Associate Discussions Have y'all ever have someone come in with a jar full of change to pay for there stuff 🤦!

A older lady came to my register with a jar full of change in the middle of the day while we were busy with only one lane open, took her her time counting it just to find out she didn't have enough so she pulls out her wallet with money in it and hands me a $10 bill! Everyone in line was pissed 🤣!

cUstOMeRs Really? Doordash just as we're about to close?

So, there's this guy that decides to come in 10 minutes right before we close.

Not only that, he took on a Doordash order that requested a shit ton of items that we don't have for the most part.

Since he didn't speak English pretty well and we were about to close soon, so he took advantage of the fact that I was available because I was doing gobacks and not on register.

He made me lead him toward every single item, despite me trying to do my main job.

I tried to tell him where that item is located and I pointed toward that area so that he could go look for it himself, but he wanted me to lead him. At first, I tried to be nice and led him to where he needed to go and I thought that was it. But once he did his Doordash thing, he requested me to do the same thing for other items on the order.

It was at this point I realized I was basically doing his Doordash order for him, forgetting that I have to help do final checks of the sales floor, until my manager called for me to do so.

I tried to tell the customer that I need to do my job, but he still wouldn't let me go, and I went to do final checks anyway. As I left, he was trying to beckon me back towards him to help him with his dumb last minute Doordash order.

It was finally when the customer realized that we are closed, that he had to admit his losses, leaving the cart behind, thus creating more gobacks for the next day.

I seriously don't understand why some Dashers decide to accept Doordash orders at the last minute. I don't understand why a person would even think of doing a huge Doordash order right before we close, forcing the Dasher on tight time constraints, especially if we don't even have the items that they need.

Either order early on in the day when we are still open, or just come in yourself to shop.

BTW, we are one of the only Dollar Tree stores to close at 10 in the area, we used to close at 9 before when we first opened, so they probably took advantage of that, but it's still stupid.

cUstOMeRs Today I had a new one..

Some lady comes in and after about five minutes just starts yelling "Hello!" at the top of her lungs, I assume she's on the phone or tweaking out like 15% of the people who come to our store. No..instead of coming to the registers like a normal person she starts just yelling Hello and assuming my manager or me is just going to come sprinting to her. Then she proceeded to get mad and say "What you didn't hear me?" And I just said "Ma'am you just started yelling Hello like a crack head, how am I supposed to know you need help?" And she responded with "Well how else am I supposed to get someone to get an item" "Maybe ask for help instead of just shouting hello?"-Me "I DID! What do you think hello means?!?"-Her "Youre in the middle of an aisle shouting Hello, that gives us zero information other than you're on the phone or tweaking which means we're going to do the 4 other things that normally would have more than 2 employees for."-Me

Which then other customers started laughing at her logic which she thought they were on her side while saying "Yeahhh....you did yell hello". Two people felt bad when they asked if we got paid enough to deal with people like that and I just said "Fuck no we don't"(I work in the hood and I'm from Jersey so being blunt/honest with customers is fine/most actually prefer for some reason 🤷)

Anyone else deal with these types of people yet?

Management Questions Merch Management

is it possible for a 20y woman with no prior experience to merch management to be the merch manager? or does that sound too ridiculous? i really want the position because of the pay. I’ve been working in my store for about a year now as a cashier, and slowly, i worked my way up to assistant manager. Now there’s a chance i can get the merch position, I just don’t want to accept something i know i can’t handle. any advice or tips would be appreciated.

Associate Questions Communication problems and scheduling issues

So this is my first job and when I was being hired I was told I would mostly work evening shifts because that’s when I’m not at school. My first couple of shifts were like this, but once I started getting like actually put on the schedule, they wanted me to come in during school. So I text my manager my availability again and everything was fixed for that week. Around the same time, I text her days I wouldn’t be able to come in cause I had to be at school for a class all day. I also put in an availability change request for as soon as it would let me on the schedule website so it would be accessible to anyone who makes the schedule.

