Anonymised CV below. 5+ years in data, now at a French bank. Applying for data engineering roles in Switzerland.

Does this read as a data engineer's CV? If you hire data engineers, where would you stop reading, and why?

Don't hold back.

Software [3 YOE] Full-Stack Developer Resume Review — Seeking Feedback on Experience, Project Presentation, and Bullet Impact

Hi everyone,

I've read the community wiki and reviewed the resume guidelines. I've tried to follow the recommended format and content principles, while deliberately deviating from a few recommendations for specific reasons.

My background

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and a software development diploma
  • Independent/contract full-stack development experience, including projects delivered for small businesses and individual clients
  • Current tech stack: C#, ASP.NET Core, React, SQL Server/PostgreSQL, Docker, and CI/CD
  • Targeting entry-level or junior software engineering roles in the US, particularly full-stack or backend positions

Intentional deviations from the guidelines

  1. Summary section: I kept a short summary to communicate my software engineering focus and provide context for my background and transition into tech. I'm unsure whether it adds value or simply takes up space that would be better used for technical accomplishments.
  2. Personal projects under Experience: I included my ongoing software development work as an experience-style entry rather than creating a separate section for it. My intention was to present my recent hands-on development work prominently, without representing it as conventional employment. (And also masking my part time job and easier use in job application web sites ) I'm open to changing this if the current wording creates ambiguity or weakens credibility.
  3. Whole Foods Market role: I included my current non-technical job, but without bullet points, to show my current employment history without taking space away from relevant technical experience. I'm unsure whether this is the best approach for software engineering applications.

I'd appreciate general feedback, but I'm particularly interested in answers to these questions:

  1. Experience vs. Projects: Does the way I've presented my ongoing personal development work make the nature of that experience clear, or would you recommend moving it to Projects?
  2. Contract experience credibility: Does the description of my independent work and the claim of 30+ delivered applications sound credible and sufficiently specific? What would you change to make the scope and impact clearer?
  3. Bullet quality: Which bullets are too generic, lack measurable impact, or read more like responsibilities than accomplishments? Concrete examples of how to improve them would be especially useful.
  4. Summary and skills: Is the summary earning its space? Are my skills organized appropriately, or should I simplify the categories further?
  5. Overall positioning: Does the resume present a coherent junior/full-stack software engineering candidate, or are there any significant credibility concerns, confusing claims, or gaps in the narrative?
  6. Priorities: If you were reviewing this resume for a junior software engineering position, what are the three highest-impact changes you'd make first?

I'm primarily looking for feedback on content, clarity, credibility, and how effectively the resume communicates my technical experience. I understand that some of my formatting and structural choices are deliberate, but I'm open to reconsidering them if they are hurting the resume.

Thanks for taking the time to review it.

Mechanical [Student] 3rd yr Mech E - looking for resume advice for summer internships in aerospace, energy, material testing, etc.

Hi everyone! I am a 3rd-year Mech E student, recently transferred from a California Community College, looking to refine my resume for Summer 2027 internship applications. I am located in central Orange County; therefore, I am mainly looking for opportunities in OC, but I am open to anywhere in Southern California, including San Diego and LA counties.

My main concern is my resume feels too long without saying much. I tried using the STAR method for each bullet, but everything still feels very superficial. I am struggling to explain my contributions in more detail without needing a second page.

I'd appreciate feedback on my project and research descriptions and overall layout. I am also wondering if I should include relevant coursework and scholarships won. Other skills like being bilingual, Microsoft and Google workspace, or are these too obvious and expected? Another thought I have is: to save space should I remove the company/program/school/academy name and location?

I would appreciate any feedback!!

Mechanical [0 YOE] What can I change to start getting interviews for new-grad roles? I haven't had any luck with landing interviews :(

Hi folks, I posted here a few years ago when I was searching for internships, and I got a ton of advice which allowed me to land an internship! Now, I've come back to see if there's anything I should change about my resume. I already tweaked some things and got it down to 1 page, but I've applied to maybe ~100 roles and haven't gotten any interviews, so clearly I've got some ways to go. I'm currently in my last year of uni, set to graduate in the summer, but I'm applying for new grad roles early, so I don't have to experience unemployment for too long 😭. Please let me know if you've got any suggestions for my resume. Thanks!

Mechanical [Student] Mechanical Engineering Resume Review – Not Getting Internship Responses

I've been applying to Summer 2027 engineering internships but haven't had much luck getting responses, so I'm looking for honest feedback on my resume.

I'm targeting mechanical design, robotics, aerospace, hardware engineering, and test engineering internships. I'm based in the US and open to relocating for onsite positions.

