Hi all,
In the past year, r/donghua has had an explosive growth in users. New reddit functions also brought in new users. To better reflect the userbase and encourage better discussions, we're clarifying a few rules in our subreddit:
On relevant content:
In the past, r/donghua encompasses all aspects of the Chinese animation industry, including outsourced works to anime production and game animation. The industry was small enough to include all those discussions without being overwhelmed. With the rapid growth of the industry, increased international recognition, and r/anime relaxing its rules surrounding anime, we think it is better for the quality of the subreddit to restrict content to series only. Video game animations are more appropriate being posted to gaming related subreddits and anime related posts are more on topic in r/anime.
In general, source material questions are more appropriate for subreddits of their source medium. We don't want people to get spoiled on the front page. Once episode discussion threads are set up, we would like all discussions of that episode to go into that thread, including clips for up to a week. Questions about the source material should be contained in those threads. Top level submissions asking for content beyond donghua adaptation is disallowed, but they can go in the individual discussion threads with appropriate spoiler tagging. Before the bot is set up, you're welcome to start your own discussion thread, but they're limited to one per episode.
On spoiler tagging:
Please spoiler tag your post. We do not need people to get their experiences ruined. Please do not spoil something in your titles. Remember that reddit preview shows body text and will spoil unsuspecting audience. Currently, the mods do courtesy spoiler tagging when they see a post that should be spoilered. The mods see every single submission and get feed the newest spoilers every day. We don't want this to be the experience for the average user. Please report spoilers. We will start handing out temp bans to perm bans for unspoiler tagged posts.
On low effort content:
In an effort to reduce cluttering, low effort content is discouraged. This includes simple image posts, powerscaling, and memes. In the past, users have expressed discontent about these types of content. Powerscaling threads and character comparisons are more appropriate in r/powerscaling or r/characterrant. There are several donghua related memes subreddits. In response to complaints about recommendation posts we started the monthly megathreads and wiki pages. If there are other contents you think shouldn't belong here, please let us know in the comments.
We will allow fan content if its 1) OC 2) substantial in length. This is to discourage karma farming.
For now, we're allowing AI translations. LLM generated content is still generally disallowed. Currently, the subreddit uses a false negative prone AI check, so some AI generated content may slip through. Please report them. Discussion on AI use in donghua is allowed. Currently, episode discussion of AI generated donghua is not allowed, but this may change in the future.
We currently do not have concrete requirements on reviews, but short reactions will be removed for low effort.
On politics:
Donghua is an inherent political industry. While we allow political discussion, it's restricted to donghua related issues only. Offhand comments not related to donghua will be removed. That being said, denial of CCP atrocities is a violation of reddit sitewide rules and will result in an immediate permanent ban on r/donghua.
On fansubs:
We allow the discussions of fansubs, but we do not allow discussions on where to get them. Naming specific fansub groups is okay, but talking about where to get them is not, even for offsite discussions. We understand that not all donghua have good translations, but we also do not want reddit admins banning people. Fansubbers are still welcomed to request special flairs.
On reports
Reports are not a superdownvote option. False reports will result in a ban. Currently, the subreddit has several default spam filter features enabled. This means that mods will have to manually approve posts. However, we're looking to improve this response time. If we're able to expand our mod team, we will be able to switch many of those filters to warnings, thus,
We're recruiting new mods. r/anime mods have been helping out behind the scenes (and one has joined the mod team directly), and we thank them massively for their assistance. If you're interested in applying, submit an application here. Applications are due on June 15th 22nd 2100 Pacific Time. We welcome people of all experiences!

Hello everyone, this is the October monthly megathread for donghua recommendations. Please post any recommendation requests here! Follow all spoiler tagging rules and be civil.
When asking for recommendations, it might be helpful to describe what kind of series you are looking for, and what other series you enjoyed.
When giving recommendations, please explain why you recommend the series.
Starting with donghua? Check out our user curated recommendations wiki. Where to watch donghua? Check out our legal streams list. If you have any suggestions to those wiki pages, please list them below with an explanation on why you recommend it. Submissions with just a title may not be considered.
Longer detailed recommendation requests may be approved as a main topic. If you are just listing a list of donghua you have watched before, you will be directed here. If you're not getting responses in here, you can send us a modmail.

I'm in the 160s episode and I've been having trouble following the story for a while now. Like the story telling or plot scenes just simply disappeared? It's just battles episode after episode. I don't know, maybe it's just me or the subs I'm watching sucks. Anyone else?

I've started watching donghua about half a year ago and have been binging ever since. I watched quite a few titles and seem to be running out of options. Does anyone have any recommendations that may fit me? šš»
I feel like I am about to run out of titles and I am sad haha
Here's what I'm looking for, in order of importance:
- A single male MC. (no female MC or co-leads/ensembles)
- Dark, heavy and serious. No comedy.
- Cultivation or a clear power-leveling system.
- Enemies that are mostly humans or humanoids.
- I definitely prefer 3D animation but A Will Eternal was good.
- Well-paced, with the world actually explained.
- More eps = better
My ranked list (1 = favorite):
A Record of a Mortal's Journey to Immortality
Renegade Immortal
Beyond Time's Gaze
Tales of Herding Gods
Sword of Coming
Stellar Transformation
Against the Gods
Shrouding the Heavens
Swallowed Star
Jade Dynasty
Perfect World
Against the Sky Supreme
The Great Ruler
Lingwu Continent
Ten Thousand Worlds
Battle Through the Heavens
Immortality
Martial Universe
Dragon Prince Yuan
Ascendants of the Nine Suns
A Will Eternal
Supreme God Emperor
The God of War Dominates
World of Immortals
Ever Night
Walking the Way All Alone
Coiling Dragon
A Good Day to Ascend
Way of Choices
Spirit Sword Sovereign
Snow Eagle Lord
Dubu Xiaoyao
The Degenerate-Drawing Jianghu
The Eternal Supreme: Li Yunxiao
The King's Avatar
Quanzhi Fashi
The Legend of Xianwu
Gu An
The Daily Life of the Immortal King
Tomb of Fallen Gods
Wonderland of Ten Thousand
Martial God Asura
The Peak of True Martial Arts
Peerless Martial Spirit
Peerless Battle Spirit
God of Eternity
Tried but not ranked yet, will mostly be ranked lower on my list probably: Soul Land, Slay the Gods, Throne of Seal, Lord of Mysteries, Apotheosis, The Demon Hunter, Gu An, Primeval Overlord, Way of Choices

