Weekly Thread /r/FCS Top 25 and HBCU Top 10 Poll Submission - 2026 Week 8

Click here to vote for Week 8 in the /r/FCS Poll.

After signing in, click the link that says Current /r/FCS Poll. The poll will remain open until 12 pm (noon) Central Time on Tuesday, October 20th. The results will be posted later on /r/FCS.

Note: Like last week, we're trying out a new voting method. You may now select "I have a computerized ranking and would like to vote by copy-and-paste." This will make it faster for voters to vote with those systems compared to the dropdown menus. The team naming convention follows the /r/CFB inline flair system with only the school name, not the mascot (e.g. Abilene Christian, not Abilene Christian Wildcats). Because this method makes it harder to check for duplicates and introduces the possibility of typos or inconsistent names for teams, please only use this voting option if you have a computerized ranking that will automatically avoid those issues.

Optional D1 HBCU Top Ten Poll

You now have the option to vote just for the HBCU Top 10 if you so choose! At the end of your FCS Top 25 (or Top 10) submission, you'll be given the opportunity to also submit a vote for your ranking of the top 10 HBCUs in the subdivision. This is optional and meant to be an additional fanbase voice within the Black College National Championship conversation.

Note: this does not prevent you from ranking the HBCUs in your standard FCS ranking submission.

As a reminder, the /r/FCS poll is now part of the Massey Ratings Composite. As such, we highly recommend submitting a full top 25 vote if you think you can put one together. But we're leaving the option to submit just a top 10 for those who’d prefer that route.

  • Please check that you didn't vote for the same team twice. Ballots with a duplicated team that are not fixed by the due date will be discarded.

  • Joke votes will be thrown out at the moderators' discretion. Diversity of opinions is good; trolling is not.

  • If you make a mistake on your ballot or would like to change it for any reason, please re-submit a corrected ballot. Your old one will be discarded automatically, and only your newest ballot will count. You can resubmit as many times as necessary until the deadline.

  • If you're unsure if you messed up your ballot, please leave a comment and we'll take a look for you and let you know.

Here are some useful links to help you with your submission:

Texas and Purple

Every college in Texas that plays football and has purple in their schools colors won this week (which fucked my Baylor Bears for sure). I don’t think it’s ever happened before.

Edit:Every NCAA member school, was not aware we had a purple naia school.

Weekly Thread The Good, The Bad and the Ugly (Week 7)

Another week, another edition of your daddy's favorite show. And now, we present to you... CHAOS!!!! Cues up 'The Only Thing They Fear is Yourself' from the Doom Eternal soundtrack

The Good

  • I am a huge fan of Chaos, and boy did it wreck shop this weekend. Four Top 10 victims this weekend, with the biggest scalp going to North Dakota in their upset win over #1 South Dakota State. Cornell, Idaho and SE Louisiana all followed up and now... Oh god, the door is open. Tarleton State is going to be Number one now. I think the Anti-Texans crowd here are going to seethe and mald over that.

  • We had another edition of the Ivy League Dinner Date this weekend as Columbia and Penn squared off over a nice risotto topped with sea urchin roe (What, I watch a lot of the old Iron Chef episodes, sue me). A very fun back and forth game ensued as the Lions and Quakers traded scores in the first half. All Penn could do was a field goal and then Columbia snatches the lead in the 4th for a 28-27 victory that left Penn paying the tab for the meal.

  • There's a really good chance that Drake's reign of terror in the Pioneer League may have come to an end thanks to... Marist?!? Yeah, the Red Foxes came to Des Moines and knocked off the champs 27-22 to go 3-0 in league play. They now hold a game and a half cushion on Presbyterian (actual half game lead and the head-to-head victory over the Blue Hose). Things are going to get much tougher for the Red Foxes as they host two of the teams chasing them in St. Thomas and Butler.

In other 'Good' news: Monmouth and Campbell win, inches closer to king maker game in season finale; Youngstown State doing Youngstown State things yet again; Long Island wins the battle of NYC NEC teams and has the inside track to auto bid.

The Bad

  • GEORGETOWN!!! You hurt my sweet, sweet baby boy Colgate. You. Will. PAY!!

  • Our Brunch Ball Biff this week goes to Yale. Rhode Island has been.. well, inconsistent would be a gentle way of putting it. The Rams would complete their Ivy League sweep by taking down the Bulldogs and making Dante Reno look mortal. No rest for the weary, though. Yale stars in the next edition of the Ivy League Dinner Date next week against Penn.

