Personal How do i cope with my mom being in prison.

I am 18M and my mom was arrested 3 years ago and got sentenced to life in prison regarding debts and money related stuff, where she’ll be serving atleast 15-20 years, and because of the laws in my country i could only see her once a month through a glass window and meet her physically once every few years, she is in her mid 40s, and will be in her 60s when she gets out, my grandma is around that age and she can barely walk, i cannot imagine my mom like that.

I did well to cope with it for awhile until i got to hug her for the first time recently, which reminded me of what it felt like and it broke me, idk how to deal with it, does anyone have any tips please help me.

Personal I just posted Chapters 1-4 of Trapped in a Forensic Mental Hospital When I Wasn’t Crazy, on Substack

🇨🇦I just posted Chapters 1-4 of Trapped in a Forensic Mental Hospital When I Wasn’t Crazy on Substack. Here is Chapter 4:

https://davidmstaffen.substack.com/p/chapter-4-getting-by-over-the-years

The other Chapters 1-3 can be accessed through the above link.

I know I’m not a novelist, nor am I showcasing my skill set. I’m getting the truth out there, because my former involuntary psychiatrist, Dr. AG Ahmed, keeps writing defamatory letters to my employers and my family doctor.

He is getting everyone around me to abuse me—while without a court order or my consent. I was wrongfully at his prison hospital, because he lied under oath during court and the yearly review boards.

I was in a self-defence fight which I believe I’m innocent. I know I absolutely wasn’t crazy at the self-defence fight or the decade at his prison hospital. Dr. AG Ahmed is a liar.

I see no alternative then to tell my side, because although I received an Absolute Discharge, he apparently isn’t going to leave me alone.

Thank-you.

Discussion I just was released from prison 2 mo. Ago

I was recently released from prison. OSP in Oregon. I'm schizophrenic so they put me in the fuckjng mental health unit where I spent ,thankfully, only a year. I didn't go out to chow. They brought us our food. We didn't get an hour out. We rotted or did nothing in our cells. And to top it all off , this rubbed me the wrong fuckjng way the whole year, in the morning normal prisoners could get coffee .... Well us in the mental health unit got two decaffeinated instant coffee packs. DECAFFEINATED.

The only thing good about that situation was we got paid 100$ a month for going to 1 or more groups for that month.

And get this if you were on involuntary meds and refused them. The guards would suit up in riot gear and either come taze you or pepper spray you(which affected the whole unit and made everyone choke)

BUT there is a good side to everything. Now that I'm out . I don't know if it's my age catching up to me ( I'm only 32) but I've learned to really start paying attention to my actions and behaviours, especially in consideration to others, I'm in an open dorm temporary housing that has people from just exiting prison and on probation who are off the streets staying here. We have 4-5 fridges per housing space and no stove or oven but a microwave. I thought I was gonna be homeless in a strange unknown town. But I was lucky to find this resource and have been so lucky to find the other resources that have made bus travel and affording my cigarettes and clothing vouchers to Walmart possible.

I veered off from an important subject. I think I gained maturity. When I'm interacting with all the people living in the housing space I've noticed a patience and humility. I didn't have that in prison. There were people screaming and kicking the walls of their cells for hours with no consequences and some days I'd shout a bunch of stupid fucked up shit too. I was recently diagnosed as schizophrenic so that's new. It's opened up a future where I can live in a house rather than on the streets or in a shelter.

PLEASE SHARE WITH ME YOUR STORY OF CHANGE

News Prison for Profit: Slavery Lives

In America, there is a vast, hidden workforce: prison inmates, many deemed safe enough to work with the public, but also too dangerous to release. Thousands of US corporations profit from forced prison labor. If an inmate refuses, they can lose family visitation, be put in solitary confinement, or have their parole denied. Proponents have called it a low-cost alternative to offshore outsourcing.

Question Moms with incarcerated partners: How did you navigate them coming home, especially with addiction involved?

My man is currently in for an alcohol related conviction. He was drinking up until he went down. He's an alcoholic...

Obviously I miss the man I met, who wasnt drinking and hiding it. We have a young daughter and an older school age daughter (not his but he refers to her as his daughter) I am so happy to have him home soon, but am equally as nervous for him being back. I hear life is FAST outside of prison and I dont really have the time to be patient with him. Dealing with his family making this all about them and how hard its been for them is exhausting while I have been left to raise our baby and still hold everything else together.

Any moms have some advice for me?

Question Suicide in prison

What were the tell tale signs you noticed inmates showing prior to? And how long after those signs until they committed? If you seen anyone or heard of suicides in prison, how did they do it?

Someone I know is facing a 25 year sentence, they were arrested 3.5 weeks ago. He’s been in denial, thinking he may get released or a lesser sentence. His lawyer spoke with him yesterday and gave him the reality of this situation, and he was just as devastated as he was the initial arrest date. I believe he came to the realization and the severity of things. The heightened emotions yesterday were very bad and tough to hear. Today he wakes up and had a peaceful and detached tone to him. Said he felt great and it was the best day he’s had in there so far. Threw my whole family off with the change of emotions in such a short alarming time frame. He has been in solitary confinement the whole time. He did get to go outside for an hour for the first time yesterday, he also asked for a bible and a priest all of a sudden too. Which he is religious, but he did not want a bible sent to him last week, as I said I would send him one through commissary. Not sure if I’m overthinking it, and if he had a good day simply by being outside for the first time in 3.5 weeks. I know when you read he’s facing a 25 year sentence he “probably deserves it.” He is not soulless, or violent. He has never done drugs or drank in his life and always made good decisions. I may be biased but I believe he got involved in something not knowing the severity of the situation and made a mistake. He has two children under 5 whom he adores. Not sure what to think. Please do not comment anything evil or hurtful. I did not commit the crime and I am a human with feelings.

With that being said, any answers, opinions, or insight would be greatly appreciated from the bottom of my heart, truly.

Paid Research Study for People Charged Fees for the Cost of their Prison Incarceration

Researchers from Syracuse University, North Carolina State University, and University of Southern California are conducting confidential interviews with individuals and their families who have been charged fees for the day-to-day cost of their incarceration, also known as pay-to-stay fees. The study seeks to understand the experience and impacts of being charged pay-to-stay fees for the cost of the incarceration.

We are conducting in-person interviews with people who live in Connecticut, Arizona, Nevada, Michigan, or Florida. Interviews will be conducted in a convenient public or private location for the participant. If an in-person interview is not possible, we will conduct the interview via Zoom.

Scheduling is flexible. Participants will be compensated $40 Visa gift card for their participation in a 1 hour interview.

ELIGIBILITY: English-speaking individual, age 18 or older, who was previously incarcerated in prison and then charged fees by the state for the cost of that incarceration or the family member of someone charged with these fees. Must reside in Connecticut, Arizona, Nevada, Michigan, or Florida. Must have a Zoom-compatible device with access to the Internet, for those interested in a Zoom interview.

If interested in participating e-mail [captivemoneylab@gmail.com](mailto:captivemoneylab@gmail.com)
