Art Bree, Halfling Druid
Bree, 12 by 16, fluid acrylics on vellum illustration board.
Illustrated this for one of my dnd friends. This is her character Bree, who is a Halfing druid. The turnip is Buddy, forgot what his whole deal is. My Mom told me that I actually illustrated a raddish, I hope that’s ok, it technically is still a root vegetable 😂
This is one of the rare occasions that I post a photo rather than a scan. I did scan this piece, but I prefer how the photo looks. The colors turned out too dark and saturated in the scan.
This is the last of the dnd illustrations for awhile, although I do like the style I used on them and using multiple references. I plan on continuing using these techniques on future artworks. Realism can inform fantasy/ cartooning and vice versa. Both are allowing me to progress as an artist.

Advice/Help Needed What does a complete Dungeons and Dragons Basic Rules Set 1 TSR 1983 contain?
Hello all, hoping someone can help.
If you'll indulge me, I'd like to tell a cautionary tale of regret, loss and hope of redemption.
Many years ago when the aforementioned set came out, I encouraged my younger brother to purchase this set with his birthday money. We were probably 11 and 13. My brother trusted me so much. He bought it and was excited to play it. We got home and he asked me to play. I said "later".
A week or so went by and my brother said to our mother, "I'm bored", mum said "why don't you play your new game?" with great frustration and sadness my brother said "but <my name> won't play it with me!" I tried playing it and realised I didn't understand it and in those days there was no one readily available to ask. We never played that game.
In my early 20's I was catching up with friends from high school and we started playing a tabletop role playing game. That group remained friends and caught up regularly for the next 40 years watching movies or just chatting. One of those friends passed away a few weeks ago. Taken too soon. Since then I have been wracked with guilt and loss realising that our time on Earth is finite, you never know when the end is and if there are things that need to be set right you have to do them now, not "later".
To that end I have recently found out there is a local store that allows you to book a table top role playing game for a few hours. They provide the dungeon master and you provide the players. I would like to try and make up for no being a brother when I should have been.
I want to get hold of Dungeons and Dragons Basic Rules Set 1 TSR 1983 and invite my brother and few of our friends to play one of these hosted sessions. None of us are seasoned players so a starter set should be right for us.
Ebay has a few of these sets but some are often incomplete. What I don't know is what is supposed to be in these sets. They seem to have some collector value and I don't want to spring for a mint set and then wreck it's "mintness" by opening the dice bag. I'm happy with a used set but I'd like it to be at least complete.
Is there someone here who could give me an inventory of what should be in the box?
I'd be most grateful.
Thanks for listening to my story.

Advice/Help Needed Maori inspired character
Hello there, I had a creative moment and felt like making a new char again. It's been 6 years since my last actual build and I like some help getting started yet again. Love to keep the 2014 rules please.
So my idea was a lvl 5 path of the ancestral guardian barb/war domain cleric. "Brass" knuckle Busters made of New Zealand Jade (or an glaive/axe). Or make the knuckle busters a magical item perhaps 🤔
I'm not sure what race I should choose with this setup. Ideas are most welcome.
Thank you for helping me out :)

Discussion Heroic Round guy
I can’t put my finger on why this guy irritates me. Does he give good advice? Yes, often.
Is there something annoying about him? Also yes.

Looking For Group Looking for an in-person D&D group in the Jackson, MS metro area!
I’m relatively new to tabletop D&D. I’ve played Baldur’s Gate 3 and have been enjoying a long-running campaign with an AI DM, but I’d really like to experience a proper tabletop game with other players and a human Dungeon Master.
I’m looking for a beginner-friendly, casual D&D 5e group that meets on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday evenings, ideally around 7–10 PM. I’m open to one-shots, joining an existing campaign, or helping get a new group together.
I enjoy a good mix of roleplaying, combat, exploration, and character development. Happy to learn the rules and work with whatever character fits the party.
If anyone has room at their table or knows a DM looking for players, I’d love to hear from you!

Art Town Jail - Cinematic View and Battlemap - MBBT Free
There are just so many laws around here, how was the party suppose to know about the 'Unattended Spoon Law from the incident of 1386'. However, they should have known fighting the guards was illegal.
This release is something that can get more use than the party plans for, A Jail and Prison scene.
Town Jail and Prison Scene List
Jail Main Room - Regular+Bloody Escape
Jail Cell - Regular+Bloody Escape
Prison Main Hall - Regular+Bloody Escape
Prison Cell - Regular+Bloody Escape

Advice/Help Needed Need ideas for my kiddo
My 11 year old is just getting into D&D and I’d like to get him cool gifts related to the game and/or fantasy games and books that are similar (he loved LOTR and going to the Renaissance Festival this year). He already has a beginner handbook and dice set. He has a friend who just started a club at his house on Friday nights.
Any advice is super appreciated!