  • Time for the Chuck Norris Award for Biggest Ass Kicking and this week's winner is Stephen F. Austin. The Lumberjacks avoided the chaos that ruled the Top 10 this week with a 56-0 thrashing of Nicholls State. Just an absolute beat down in the Bayou as the Lumberjacks have won 17 in a row (new school record) and 12 straight in the Southland (also a new school record). Our runner ups this week include Montana State (a 36 point victory over Eastern Washington, making me eat a ton of crow in the process) and West Florida (a 34 point romp over former conference foe West Alabama).

In other 'Bad' news: Morgan State finally gets ranked, loses to Tennessee State, probably will lose their rank next week; The Citadel and Charleston Southern get sacrificed by the FBS Gods; Dome Hex goes north, claims South Dakota State.

The Lehigh

  • It's extremely rare to see a Patriot League team ranked this high and Lehigh has proven their worth. So... the fuck was that against Cornell? You let their quarterback have a career day against your defense. You were trailing the entire game. You just let the Big Red beat a top 5 team for the first time since 1939, when they defeated... Ohio State?!? My God, football was weird back then. Still, the Mountain Hawks are on top in the Patriot League, but for this week... you get the Mushu Treatment: Dishonor on your team, dishonor on your school, dishonor on your crappy performance yesterday and dishonor on the fact that you aren't the Engineers.

  • HA HA! Montana got Potato'd!

  • Northern Iowa may have the Dome Hex, but you don't have Beau Brungard. Yeah, that went as expected.

In other 'Ugly' news: Towson loses again, reaches 0-8; UC Davis gets ran over by Southern Utah; Chaos also took down many lower ranked teams.

With that, the floor is open.

SFA

I am very high on SFA, i just got back from a total of 12~ hours of driving, to Thibodeaux and back to watch SFA beat the brakes off of a Nicholls state team that is weak and SFA should have gotten 75 if it werent for the lazy penalties. Lamar is showing cracks that can be exploited easily, SELA won against lamar with a flash in the pan. SFA will go undefeated. I might just be a stuipid forestry major who only cares about trees and football but mark my words. SFA will make it very far into the playoffs.

Trifecta

SDSU*mainly the fact they are #1) loses as one of their fans called me a r3t4rd last week. Hilarious.

Griz loses, well as a cats fan and hearing you lost to a 0 and 4 team sh1t talking the whole 2 weeks. Hysterical.

The cats winning, priceless. Was it good eh no but they still won by a pretty large margin so im going to go blissfully ignorant.

The trifecta for me this weekend.

Casual Prediction: Idaho State finishes second to last in the BSC

Looking at our last 5 games, I think we beat Utah Tech in two weeks and thats it. We’re going to finish 2-7 in conference play.

This coaching staff and this team genuinely play like they don’t give a fuck if we win or lose. There is no urgency. There hasn’t been a single meaningful adjustment in four weeks. Every single team in the conference knows exactly what to expect from us because our film and play calling is so cookie cutter. Watching the team on the sideline, you can tell they don’t have their hearts in it.

Cody Hawkins is on fraud watch if he can’t get this team back on track.

Our offensive coordinator needs to be fired. If our defense wasn’t playing well, we’re not in any of the last 4 games, period. They’re all blowouts. It’s seriously difficult to express how predictable the offensive play calling has been. I’ve seen the exact same plays run for the entire season and they’re not working anymore.

We can’t even close out a game with a lead and possession and under two minutes on the clock. One time? Whatever, take it on the chin. Two straight weeks of the exact same late game scenario is completely unacceptable. And you definitely can’t do it in front of 10,000 people for homecoming and then on your rival’s home turf.

Y’all this team fooled me. I thought we would be different this year but it’s the same old bungles.

Discussion Is Tarleton State Any Good?

A classic question. Age-old. Some say that in the beginning God created the earth, and then immediately after, all of the FCS questioned whether Tarleton stay was actually any good.

The Lord's response? Maybe we will find out next week!

But to get serious for a second... Will we?

Now I know the boys down in Texas will respond with a resounding "We don't need to find anything out because we already know that we're a good team. WE'RE UNDEFEATED! WE SHOULD BE NUMBER ONE!

And my simple response to that is, have they actually beat any good teams? Or have they handed 40 to 50 points smackdowns to all the dog water teams that they have beat? No! Their entire resume is comprised of teams that can't even sniff the top 50, and the rest of their schedule is much of the same.

Is that really what we call the number one team? An undefeated team that has a resume filled with 10 to 20 point wins on teams that can only claim wins because they punched down to the NAIA? Let's get real. We won't find out anything next week, or the week after, or the week after that. We won't find anything out until the likely #1 Tarleton gets smacked down by the 4th best MVFC or Big Sky that they meet in the second round of the playoffs.

