Discussion Did you ever expect Endfield to have more RTS/TD elements than it does, and would you like to see more of it in the future or not?
Just curious. Body text is just for a bit more context.
When I first learned that Endfield will have a mix of action, factory sim, base expansion, and towers, I was beyond stoked! I already liked og AK’s Tower Defense, but combining it with base building/expansion, in a full 3D environment, and you get to play as a squad on the field?? In the Arknights universe??? Say no more. At least that was my reaction in the very early trailers lol.
Alas, RTS elements are near non-existent. I had placed hopes on the Tower Defense aspects, but it’s been really bare-bones.
So when YouTubers started calling Endfield a Real Time Strategy RPG when it released, I was confused, a bit frustrated, but it also kept the hopium alive for future RTS/TD aspects (even if it may have been a marketing script error in hindsight). Something that mixes these wildly different game genres into something new and innovative, in a gacha space nonetheless.
They have teased a future mode called Shattered Protocol, but there’s practically no info on it yet, other than maybe being a rogue-like. Imma huff hopium anyways that maybe it’ll have more RTS/TD elements lol.
Anyway, lately, there has been a mild resurgence in popularity for RTS games, a genre many thought was dying. With games like Warhammer: DoW4 releasing soon, ZeroSpace showing promise, and the legendary Warcraft 3 getting a whole campaign update in 23 years(!), it got me thinking, hey, maybe RTS isn’t lost in the modern gaming audience after all?
So, I wonder how big or small the overlap between Endfield and RTS games is in the playerbase/community, and if there is or isn’t a market for it here currently?
Feel free to share your reasons, or even ideas how it could look like for Endfield, in the comments!