My background includes hands-on CAD, mechanical design, FEA, prototyping, Formula SAE, competitive robotics, and personal engineering projects. I've been trying to highlight my technical experience and project work, but I'm not sure whether my bullet points effectively communicate my contributions or demonstrate enough impact.

I'd appreciate feedback on my experience section, project descriptions, technical skills, and overall formatting. Specifically, I'd like to know if anything stands out as weak, unclear, or potentially hurting my chances of getting interviews.

I'm a US citizen and do not require visa sponsorship.

Thank you for any feedback!

Chemical [Student] looking for advice on how to improve my resume. I have no prior experience through an internship.

Currently, my main experiment is still in progress. I will likely be doing a poster in early December, but have to finalize that as my experiment is not yet finished. Otherwise, unsure as to what I should add/remove/reformat as this is most, if not all of my ChemE related experience. I do also try to tailor resumes to each job posting.

Software [5 YoE] PHP/Laravel Backend Developer Seeking Remote Roles in Europe/US - Looking for Honest CV Feedback

Hi everyone!

I'm a PHP/Laravel backend developer based in Azerbaijan, with over 5 years of full-time experience since March 2021. Most of my experience involves building and maintaining backend systems for advertising platforms, e-commerce applications, and client websites.

I'm currently looking for remote PHP/backend developer positions, primarily with European or US companies. I'm open to PHP roles in general, not just Laravel-specific ones.

I've only applied to two positions so far. One rejected my application, and I haven't heard back from the other. I realize that's too small a sample to draw conclusions, but I'd like to get some feedback on my CV before applying more widely.

I'd particularly appreciate feedback on:

  • Does my CV reflect my experience level, or does it make me look too junior?
  • Are my work experience and project descriptions clear and convincing?
  • Is the overall structure professional and easy to read?
  • Are there any red flags or unnecessary details?
  • What would you improve before applying for mid-level backend developer positions?

I'm only looking for remote opportunities and would be working from Azerbaijan.

Honest and constructive criticism is welcome. Thanks in advance!

Chemical [Student] Chemical engineering Junior looking for resume critiques. Especially looking for advice on experience descriptions and "Activities and Honors" section.

I am a chemical engineering student looking to apply to summer internships or part time co-ops for this spring. I'm looking to work in-person in NJ or surrounding states, but willing to relocate further if necessary. I'm feeling a little behind as I didn't have an engineering internship last summer and a couple friends already have offers for this summer. Any advice is appreciated, but I'm especially looking for critiques on my:

- "Activities and Honors" section (bullets, dates, positions)
- Experience bullet points (order, wording, length, etc.)

The research is a little bit fluffy right now, but that is only since they just started fairly recently. I will have it more technical and specific as to what my team and I do by the time I apply! Any advice is much appreciated!

Electrical/Computer [Student] Final-year Computer Engineering student seeking feedback for robotics, embedded software and cybersecurity internships

Hi all,

I’m a final-year Computer Engineering student in Romania (graduating June 2027), looking for internships in robotics, embedded software or cybersecurity. Robotics is the area I’m most drawn to. I’m applying only to roles in my city or fully remote, since I’m still in university and can’t relocate.

My only paid technical experience is a short HPC internship at a research institute. Everything else comes from personal and university projects. Over the past few months I’ve applied to around 30 internships and gotten only 1 interview, mostly rejections without a response. I’d like to understand whether the resume is the problem or whether I’m missing experience.

Specific feedback I’m looking for:

  • Do my projects read as strong enough for robotics, embedded and security roles, and how could I present them better?
  • What should I build or learn next to be more competitive? For robotics, I’ve started working with ROS 2. For security, I’m on TryHackMe’s SOC Level 1 path.
  • Is anything in the formatting or wording hurting my chances?

Thanks!

Software [6 YoE] C#/.NET desktop engineer pivoting to ASP.NET Core backend roles – resume review

I'm a C#/.NET engineer with ~6 years of experience, mostly Windows desktop and SDK work, now targeting ASP.NET Core backend roles. I have no production ASP.NET Core experience yet.

I created and tailored my resume mainly with ChatGPT and Claude.
I got a couple of interviews last months.
But I didn't have any reply for a month now.
My Concern and fear that I am depending on AI too much, I want real human feedback, I feel like I am going crazy with all these wordings and metrics.

I'm a C#/.NET engineer with about 6 years of experience, mostly Windows desktop and SDK work. I'm now trying to move into ASP.NET Core backend roles. I don't have production ASP.NET Core experience yet, but I've been building a backend project on my own to cover that.