Nuff said. FTG but I truly believe even with their lousy defense they could roll Tarleton by 30.

Or I'm wrong? Love to hear a good argument against this.

Analysis Undefeated and winless teams across the FCS after Week 7 (2026)

Oh boy what a week, and it's been a bloodbath among the remaining undefeated. Four have been knocked down a peg, and only four remain (amazingly enough none in the MVFC or Big Sky). And because future undefeated matchups have become mathematically impossible with Lamar's loss, the chart is retired for the year. Not so much movement on the Division I winless though; only Duquesne got through with a close scrape against Stonehill.

Undefeated/Technically Undefeated

No longer FCS undefeated:

  • Lamar Lamar Cardinals (5-2; @Louisiana, @Southeastern)
  • Morgan State Morgan State Bears (5-2; @Arizona State, @Tennessee State)
  • Lehigh Lehigh Mountain Hawks (6-1; @Cornell)
  • South Dakota State South Dakota State Jackrabbits (5-2; @Northwestern, @North Dakota)

Division I Winless:

  • Chicago State Chicago State Cougars (1-6; Kentucky Christian)
  • Hampton Hampton Pirates (1-6; VA Lynchburg)
  • Mercyhurst Mercyhurst Lakers (1-6; Glenville State)
  • Morehead State Morehead State Eagles (1-6; Kentucky Christian)
  • Stetson Stetson Hatters (1-6; Webber International)
  • Wagner Wagner Seahawks (1-6; Southern Connecticut State)
  • West Georgia West Georgia Wolves (1-6; Fort Valley State)

Winless:

No longer winless:

  • Duquesne Duquesne Dukes (2-4; Rio Grande, @Stonehill)

Analysis We need to ban domestic stadiums

Frankly, dome stadiums are an affront to God. He gave us the great outdoors to play football in and we respond to this by building domes? It’s pure heresy.
There are also strategic advantages to playing outside. Imagine if you will, having a team from the south playing outside in the Dykehouse in December. They’d freeze their asses off!
Lastly, we need to address the voodoo that comes with them. It’s just unfair, as I’m sure Montana State fans can also attest to.
Thank you for reading.

Big Sky Championship

With the way the Big Sky is looking right now (7 1-loss teams, which will change significantly today) we could see 2-3 one-loss teams, my personal prediction is Nau and both Montanas. How does this look for the overall champion? Considering they all cannibalized each other…

Discussion How does NIL money work?

Does anybody have a good grasp of the NIL process? Are students technically employees of the school (or of a school's booster program)? Are students "private contractors" who have independent contracts with the school and businesses (like a 1099)? I understand many student athletes have brand partnership deals on social media where they have codes and I'm assuming that's independent, but when you hear "this student is getting paid $X amount of money to play for X school", how are those funds administered? Are students required to report all earnings to the NCAA/University?

Bonus questions - If students are employees of the school, are they required to participate in employee pension programs and the like?

This is why a 24 team FBS playoff will actually not be well received.

The current Stats Perform FCS top 25 has 10/13 leagues represented in the top 25.

The current AP Top 25 has 5/10.

That’s your major difference. One group pays attention to the entire sport. The other barely looks past 10-15 teams.

Discussion We in the FCS can once again be thankful for our playoff format

It's been reported that the FBS is expanding to 24 teams in their playoff, but only one spot will be reserved for a G6 team. The top five conference champions (four of which will be from power conferences) plus 19 at large teams will make up the field.

I think this is disgraceful. G6 teams make up more than half of the FBS and yet most years they'll be playing for a single playoff bid.

I'm a fan of an FCS team that would, in theory, benefit from that format if it were instituted in the FCS. Missouri Valley and Big Sky teams would be the biggest beneficiaries of such a change. At the same time, I'm a fan of an FBS team who is a huge benficiary of the 23+1 format, as it substantially increases their chances to make the new playoff.

But even with all that in mind, I'm completely against it. Every conference champion should get a playoff birth, full stop. I'm so thankful the FCS is sensible in this regard. I think it's great that OVC schools, PFL schools, NEC schools, etc still have a straightforward avenue to make the big dance. And beyond that, it makes me a lot more incentivized to pay attention to those teams' seasons; even if they're not championship contenders, it's fun to watch their games as they battle for a playoff spot. The new FBS playoff format makes most G6 teams' seasons irrelevent.

So as the FBS expands and cuts out smaller programs, it gives us followers of the FCS a great opportunity to appreciate how good we've got it.
