graphics fixes.
All currently identified text is translated. A complete manual playthrough hasn’t been finished, so bug reports and translation feedback are welcome.
Download and instructions:
https://github.com/JamesClark1989/game_translations/tree/main/maison-ikkoku-nes
Romhacking.net page:
https://www.romhacking.net/translations/7850/
You’ll need your own matching Japanese ROM to apply the BPS patch. No ROM is included. If updating from an earlier build, start fresh rather than loading an old save state.
Hope some Maison Ikkoku fans enjoy giving this one a try!

I got the video to show up but it’s black and white with no sound. People are saying to use vcrs but I found nothing that shows that it works. Not with a
pal tv and pal vcr anyways.
In the second image, I connected it to my dvd player where I could get colour with the rgb scart output, but it brought a ton of noise into the image as I think the rf unit on it is faulty. There still wouldn’t be any sound coming from it either way.

Hi all first time posting.
I’ve been sitting on this for the last few years but I figured it’s time for me to learn more about this mystery machine. I know of the normal disk system, but I was wondering if anyone has seen a disk system 2? I got this from a former Taiwanese Famicom store owner who used to sell this stuff in the 80s (this is where I got the pretty rare official Nintendo Taiwanese release famicom on the top, my pride and joy 😁😁) but I’ve never found any information on this disk system 2 that I also got.
It’s got 2 LED indicators off to the side, and from my understanding you plug the one on the bottom to the one on the top, and a blank disk in 2 and the master disk in the normal one, and it would copy it. I tried it once before but it seems like it’s very much out of tune.
The old paper label on the bottom says “blank disk” in Chinese and there is an extra circuit board floating around inside (I’ll add a photo if there’s interest).
But yeah any information would help!

I finally was able to get one of these in decent condition for an okay price. Very cool piece from the era and a great way to store your disks! I don’t know why I thought it would be bigger.

Hi all, quick question about the twin Famicom. Pictured is my system, if that helps. Recently I noticed that my player One controller works, but doesn't seem to read diagonal inputs well at all. In any direction. I picked this up a few years ago on ebay, and it was claimed to have been fully refurbished/service with a new belt etc, and I believe that because it was in such good condition. I haven't had any issues with it, and the only reason that I'm noticing this issue now, is because I don't play a lot of games that use diagonal inputs. Usually just Mega Man 2 on this thing if anything. But now I'm noticing that also up on the d-pad I have to push kind of hard.
I've never had any major issues with Nintendo controllers on these old systems, but now I'm wondering what the best way to go about fixing it would be. Should I open it up and just try to find a replacement controller board to put inside of it, or is there something that I can do with the actual controller boards to fix the issue? Ive already taken the xontorller apart and cleaned the contacts with 98 percent alc, and no change.

Most people know Maniac Mansion from the PC or the 1990 NES cartridge. This isn't that game.
In 1988, two years before the American NES release, Jaleco made its own Maniac Mansion for the Famicom. It was built in Japan, for Japan only, and it doesn't run on SCUMM. The art was redrawn and nothing scrolls: every room is one screen. This cartridge was never released in the US or anywhere outside Japan. When Lucasfilm brought Maniac Mansion to the NES in America, they remade it from scratch instead of localizing this one.
So for 38 years this version only existed in Japanese. Someone translated the verb panel back in 2008, and that was the furthest anyone got. Now the whole game is in English: title, intro, every line of dialogue, menus, names and the ending.
- Battery save. The Japanese cartridge has no battery, and the only way to keep your progress was a 104-character password. Now pressing SELECT also saves the game, and CONTINUE on the team screen puts you right back where you were. Passwords still work too. (The patched game runs on an MMC1 SUROM board, the same as Dragon Warrior IV, so use an emulator or flash cart that supports it.)
- A reorganized command panel. The 12 verbs now sit in pairs, one above the other: OPEN/CLOSE, PUSH/PULL, TURN ON/TURN OFF.
- The title screen reads JAPAN VERSION 1988, so you always know which Maniac Mansion you're playing.
- If all three kids die, the game now goes to the GAME OVER screen. In the original it just sat there until you pressed RESET.
- People in the house no longer take items they have no use for. In the original they accepted almost anything, and the item was gone for good. Now they refuse and your kid keeps it.
- A stray red symbol no longer shows up in the corner of the password screens.
- What Nintendo of America made LucasArts cut in 1990 is still here: the nude statue in the hall, the nude calendar, the pin-up mummy poster.
- Its own Game Over screen, where the kids turn into angels.
- Puzzles reworked for Japan: a 100-yen coin, a publisher with a Tokyo address, a Japanese mailbox outside the front door.
Full longplay of one of the good endings (Bernard calls the Meteor Police, Dr. Fred snaps out of it and stops the self-destruct):
Download the patch (English v1.1):

Apply it to the Japanese cartridge dump: Maniac Mansion (Japan).nes, MD5 5835600abb0a8de98d905da545350160. Patch only, we never distribute ROMs. This is a fan translation, not connected to Lucasfilm, LucasArts, Jaleco or Nintendo.

It’s definitely not the cartridge slot (this Famicom has 15 cartridge slots!) It was fine last week and now all the games show this intermittent line issue….. any ideas what needs reseating?

How are the Hori Famicom pads? The regular sized ones with a curve along the top. I have several of the Hudson joypads and they’re quite nice, didn’t know how Hori compared.