OC New cookbook recipes!
Absolutely delicious!! Note before anything else, I didn't have any fresh sage leaves so I used ground sage instead, so the taste for the first dish might be different
Otto's irresistible noodles: 7/10, solid recipe, never enough parmesan
Honey flame bread: 8.5/10, made these recipes yesterday and it's already gone
Cookbook: Heroes' feast: Legends of the Table

OC [OC] [COMM] Make assumptions about my Changeling Witch and her Bird Familiar!
I just created this character for a player that requested a changeling witch with a massive bird familiar. The bird is blinded by a cloth to keep it at bay, only released to attack and reach hard places.
It often rests on the witch’s legs, that explains the scars she proudly shows off.
she casts spells using these rune-engraved orb tied to a rope, swinging them around like a church censer while chanting, using her familiar’s magical feathers to channel her magic.
spent a bit struggling with the pose & picking the right colors, but super proud of how she turned out. I love the blue and purple combo that gives that magical but evil effect

Advice/Help Needed is online d&d worth playing?
hey all, not sure if this is the right place to post this but i have a few questions, and i feel as id get the best answers here.
recently ive been itching to play in a campaign as its been over a year since the last time ive played. my last campaign was a homebrew that my childhood best friend DMd alongside some of our friends. the game lasted about 14 months with consistent weekly sessions. as i stated, its been over a year since then, and my friend has not began his new campaign as it’s not finished, according to him. because of that, i have been considering playing online on Roll20. i have no experience playing online, or with new players, really- so its a bit intimidating. i’m used to homebrew campaigns that last a while but im unsure if this would be the case on Roll20 as it seems they’re all following modules. i would like to know if this is something worthwhile. is there anything i need to know beforehand?
i understand that each session comes with a paywall- which at this point isn’t a concern as i really miss playing. any advice on what i can do and or expect? i’d like to know your experiences with playing online before jumping in. thanks

My Pokémon-inspired Weapons and Items of the Day, with a Peakychu cloak to feel the electricity around you!
Join my Patreon to vote on future items and get all the PDFs with over 1000 items, including all the Pokémon items, or buy the individual PDFs in my shop!
025P - Pallicappa
Wondrous (Cloak) – Rare (520 gp, requires attunement)
This delicate pale yellow cloak has a hood with a pleated edge, a sheet of thick fur wrapped around the shoulders, and hand slits that can be opened and closed. A ribbon bow with pastel pink leafs and pale brown tips keeps the cloak secure around the collar.
While attuned to this cloak: you gain the ability to sense electricity with a range of 30 feet, which acts similar to blindsight; you can speak a command word to make the cloak spark with electricity, which emits normal light for 20 feet and dim light for another 20 feet; and once per day you can cast Call Lightning, DC 13.

Discussion The Perfect System and Setting Agnostic B Plot: Politics!
Well, it doesn't happen as often as it used to, but I recently found myself enamoured with a video game. Last time it happened, near the beginning of the year I think, the game in question was Cyberpunk. This time it's all about Suzerain.
For those of you who don't know, Suzerain is a political simulator visual novel that puts you in the shoes of Anton Rayne, the newly ellected 4th president of the Republic of Sordland. The country is on the precipise of economical collapse, internal political tensions and external threats of both military and economical war. You are in charge of navigating this environment and you have a somewhat free hand to do so in a multitude of way, as you can try and be a reformist, a traditionalist, left wing, right wing even a full blown dictator.
So I am having a good time with the game, "what's any of that have to do with TTRPGs?", I hear you ask. Well, as I tend to do with most media I enjoy, I quickly started to think of ways in which I can bring the things I like about this game into the games I run.
This article is the result of that particular thought excercise and the answer I arrived at is, if you will indulge some degree of self flattery, as simple as it is brilliant. Have politics be a B plot for your games. With factions, with a main conflict and all the song and dance. But not in the limelight. The players go about their adventuring, and from time to time they get offered a job by one faction or another and by doing said jobs they tip the scales of power.
I go into quite a lot of detail on how you should go about making this work and making the most out of it and honestly, I think most of you will like it! At least I hope you do! Till the next time, thank you for reading and have a wonderful weekend! Cheers!

