Introducing Upriver News, a free daily local newsletter for Enfield and neighboring towns
Hey r/EnfieldCT,
I'm Josh, I moved to Enfield recently and started a free daily newsletter called Upriver News. It covers Enfield, Suffield, Somers, East Windsor and Windsor Locks. Thanks to the mods for letting me post this.
It's mostly the stuff that's hard to keep track of: town meetings, school board news, elections (there's a Nov. 3 voter guide up now), road closures, local jobs, community events, high school scores, plus a little local history every day.
I want to be upfront that I use AI tools to help monitor public sources like agendas, minutes and town notices, and to draft summaries of them. I check every story against the original source and approve everything myself before it goes out. Nothing goes out unreviewed.
I also know AI is a sensitive topic, especially for journalists. A lot of good reporters lost their jobs, and towns like ours have lost local coverage. This isn't meant to replace anyone, but instead fill in the hole of missing local news coverage. It can't go to meetings or interview people; it just makes sure the public record gets read. If you're a local reporter or freelancer, I'd love to hear from you, even if it's criticism.
It's at upriverlocal.substack.com. Tips, corrections or complaints go to [upriverdaily@gmail.com](mailto:upriverdaily@gmail.com). If I get something wrong, tell me and I'll fix it.
Thanks all!
