Discussion Which is seen from the books Are you most excited to see in the show??

Oops, voice to text butchered the title. "Which Scene"

As the title says which scene from the books are you most excited to see in the show? I just finished probably my 10th re-read of the series, and I was thinking, which scene would I most want to see? And I think I've settled on Islanzadi, fighting in the battle at the end, her ferocity seems awesome to say the least. And I'm really excited to see how they portray that on screen.

Currently Reading Arya dosing Eragon

It's a bit wild that she gets Eragon plastered and high right after the battle of Dras Leona. I'm not saying it was a bad thing, it's just a little crazy. They really took Wyrden's death hard I guess. Ended up biting them in the ass though. Worth it to see Arya get smashed and white girl dance lol

Fanwork Can we make a volunteer full-cast audiobook?

Hello!

Two weeks ago I shared a proposal of an AI audiobook that received one clear feedback message:

"No to AI, yes to full-cast audiobook!"

So, let's try that then!

Say hi to ARIIA!
(Audience Recording Initiative for Inheritance cycle Audiobooks)

The idea is to explore the possibility of creating a fan-powered audiobook of Eragon and, Gûntera willing, the rest of the Inheritance Cycle.

TO BE CLEAR! We are not publishing anything without permission. We’ll need to secure the necessary license from Paolini’s representatives and Knopf/Penguin Random House before distributing any recordings. This could be the hardest part of the whole project, and our work might be in vain. But I think it's worth a try!

If you’d like to lend your voice, edit audio, help organize the project or simply share ideas, you’re welcome to join the Discord server!

Let’s see what we might do together!

Discussion Could this "Soothsayer" be Angela? And is it possible that Eragon happened to get visions of his future because he randomly stumbled on parts of the country where these vapors rose from the ground?

Question Do riders evolve even further?

Does it like stop at elf-like of do they evolve even more over the time? Is there a final for or continuing progress towards more dagon like and does a bound with the dragon change things you manipulated on yourself using magic? Like the more animal like elves, if they became riders, would these changes using magic be reversed or altered?

Discussion While Brisingr is and has always been my favorite book, one thing I dislike is how consistently bad Eragon and Saphira treats Blodgrahm and the other 11 elves.

Currently Reading Start to Eldest

Currently reading Eldest for the first time ever and losing my shit over the tonal shift at the start. One chapter is the dwarf party because Saphira promised to mend Isidar Mithrim and the next is Ajihad Funeral and the oath to Nasuada. Paolini WHY

Question Does this scene exist?

I read the Inheritance cycle as a kid, and remembered a scene where Eragon is attempting to balance and walk along Saphira’s back/tail. He has to use the connection of their minds to feel her movements and anticipate what she would do next.
I just reread the books and did not come across this scene. Did I make up this scene as a child or does it exist somewhere? The former is more than likely… I also remembered Eragon and Arya sharing a kiss, which obviously doesn’t happen. Eragon certainly inspires imagination!
Either way, I’d love to know for sure.

Discussion Whats general consensus on this? Did Gannel summon an actual god, or is it a shade like Saphira thinks?

Question How much does the language matter?

At the beginning of Eragon, Brom describes how an experienced magic user could say one thing and mean another, and do the thing that they meant. Yet later, when Eragon phrases something slightly wrong, he creates Elva. Why?

Discussion Why does no one talk about how Saphira technically sexually assaulted Glaedr?

I'm having a debate with a friend. While we both agree that Eragon definitely made uncomfortable and unwelcome approaches towards Ayra, it struck me as odd that no one talks about how Saphira essentially did the same but worse to Glaedr.

Fanwork Oh my goodness (Brisingr Progress)

Sooo hi, I didn't poof xD hows it goin?

Been working on a few projects recently that aren't the Inheritance weapons, but I'm back to post some more progress on Brisingr, specifically the scabbard.

All textures here are for blockout only.

The tip of the scabbard is still verrry rough

I have been rereading the requisite chapter in Brisingr more times than I care to admit, the nose cap, or whatever it's called, is described as: "a piece of blued brightsteel carved into the shape of a leaf capped the end of the scabbard."(Brisingr 679) This is my 4th crack at it, and it still don't look right (and yes, I know theres no carved detail yet)

My idea is to make it look like the tip is a leaf that is wrapped around the scabbard to form the nose guard.

Currently, i am struggling with the shape.

Will continue to post updates when I have them, appreciate y'alls feedback.