I wrote and tailored my resume mostly with ChatGPT and Claude. It got me a couple of interviews a few months ago, but I haven't heard back from anyone in the last month.

I'm worried I've leaned on AI too much and that the wording and metrics now read as overdone. I've been staring at it so long that I can't judge it anymore, so I'd really like feedback from real people.

What I'd most like to know:

- Does it read as natural, or does it sound like AI wrote it?

- Are the bullets and numbers believable and clear, or too much?

- How can I present my desktop/SDK experience so it makes sense for backend roles?

Thanks for taking the time.

Software [Student] CS and EE junior struggling with getting internships. Is my resume the problem?

Am I splitting myself too thin applying to both software and electrial engineering positions. My resume and experience is more suited for SWE and ML roles but I've heard EE is less competitive. I'm an international student at a large state school (T200). Any help or comments about the resume would be appreciated. Trying to figure out an application strategy

Software [15 YOE] Senior Software Engineer looking to get feedback on resume where AI was used for wordsmithing

As the title said I used Claude to create my resume using one I wrote manually as a base. I feel like it is better, but I wanted to get other opinions before using it out in the wild. It's very different than what I had.

In terms of issues I have been having a hard time getting interviews. I apply to tech companies and never hear back from recruiters. LinkedIn recruiters reaching out has pretty much dried up as well. So that's when I figured it was time for an overhaul to the resume. I don't have connections at these companies so it's down to applying on the website for me.

I'm looking for IC roles at actual tech companies that create a physical products, think of smart devices, wearables, and autonomous vehicles. I would like to stay out of medical device companies. I know that is all of my experience, but I want to do something different then a highly regulated industry.

I don't need to work on the secret sauce at a company as I'm fine working at say Apple on gluing data together for a smart watch or taking algorithms create by a data scientist to measure heart rate on a smartwatch and making it real. So it can still be health related, but I don't really want to go full stop medical device company like Abbott.

I also don't need to be a lead or Senior SWE. I'm fine taking a down level if it means getting in to an actual tech company. Money is unlikely to be an issue as looking on Levely.fyi new grads at tech companies make more than that 110K I got as a salary at my last job.

I'm open to remote or on-site roles. I have no problem going in to the office 5-days per-week. I cannot relocated to just anywhere though. Long story short relocation would be restricted to companies in NorCal as family has a say in where we move to.

I was born in the USA so no issues with visas or anything like that.

Some notes about my resume to head off potential comments:

  • Any metrics I have has been added. Claude asked about the same thing and I worked with it the best I could to come up with numbers, but it was not meant to be. I worked at a private non-tech company in non-tech city for my entire career and they did not do lots of metrics. It was a very top down manamgent style. These are the priorities, your input is appreciated but don't work on them unless it's deemed priority by manamgent.
  • I was at the same company for my entire career. So the 3 roles I have had was really just promotions within the same company.
  • A couple lines had to be edited because the mods removed my first post because of "Spilled Bullets". I basically removed information to make the lines not spill, because adding fluff words to bulk up the line felt weird. I wanted bullets to read as concise as I can make it, which may not actually be considered concise by an independent reader.

Thank you for any comments ahead of time.

Civil [Student] 2nd year Civil Engineering looking for feedback before applying to internships

Title says it all, but to say it again, I am a 2nd year civil engineering student at a UC wondering if there are any major changes I need to make before I start applying. I'm hopefully aiming to get an internship in transportation engineering but I'm just starting out, so I'm not picky. My biggest worry is about my Work Experience section since my only actual job, I only had for a month before I was laid off (it was a small start up that ended up closing months after i was laid off). I get that I can talk about what really happened in interviews but I'm afraid that it will be seen as a red flag before I even get to the interview. Besides that it's really only been babysitting for family which I have been paid for, but it's admittedly pretty weak. Thank you for reading, any help is appreciated!

Software [4 YoE] Software Engineer looking for feedback. 0 interviews in 6 months and Looking for feedback.

~4 YOE full-stack software engineer looking for mid-level full-stack/product engineering roles. I’ve mainly worked with React, TypeScript, Python, and PostgreSQL across frontend, backend, APIs, and data-heavy applications.

I’ve been job searching for ~6 months and my interview rate has been abysmal, I've been continually adjusting my resume to no success other than recruiters reaching out to me on LinkedIn so I would really appreciate an outside opinion and more sets of eyes. I am currently targeting remote roles as the city I live in is a tech desert. I can't move to another city right now because I am locked into a lease until next summer with my girlfriend.

Specific Q's:

- Does my experience read as solid mid-level SWE experience?

- Are the bullets too detailed/technical, or do they communicate impact well?

