The PCM post cites a daily Mail article that claims there ARE 350 Recorded cases of child marriage in Germany.

First the actual image used in this article is recycled from an old article that is about a child marriage that happened in Afghanistan, not Germany. They used the same picture to mislead people. This is a very common tactic in the rightwing propoganda sphere. See slides 2 and 3.

First this info is from 2012 until now. Second the Article claims that these marriages are ongoing! This is not true, 8 were annulled legally and the rest were ended in other ways that aren't specified but none of these child marriages are still together. Slide 4 and source below.

Next the info in the actual article is spotty at best. The only concrete info you can learn is that "according to a AfD member on twitter" 40% are from Syrians and "many" are from Middle Eastern immigrants to Germany. They don't show any evidence of any of these demographics. Source is "Just trust me bro".

Now for some info to put this in the appropriate context.

IN THE USA THERE HAVE BEEN OVER 300,000 CHILD MARRIAGES IN THE USA BETWEEN 2000 AND 2021.

I couldn't get a good break down of the demographics but all I could find (via Gemini, and I looked around for actual sources) was a large amount of child marriages in the USA were from American Indian and Chinese immigrants. No clue what the veracity of that info is. The rest are probably a mix of all other demographics.

But if you see the chart on the last slide you will see that most are in red states. Nevada being the worst offender.

Now how does that 358 child marriages that no longer exist look in comparison?

Daily Mail article and PCM post are both pure Islamophobia and do not cite any verifiable sources with a demographic break down. The last few paragraphs of the DM article only cite the UN website on GLOBAL child marriage rates that say it is "worst in West and central africa". Nothing to back up their claims about Germany and the demographics making up the child marriages there.

Anyone who wants to combat Islamophobia on Reddit and the Internet at large should feel the need to report this spam to the moderators of PCM (who endorse this disinformation) and to Reddit admins

I got this sub after the former mod team was removed for something, I forget what. Maybe brigading. Anyway, someone I know said they really wanted to mod it but they did not have enough mod history to be able to request it, but that if I could, they would do the modding and I could just oversee things. My honest belief is that the Lindsey Clancy case got so big in the news specifically to normalize saying repeal the 19th constantly.

Is it something that I think will realistically happen any time in the near future? Most likely not, but just the fact that bots or shills or people are getting paid or instructed to keep repeating this is fucking terrible.

The worst part is that a lot of regular guys who would normally be pretty opposed to this issue are going for it because of the sensationalization of the "Patrick Clancy is guilty" narrative.