Discussion Murtagh book

Hi all , I recently just read the murtagh book and wanted to open up a discussion of how im feeling post book😂 specifically regarding Murtagh as a character. I don’t know if it’s just me but Murtagh doesn’t come off likeable. And i know his purpose from a literary perspective is to be the imperfect hero , so its a given theres going to be a lot of things to make him hard to like BUT my biggest issue with him is the way he thinks, specifically his inability to acknowledge& accept&reconcile the role he played in the grand scheme of things of why things are the way they are. His has all these unresolved feelings against eragon, dwarves ,elves , and people of alagaesia but he doesnt seem to accept the role he played in events. NOBODY told him to kill Hrothgar!! That was him on his own! Nobody forced him to take a level of pride in his position and sort of revel in the destruction he was causing in the pursuit of peace. Instead of looking for ways to make peace with all those parties he decided to turn into a little boy with a “i can do it all by myself” tantrum. And then to add insult to injury, he doesn’t even know relevant magic.. i am really hoping for character development in the impeding installments bc this aint it. Lmk your thoughts

Discussion The end of Brisingr

Before I say anything else I want to make it clear that this is not me shitting on the novel or Paolini's writing style or ability. It's just that the last few chapters of Brisingr hit like a rapid fire fever dream. I thought the first time I read it the feeling was from reading in the car late at night on a long road trip. However, I'm reading it again and it's the same feeling. BAM Eldunari are a thing, BAM we're attacking a city, BAM new shade, BAM two important characters are dead, BAM there goes the shade. Just wondering everyone's thoughts.

Discussion Why isn't something like this a standard spell.

I was thinking about how almost all the instances were someone attempts to slow a fall with magic they essentially lift there own weight for the duration of the fall witch takes staggering energy. So I went to the wiki and put this together: Sem iek shajalví sé neia eka taune iet shajalví eom deloi. Witch should be: that my motion may not harm me take my motion and give it to the earth. Evin if my version wouldn't work why wouldn't there be a similar spell taught to the riders in case they fell in flight?

edit: I realize I should clarify two things

1 the idea is that instead of the forces taking effect as usual i.e. your feet stoping and the rest of you continuing down, the spell would make the stoping force of the ground would be applied to your entire body at once the stop doesn't kill you the fact you don't stop all at once dose.

2 it would be a conditional ward. Activating when you hit the ground hard enough to hurt yourself. (I couldn't find conditionals on the wiki)

Discussion Explicit and implicit spells, and also the intent of the universe?

I was inspired by a recent post to turn my thoughts about spells into a post and see what people think. Let me know!

We see examples of good and bad spells that are either rooted in physics or not. Thrysta vindr is a great one, draumr kopa not really. Brom says that intent matters and understanding the underlying principles of what you’re doing is very important, like an experienced spellcaster/philosopher could say adurna and make a gemstone. But wasn’t the whole point of tying the ancient language to magic so that you weren’t able to do this? So that you couldn’t say water and accidentally make a bomb because of stray thoughts/intent?

Regardless of the answer, there are a lot of inconsistencies here then. Eragon is able to cast spells in which he doesn’t understand how or why they work, like the infinite pocket of space to store the eldunari. Maybe that one is okay because it’s long enough that it seems like he has to explicitly spell out what it’s doing. But what about atra nosu waise vardo fra eld hornya? May we be warded from listeners is a result, not an action.

The only possibility is that the universe is somehow capable of understanding intent and making it a reality and will choose (ideally) the lowest energy path to do so. But that directly contradicts the idea that the spellcasters intent matters for unexplicitly described spells, because otherwise this spell would do slightly different things based on what the user wants it to do, and whoever uses it would have to understand what you should intend for it to do physically before using it, which defeats the purpose. You might as well do it wordlessly. A good spell would be something like ‘direct the vibration of our words only into her ears’ or ‘increase the stiffness in the air/walls/media around us’. This requires an understanding of physics that likely only some elves, some dragons, and Angela and tenga understand.

Any thoughts?

Does anyone else find Lord Barst taunting and ragebaiting Roran with the 'Lackhammer' title funny?

Something about the way he says it so sincerely, as if he means it, but also with a hint of derisiveness is what gets me.

Even in his dying moments he keeps taunting Roran with it. Gotta appreciate the dedication.

What do you guys think?

Fanwork Replica Dragon Scales

Recently, there has been a website creating and selling replica dragon scales by the name of Scales / @scalesatelier on Instagram. Recently, they have begun making scales from the Inheritance Cycle, starting with Saphira and Thorn.

Saphira’s is absolutely beautiful, with various of blue shades, with near-black all the way to a metallic or pearlescent sheen depending how light seems to catch the surface.

What I like about Thorn’s is that it seems the creator has been influenced by Thorn being grown too fast and it’s effected his body. It looks twisted or unnatural, but still has that deep red colour that would be through the entire scale if he was allowed to grow at a normal rate.

Will be adding both to my Christmas collection this year. What do you all think of them and do you
Hope to see the rest of the dragons done?

Question The name of the name of names

Is it odd that I think the name of names should be Paolini? Wouldn’t it be ironic if the strongest god in the world of eragon was Christopher Paolini himself and saying his name invokes power?
