Question How am I doing ?

Post image

I bought a $3 kit at hobby lobby to give me something to do. First time trying. How am I doing? Any feedback will help. And honestly the white threading had been the hardest so far. Also any recommendations on starter kits

It looks great! Couple things .. Keeping your fabric nice and taught will allows you to make cleaner stitches and keep it nice and tight. When tightening the fabric in the hoop, I always think of keeping it as taught as a drum.
Also, it looks like you’re using a lot of strands (possibly all 6), does the kit specify you should only use a certain number of threads? That is probably why it is difficult to do the white on top.

Thank you! The kit gave no instructions. I went off what the picture looked like. (It’s one of the seasonal kits). I had no idea you can separate the threads until I watched a video on YouTube. Once I learned that, it was life changing lol 😅

If you decide to keep at it, try a plastic hoop. They have an extra ridge on the inside that helps cinch the fabric tighter.

This happens to literally everyone! You start and it’s like I don’t think they sent enough floss but it’s mind blowing when you figure it out.

I came here to say the exact same thing. I like how you worded it though. Mine would NOT have been that concise

Keep it under tension and it'll be a lot easier to deal with. Very loose. Pull the fabric tight, then tighten the screw at the top.

Lokks great though!

Your stitching on your flowers is very nice and neat, well done, and you have a good knack for french knots. Your wagon wheel looks good, and your satin stitches on the wheel barrow are very nice and straight. As others have noted, as soon as you start working with fewer strands of floss, everything will be able to accommodate finer detail and be less chunky. Overall, a great first effort! Please continue to come back and post your new projects!

Thank you so much for the feedback. I really appreciate it. I started working on something else last night. Will post once I’m done.

If at some point in the future you are looking for some great kits, I can highly recommend Jessica Long Embroidery. The kits come with everything you need for a complete project; needles, hoop, floss, fabric, and detailed instructions. She sells kits for all skill levels and has some super cute stuff.

Looks good for your first time! I bet for everyone who did embrodiery for the first time, their pieces were a little wonky!

I might suggest you keep the fabric taught (tight as a drum!) and maybe use 1 to 2 strands of floss unless the pattern calls for it otherwise!

It’s cute! Looks like something my grandma would put on a sweater 😊