Homebrew The Headless Horseman! A CR 14 Undead for Your Halloween Encounters
The Headless Horseman is more than just an undead rider with a flaming pumpkin for a head. He's a vengeful spirit bound to the mortal world by an ancient curse, with his steed, armored body, and spectral jack-o'-lantern forming a single, inseparable entity.
Legends tell of a fallen soldier, executioner, or knight who was beheaded for his crimes and returned under a cursed harvest moon. Some believe his spirit is connected to Samhain, when the boundary between the living and the dead grows thin enough for restless spirits to cross.
Wherever he rides, crops rot, animals panic, and the air fills with the smell of smoke and freshly dug earth. And simply defeating him isn't enough. Unless a specific funerary ritual is performed, the Horseman eventually rises again to continue his hunt.
Mechanically, the Headless Horseman is a CR 14 undead built around mobility, relentless pursuit, and devastating attacks. His Fiery Greataxe deals slashing and fire damage, with additional necrotic damage against frightened enemies, while Laughing Skull allows him to hurl his flaming pumpkin head at enemies, unleashing a fiery explosion that deals 10d6 fire damage.
His Ghostride ability lets him pass through solid objects, while his legendary actions allow him to charge across the battlefield, stun enemies with Glare of Embers, or mark a target with Harvest Mark, making that creature especially vulnerable to his attacks.
I've also included four optional traits to customize the encounter, from leaving burning hoofprints behind to relentlessly tracking creatures that try to escape him.
The Headless Horseman is from Undead & Undead: The Ultimate Undead Handbook, available for 5E and the 2024 Edition on DriveThruRPG!
The manual includes 90+ undead statblocks, each with optional traits and variants, alongside an undead lair system, 50+ magic items, customizable templates, necromantic rituals, campaign tools, and VTT resources. It's designed to give DMs plenty of options for building undead encounters, from minor restless spirits to powerful necromantic horrors.
My Kickstarter for 300+ Mythological Items for 5E and 2024 is also live now! The campaign includes a physical hardcover, as well as printed editions of my previous manuals.
You can find more of my creatures, magic items, and manuals on DriveThruRPG, my Linktree, or over at r/JonnyDM!

Homebrew A little update on my Foundry project
I love playing online, but I miss rolling actual dice with friends. That’s why I’m building DiceHub: roll physical dice using your phone or webcam, send the result to Foundry, and let the table watch the roll live.
This update brings faster readings, a smaller draggable tray, and some extra drama for those natural 20s… and 1s

Suggestion Ideas for making tempting red herrings for this scenario?
WARNING! THIS COVERS R-RATED TOPICS! VIEWER DISCRETION IS ADVISED!
In the campaign I'm writing, there is a large conspiracy going on between a seemingly idealistic fantasy kingdom and two other political entities, a underground Drow realm and a Hobgoblin nation. Both of which rely on slavery For many years, there has been a fragile peace treaty between the Kingdom and these tyrannical entities, but the terms of the treaty are that the Kingdom has to give a few of it's people to the Drow and Hobgoblins as slaves. As a result, all 3 political entities run a secret human trafficking circle.
But VERY long story short, the deal has gone sour, and the Drow and Hobgoblins have joined together along with a faction of Demons and Undead to wage war on the Kingdom. Only 4 people know of the conspiracy.
- The King. He didn't start this, he's just continuing the peace his predecessors started. Unfortunately, he is dead by the time this all starts. A consequence of the deal going sour.
- The head of the Kingdoms spy network, and the secondary villain of the campaign. Unlike the King, he is a well intentioned extremist, this guy is pure evil. Under his management, all the Kingdoms spies work for him instead of the realm and are manipulating victims into trusting them, like real life traffickers. Something else you should know, is that he is secretly a Lich.
- The Warden of the capital cities prison. Many of the citizens sold into slavery are prison inmates, so the Warden is in on this. He uses his position to cover tracks by making prisoners scheduled for slavery think this is merely a prison transfer. He's also a well intentioned extremist.
- The head of the Kingdoms law department (the equivalent of a real life Chief Justice) She is actually an undercover spy working for people who are wondering why they have lost contact with their friends and loved ones. So she's a GOOD GUY. Her position as a judge gives her access to info on who's been sent to the prison, and allows her close contact with the King. Hence how she found some secret letters. Unfortunately, she can't do any action openly because she has to keep up appearances. So she sends messages to anonymous sources, but they've all gone dark. That could be where PC's come in.
Now, in the possible scenario where PC's are investigating the Palace and members of the Royal Council (which the Lich and Judge are members of) to find out if one of them was behind the attack at the start of the story, they could potentially figure this all out. But I'm hoping to reveal the Lich later down the line and to that end, he's trying to fool PC's by making them think his personal servant and ward is behind this. And I'm trying to make the Lich look like a Red Herring. I have just programmed in a possible event where the Judge tells the PC's what she's learned. By this point, the PC's will likely know that the head of the spy department is a shady person and information is his "life". So if they confront the spymaster about this, what way could he try to shift the blame to his servant?
FYI, the servant is an orphaned girl he adopted as his ward. In return for her service, he pays for her to have an education as a magic school. And by plot convenience, she is quite good at teleportation magic, and has studied fiends and dark magic. I want PC's to think she's evil, but in truth, she's studying fiends and dark magic to get good at countering it.