is this just the beginning for the "bigger" donghua studios? (bankruptcy)
known for the Westward (journey to the west) adaptations and sidestories, never really did well but tencent kept pumping money in it for some reason, also adapted some well-known IPs like Peerless proud twins and Novoland eagle flag, which flopped as well
with the fast uprise of AI and the continued declining of "traditional" donghua quality and market, it doesn't seem to bode that well for the donghua industry, aside for some heavyweights studios with more popular donghua who can survive

SPIRIT SWORD SOVEREIGN frankly speaking i started it a while ago and i cant get over the fact that im 350 eps inn and it feels like a-super slow asf plot and on top of that theres too much random misunderstanding and allegations that takes so much episodes to cover like dayum its just my opinion but bro just was drugged once and before that also due to the possession like i cant deal with this man at this point just adapt harem instead
By the shore of deep waters, there dwells a bewitching demoness. Her black hair cascades like a waterfall, and her sheer gauze seems to reveal every bone beneath. The river god, a water spirit in the form of a clam, gazes with an eye that spans ten thousand years.
The lanterns shine brightly, rising to the clouds; white butterflies of light bloom like jade lotuses.
With the glow of lanterns carrying our heartfelt wishes and the breeze carrying distant thoughts, we are truly fortunate to have all of you fellow cultivatorsā devoted attention, together forging this immortal bond.

A few months ago, I was watching a donghua on my TV. Due to some guests suddenly visiting that day I forgot to check its name and had to turn it off. Sadly, there was an issue recently with the TV so I had to erase all data and it logged out. I cannot recall which gmail it was and it was months ago.
The donghua begins like this:
The MC is a gamer doing some kind of solo dungeon challenge in the first episode which he wins inside the game and gets the challenger reward. An Ai mascot which looked like a dragon came to him in order to give him the reward. He was suddenly pulled inside the game physically during an assassination. He was a young master of some clan. There was a supportive maid and two assassins who wanted to eliminate him. He wasnāt skilled physically at first and lacked attributes. For which he was easily getting beaten by the assassins and being made fun of then the mascot comes and says to him that he has a newbie perk package. The MC gains attribute points then beats them all up there. It was some kind of martial arts based or cultivation based game donghua. I wanna watch the full thing. Help me find it.
New character illustrations and magnificent scene concept art. Systematically explore magical treasures, mythical beasts, formations, artistic conceptions, and supernatural powers. Step into Wang Lin's rebellious path to immortality and glimpse the grand world of this new Chinese-style fantasy.
Nangong Wan appears in her new outfit in Drifting Cloud Sect. Wei Wuya confronts Master Zhongshen, as the overwhelming might of the Yuan Empress sends shockwaves through the realm. The Mulan faction has gained another formidable rival, and the situation in the southern skies grows ever more perilous.
On the Double Ninth Festival, may you enjoy peace and health year after year. Join the Iron Triangle in admiring the autumn scenery and wishing everyone a happy and healthy Double Ninth Festival.
1>2>3>4>5 in terms os story(that is pretty much lost in season 1), comedy and animation. I was hoping season 5 would break the trend but it just kept following it actually pretty impressive to be this consistent ngl. I guess I should still hold out hope for season 6?
Today is the birthdate of Li Fu's third son, Quan Chen Tangguan (actually Quan Hong Huang), the cutest existence, and the great god of the three altars sea-which is the birthday of Nezha.

I don't know what I was expecting but I thought the mc moved past all the bad stuff and finally things going good for him in this season but I guess the author had to reminds us in the latest episode that he can still mess up the mc life again

Am I allowed to ask for recommendations here? I found no proper tag for that. Please delete if not allowed.
So far the only titles I enjoyed are:
First Order - more modern setting, mysteries, horror
Law Of Devil - Fantasy feel
Jade Dynasty - outlier for me as I generally canāt get into the "regular" donghua. But I liked it for its dark MC and the political/mature tone. (The fights are far too extensive though).
Can someone recommend me titles to check out? I prefer it darker and mature, without sects shenanigans. Villains or Anti-Heroes as MC would be amazing. Overpowered MC welcomed.
Tried Swallowed Star (too sci-fi) and Purple River (too childish).

So when Qin Mu had his duel with the son of tao, he was only using the first stage of his heavenly eye technique. However, by the time the next arc rolls around in a few episodes he seems to be using the second stage, as it changes color. Was this development of him unlocking the next stage something that happened offscreen?

I've been wanting to watch Into the Mortal World (ę®éčÆ) for a while but for the life of me that I can't find decent subtitles for it. There were some in subtitlecat that are so ununderstandable that they called the catastrophy the weaver girl caused "bisexual" and a website to watch it online where they kinda work?Āæ? (if you can call "If you make meritorious, it's also atonement for the mother" and "Didn't your mother go back then are disasters in both worlds" working).
So, can someone save me? I really really want to watch this movie but I don't know Chinese. I speak Spanish and English so both of those are good if you find anything.