- Is there anything here that jumps out at you that might explain a low response rate from recruiters?

- Do you have anything encouraging to say about this? This has been pretty demoralizing haha.

Please be constructive, but looking for honest feedback. Thanks in advance for taking a look!

Mechanical [0 YoE] 150+ Applications, 0 Interviews. Good idea to learn code to enter Controls/Systems/Automation side to engineering?

May I have feedback on my CV?

Used to catalogue via gmail but stopped counting no. applications sent, apply and tailoring to design/mechanical/energy-based engineering graduate/entry roles thus far. Only one-sided AI/self-recorded interviews if at all (1/2 if graduate programme, 0 if entry-level job). The uploaded CV you see is the general version.

I have attended the university's graduate support programme's 1-to-1 CV review session; apparently my CV is good...

I am, however, currently developing more skills (starting with freeCodeCamp's python course) to tailor my CV in a more hyperspecific way for either automation/controls/systems; is this a good idea?

I have also been advised to keep slinging my CV...

Thank you for reading.

Mechanical [0 YoE] Recent Mechanical Engineering grad seeking resume help and if personal projects for portfolio building would help.

Hi all,

I am currently targeting pretty much engineering role at this point (field, civil, mechanical, or project). I would prefer design/analysis, but I don't believe I have the experience to land that currently.

I am located on the west coast in the U.S and am open to moving pretty much anywhere for work. I have applied in CA, NV, WA, OR, CO, and TX.

I currently work for a coffee shop and have been pretty much through my entire college years in order to help pay for rent and etc. That however limited what I could do in terms of extracurriculars to help build my engineering experience.

I've been applying for about a month and have not landed a single interview and only received rejection emails.

I would like feedback on my resume and if it would be a good idea to try and do personal projects to build a portfolio, since at this point my only engineering experience is my senior project.

Software [Student] Looking for advice on resume, only got 2 interview responses out of 100+ applications

Hello, I'm looking for a fresh set of eyes to review my resume. I'm currently a student located in the northeast US, that's set to graduate in January of 2027, and I'm looking for new grad full-stack engineering roles in the US, but I've only gotten 2 interviews out of 100+ applications. Could it be my bullet points are not concise enough? I am willing to relocate anywhere in the US. Any feedback on my resume is appreciated.

Other [2 YoE] Desktop Engineer looking to get some feedback - looking to get back into defense again

Some info

  • Located in Los Angeles
  • Remote jobs would be nice but local is fine. Would prefer to stay in LA

Was let go from the defense company almost a year ago and the resume I was running with was terrible, got maybe 4 interviews before I just took the school district job, which I regretted.

Re-did the resume following the wiki and this is what I have so far, any feedback would be greatly appreciated

I enjoyed the time at defense since I learned a lot while I was there.

I am citizen, jobs that require that I do add next to the email

I would like to pivot into software engineering or stick with Systems/IT.

I also have job fit project but left it out because I have no github repo and I vibe coded most of it. Python backend, GO api, vite frontend.

Electrical/Computer [1 YoE] | Bay Area | Electrical Engineering | Masters Student | Advice on resume to land FAANG Interviews

Coming in 1 year of experience, currently doing my masters in IC design. I'm trying to land a FAANG position relatively early in my career. My dream job is google. I know many say to be specific on exactly what I want to do but I'm not to picky, anyway to get into the company I would be happy but I'm trying to gain skills in FPGA and ASIC design during my masters but I don't have the experience to apply to those positions yet.

Anyways, what can I do to improve my resume getting past the initial screening. I've been applying to multiple FAANG, and non-FAANG companies and I barely get past the initial resume screen.

Mechanical [0 YOE] Upcoming Mechanical Engineer Graduate (Spring 2027) with Updated Resume Seeking a Full-Time Role in the Medical Device Industry

Hello, everyone. I am an upcoming mechanical engineering graduate based in the US. I'm currently in the process of applying to jobs, and I'm looking for ways in which I can improve my resume to increase my chances of getting interviews. I really want to enter the medical device industry as a product designer and ideally work for companies like Intuitive, J&J, BD, Stryker, VB Spine, and Medtronic. I would also be open to getting a role in underwater robotics companies, though that field seems more niche and defense-based (an industry I want to avoid).

I am generally open to relocating, but I ideally want to live in a large metropolitan area in the same geographical region I am currently in, so I have been a bit picky about where I apply.

I also want to add that I have previously posted on this sub and have since edited my resume using the wiki and comment suggestions. I mainly want to see if there's anything else I should change regarding the content. The biggest change I made was adding a few projects and removing my past tutoring experience. Would this resume now suffice for most online new grad applications?
