Trip Planning 📆 Parque Inglés summer weather?

I am putting together a packing list for the northern segments of the Greater Patagonian Trail. I would be there this January and am particularly interested in segment 6, which begins at Parque Inglés.

My searches say that daytime temperatures normally tend to around 25°C with overnights lows around 12°. Is that more or less correct?

And is my understanding that El Niño conditions in the region tend to be warmer and drier than average?

Many thanks!

Trip Planning 📆 Recommendations for reliable tour operators in San Pedro de Atacama & Easter Island?

Hi everyone!

I will be traveling to Chile in about one week and spending time in both San Pedro de Atacama and Easter Island (Rapa Nui) (with a stop in Santiago as well).

As a passionate photographer, my main priority is finding reliable, high-quality tour operators that prioritize visiting the most iconic spots (like Valle de la Luna, Piedras Rojas, Tatio Geysers, Rano Raraku, Ahu Tongariki, etc.) with proper timing and good pacing.

I want to avoid budget "tour mill" operators that rush you through secondary locations or spend half the day stop-and-go for tourist traps. Seeing how widely prices vary between agencies, I am looking for companies that offer the best balance between quality and fair pricing.

Specifically:

- San Pedro de Atacama – general tours: Which agencies offer well-organized tours with solid logistics and good guides that don't rush the main highlights?

- San Pedro de Atacama – astronomy & astrophotography: I am specifically looking for an astro tour where bringing and using your own mirrorless camera and tripod is allowed. I know many standard stargazing tours forbid personal cameras and only offer quick souvenir shots, so I’d love recommendations for agencies (or dedicated photo/astrophotography guides) that let you shoot the night sky yourself while also offering professional photos.

- Easter Island (Rapa Nui): Which tour companies or local certified guides are best (e.g., getting to key sites like Ahu Tongariki or Rano Raraku before/after the big tour buses)?

Any recent experiences, specific agency names, or price range estimates would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Experience 📌 Santiago to Maitencillo

We (myself, my partner, and our 3 kids 7, 4, and 4) are visiting Chile over winter break. We’re spending most of our time in Santiago with my partner’s family, but we are taking a trip to Maitencillo to stay at a beach house with family. We’re looking for something fun to do with kids on the drive back to Santiago. It would just be a stop along the way back, no more than a few hours. In the past we’ve done the jardin botanico outside of Vina and we loved that, so something along those lines or other little kid friendly activities (parks, etc). We like hiking but can’t walk too far with the 4 year olds. Hopefully not too far off the main drive home. Thanks!

Question❓ Transferring from Domestic to International in Santiago airport

Hi all. I am planning a trip to Chile next April and am planning to visit Rapa Nui as our last destination. So we will be flying from there back to the US, via Santiago of course. The flights we are looking at have a 1 hour and 40 minute layover in Santiago and I am wondering if that is enough time to go through passport control and make our connection. All the flights are on LATAM so we shouldn't have to worry about rechecking baggage.

Thanks!

Y degustando vinos deliciosos.

Question❓ Feedback wanted: 4.5 weeks in Patagonia, incl. Carretera Austral and Atacama

Hi all,

I'm planning a ~4.5 week trip from Central Europe and would love your feedback. I've scanned various itineraries already, but struggled to find one that connects the different trip legs the way we planned them.

Trip basics

- 33 nights, Dec 27 to Jan 29

- W-Trek booked, rest is still open

Route

Arrival

- Dec 27: Night flight Central Europe → Buenos Aires

- Dec 28: Arrive EZE, transfer to AEP, flight to El Calafate

El Calafate and El Chaltén

- Dec 29: Perito Moreno Glacier, then bus to El Chaltén

- Dec 30: Laguna de los Tres

- Dec 31: Laguna Torre or Huemul Glacier

- Jan 1: Free day / weather buffer

- Jan 2: Bus to El Calafate, bus to Puerto Natales

W-Trek, Torres del Paine, booked

- Jan 3: Bus to Torres Central. Night at Central

- Jan 4: Mirador Base Torres early, then hike to Cuernos. Night at Cuernos

- Jan 5: Valle del Francés and Mirador Británico. Night at Paine Grande

- Jan 6: Paine Grande → Grey Glacier. Night at Refugio Grey

- Jan 7: Grey → Paine Grande, catamaran, bus back to Puerto Natales

Carretera Austral, 10-day loop from Puerto Montt

- Jan 8: Flight Puerto Natales → Puerto Montt, pick up rental car

- Jan 9: Ferries to Caleta Gonzalo, night in Chaitén

- Jan 10: Pumalín Park, night in Chaitén

- Jan 11: Drive to Villa Cerro Castillo (~500km)

- Jan 12: Laguna Cerro Castillo hike, drive to Puerto Río Tranquilo

- Jan 13: Marble Caves

- Jan 14: San Rafael Glacier boat trip

- Jan 15: Drive back to Puyuhuapi, stop in Coyhaique

- Jan 16: Queulat National Park

- Jan 17: Ferry from Caleta Gonzalo, drive to Puerto Montt, return car

Santiago

- Jan 18: Flight Puerto Montt → Santiago

- Jan 19: Buffer day

Atacama Desert

- Jan 20: Flight Santiago → Calama, transfer to San Pedro de Atacama, Valle de la Luna at sunset

- Jan 21: Lagunas Altiplánicas and Piedras Rojas

- Jan 22: Laguna Cejar and Salar

- Jan 23: El Tatio Geysers

- Jan 24: Free day

Buenos Aires and return

- Jan 25: Flights San Pedro → Calama → Santiago → Buenos Aires

- Jan 26: Plaza de Mayo, San Telmo, La Boca, Recoleta

- Jan 27: Palermo, Puerto Madero

- Jan 28: Buenos Aires → Central Europe

Feedback I'd love

- Is the 10-day Carretera Austral loop realistic, or too much driving? Any stops you'd cut or add?

- Is 5 nights in Atacama right, or would you rather spend the time elsewhere?

- Anything you'd do differently overall?

Thanks a lot!
