We all love DCC, but let’s be honest: not every criticism is unfair. Some complaints are just wrong, but others are valid and fans tend to wave them off. Which ones do you actually agree with? For me it's these ones:

Constant Deus Ex Machinas: yes, Carl and Donut get saved by pulling things out of their ass constantly, specially when Samantha is involved. There is a reason the Book of Voodoo is being called the Book of Deus Ex Machina spells. But you know, sometimes it's less about IF they get out of a situation but HOW they do it.

Pop Culture references that make Ready Player One blush: when was the last Inuyasha was relevant? If you don't play Magic the Gathering and/or Yu-gi-oh! the card game will be confusing. Gossip Girl is different than Gilmore Girls and it IS Hi-Yo Silver! Yeah, they can get annoying, if you're looking for them, but as someone who uses examples to explain things, having the references work.

The humor is very childish: YES AND I LOVE IT! Nut shots, middle fingers, innuendos, that's grade school humor, but it contrasts a lot with blood, gore and serious moments when several things happen at once. It can be a deterrent for me to recommend to people, Samantha is just a sex-joke generator and Matt gets paid by catchprase, but I laughed HARD when robo-Donut said she loves lasagna and hates Mondays... which is also a Pop Culture Reference.

I haven’t seen anything about this online. Just saw it on display today. Is it new?

It looks like we're getting a dungeon crawler carl comic book around in January

I'm always thinking about what Carl might unleash or find a use for. What are your favorites, and what am I missing?

PLEASE i have to talk about it here because nobody I know reads DCC. These are the ramblings of a crazed lesbian (me)

IM SO WORRIED ABOUT KATIA! She’s my favorite, and I was really hoping she would join back with Carl and Donut by the end of the sixth floor, but alas… that is definitely not happening now. I’m usually not a romance fan but i had been rooting for Carl/Katia (even though i LOVE Bautista, don’t get me wrong). I don’t quite ship them in a traditional sense, but I need them to emotionally lean on each forever and ever.

Katia’s ending bit during the epilogue was SOOO good, it makes me wish she had her own mini series like Florin does. What did she do in her past?? “I DO THAT SOMETIMES. I HURT THOSE AROUND MEEEE”. She’s so complex and we barely know anything about her. I just love seeing her growth from Floor 4 to now. She’s iconic. Her scraps with Eva had me kicking my feet. Girl’s addicted to Blitz Sticks. She’s so me.

And wow Donut made me so sad at the end, when she cries in Carl’s arms. I think of my own kitty (photos attached, her name is June and she would love Donut). I hope Dimitri’s cat is still alive, out there somewhere. Not to mention poor Gravy Boat.

Also RIP Gwen, Firas, and Signet (my baddie) AND MIRIAM DOM :( i don’t like being scared that everyone is going to die (yes I know that will only get worse from here on out).

Was shocked they SKIPPED the 7th floor???? Really satisfying to watch the items from earlier come into play. I like Pony a lot… just wish I knew what the hell is going on with him. Some Plenty nonsense.

I don’t see Dinniman killing Katia off, but with her wearing the Sepsis Whore tiara, I genuinely don’t know how the hell they’re going to pull it off. IM SCARED!

Also note— Carl was written so well this book. That Divine Suffering Ring is going to have its consequences. I liked the allegory with the river, eventually leading to the sink where he found the note (and his mother). I thought the imagery came out of nowhere at first, but it fit the book really well. The payoff with him mentioning the sink to Queen Imogen was something I really enjoyed.

Anyway, I read the entire book in like a week. I bought book 6 yesterday. Giving my brain a break before i dive into it. Book 5 has been the best so far. I’ve seen a few people say Bedlam Bride is their least favorite, but I’ll just have to see for myself.

Sorry this isn’t very eloquent. I promise I’m usually a good writer but I literally just finished the epilogue and I feel like I’m going insane. Please discuss books 1-5 with me below before I start pulling my hair out.

Absolutely NO spoilers for books 6-8 or else I’m killing myself. Genuinely.

I’m starting book 6 now and immediately had to take a deep breath and close it when i saw we open with Odette. WOW. I am not ready!!

Uhhh guys. I just finished up construction of my Enchanted Spiked Kneepads of the Shade Gnoll Riot Forces and now I’m more than a little concerned they aren’t going to let me in any bars with these on….not to even mention the Grull Gauntlet…which is also all metal…

I used a multi-colored flashing light in there for a Desperado Club/Penis Parade atmosphere. Video in comments.

50% of Americans and 60% of Canadians live in the eastern time zone. The greater Toronto area is the most densely populated place in North America. It would have been about 5:30 AM lots of people would have been on their way to work. I am standing at the bus stop at that time.

So why have we not seen any Canadian crawlers or more Eastern Crawlers.

It was about -6c or 20f when the collapse happened. Not that cold by my standards.

I’ve noticed that Matt will use indirect 4th-wall breaks for self critical humor occasionally. A few comments about the iron tangle complexity for sure, but for example in the Bedlam Bride after doughnut goes off on Blue’s Clues:

“Again, Donut,” I said. “I haven’t watched the show, so all this babbling is completely pointless. I don’t know what the hell you’re talking about. That’s the problem with all these references. You’re going to lose people. Now summon the damn seal.”

What other ones have you guys noticed?

My wife surprised me with a tickets to a DCC Lego build night. The theme was Book One and you were given a Carl mini fig you could customize, a base plate piece and access to all their large bins to create your scene.

Setup this week near my hometown community center. I'll never see the circus like I did pre DCC. :)

I finished up book 8 about a month ago after binge reading the entire series! Now finally I had some time to do a fan sculpt of the main duo 😄

I made a few different versions of hair/gear and I should have time to test print it in a week or so for my model displays.

What do you guys think? I had fun figuring out how to get that tortie fur pattern done without it looking like a mess lol. Who else should I make? I want to make a Samantha head too, but I'm not sure where she'd fit on this beside like nomming on Carl's leg.

I have been seeing some people type the name out like "louie" and it just got me thinking lol. I have only read the books, and pronounce it like "lew-iss" but how some other people spell it is it actually pronounced in the audibooks like "lew-ie"?

Also sorry if this has been covered before, I did try to search this sub before asking lol

Thanks for reminding me why I like these crazy books and this fandom lol and thank you for confirming my confusion is stemming from the audibook pronouncing the name differently than i do in my head. Who knew there could be such strong opinions on how to pronounce a fictional character's name 😂
