What was Handel thinking of, making the part of David in Saul counter-tenor?
...it sounds so weird, and so wrong. Heroes are tenor!...For me it's close to spoiling the whole thing.
Saul himself is bass, so it wouldn't have clashed with that.
Edit: please, can we not have this childish knee-jerk reaction where no criticism of any composer is allowed...?

Does anyone here know about the Rauschpfeife?
I know this post tends toward appreciation rather than technique, but I'm also assuming a good chunk of the followers also play early music. I have several questions about the Rauschpfeife and am looking for people who understand this instrument.

Rauschpfeife reeds
Does anyone here play the Rauschpfeife? The reed situation is driving me crazy. Like, why do plastic bagpipe reeds change the scale from diatonic to chromatic? This makes no sense in terms of physics! And for cane reeds that do work, the scale changes wildly from reed to reed, and even from a wetter to dryer reed.

Renaissance music on a retuned Lavachord: Mudarra’s Pavana de Alexandre
Someone who saw my Lavachord videos suggested this piece, so I recorded an interpretation of Alonso Mudarra’s Pavana de Alexandre, with some improvisation around the theme.
The Lavachord is a small acoustic keyboard that I can retune. For this recording, I used a custom temperament with thirds closer to just intervals, leaning toward the sound of meantone. I took some liberties with the piece, exploring its harmonies through the tuning and the instrument’s resonance.
What other Renaissance pieces would you be curious to hear on an instrument like this?

Hans Neusidler - Ein Welscher Tantz Wascha Mesa & Der Hupff Auff, Renaissance Lute (Antoine Pansera)
youtube.comA little German Renaissance repertoire... A piece by Hans Neusidler that begins gently in duple meter, before moving into a much livelier variation in triple meter.

I wrote a fugue on Happy Birthday in the style of Bach (again)
youtu.beBWV 1080 might be my favourite collection of harpsichord pieces ever. So of course I had to write a fugue on Happy Birthday in the style of Contrapunctus 2.