The next schedule comes out, and guess what? I’m still scheduled during school. I text my manager again, she told me she’s vacation and she’ll fix some of my schedule when she gets back and she’ll give me the contact information of an assistant manager I can talk to.

I haven’t heard from her since, I never got the information, I have no other way to contact any other assistant managers because I’m so new I don’t have anyone’s information, I tried to call the store but it wasn’t going through. There’s no way I can fix my schedule right now and I can’t go in today when I was scheduled.

I was actually supposed to go in at 5 am today and stay until 10 pm, but when I woke up I saw they changed it to 5 pm, but that’s still something I can’t make. The schedules for the next couple of weeks have come out, and they’re just as messed up and I can only actually come into maybe 2 shifts.

I really don’t feel listened to here. Remember that availability change request I put into? It expired, nobody looked at it, so I keep getting shifts I can’t physically go into, and the days I can’t come in at all haven’t been communicated to whoever makes the schedule either.

Are all dollar trees like this? What should I do about this situation? Should I stick with this job or is it not worth it?

Associate Questions Offered Store Manager position

Hi there!

New to the sub but I was reached out to by a recruiter for the company in regards to a store manager position and was curious what it's like. Does anyone know the typical hours for a store manager and the schedule as well as they pay? It's out of Kentucky and I currently work in retail pharmacy with a decent salary but the pharmacy aspect is definitely taking a toll on me and have been wanting to move out. For reference I'm an assistant manager and make $54,000 annually at my company. Any answer or insight would be amazing!

Edit: Currently I work 44 hours and pharmacy eats a minimum of 5 hours for me weekly but up to 10.

I always do my best to keep it like this in my HBC all my coworkers say I have OCD but honestly it just makes everything easier to stock ESPECIALLY in HBC if everything is together. 😁

Customer Disscussions what do i do

I decided to walk into a dollar tree for the first time in years, and throughout the store i knew i could hear something weird but i thought it was the ac till the ac turned off and all i could hear coming from the breakroom was two people DOING THE NASTY. I could hear the lady being like stop i have to count this im sooo bad and i could hear every kiss every everything. i feel so disturbed and have no idea what to call if i even should call anyone about this. what if there were kids in there? like it’s so just yucky and i wish i can somehow erase that from my mind

also should i show the video? i mean when i say doing the nasty i mean that man was clapping cheeks so loud i heard it across the store and the lady he was doing it to had no care who was hearing it

Really, please, send me *more* things I have no room on the shelves for instead of sending me things I have none of and customers ask for. I really, truly, appreciate this inventory paradigm.

Customer Questions Is Dollar Tree no longer carrying the theater box sized M&M's

I have not seen the theater boxed M&M's in about a month or so with my local DTs. Are they no longer carrying them?

And she was actually mad saying we needed to fix our sign because it's misleading... Uh it clearly states SALE $1.00 EACH but because the box wasn't opened she assumed each mean per box which is still ridiculous but whatever..

Associate Questions My drawer was $76 short - am I fucked?

How it happened (today):

I had just clocked in and had a couple customers so far. this woman comes through with a (i think) $26 total. she hands me a $100 bill. I didn't realize I might or might not have enough in my drawer- I didn't think I did, so I called my manager up and told her "I don't have enough change for this, and I already put "$100" in the till." What she does is breaks the lady's $100 into 20s and hands it to the woman. this part is fuzzy. either she hands me the 100 in 20s, or hands me only 40. I THINK she handed me only 40, to which I didn't realize I would need to re-do everything - what I did was give her change for the $100 as it showed on the register - $79.xx or something like that - with the 40 she handed me and what was in my drawer. I know I sound extremely stupid and in hindsight, I should have slowed down and handled it better, but this is my first cashier job (3 weeks today) and I'm not great in uncertain situations. I want to cry thinking about it, so please be nice; but answer honestly, am I fucked?

Management Disscussion Story

Does anyone have a good story where they got back at a bad SM? I am planning on leaving my DT and I am the only other full time person and I am the closer. So when I leave He will not only have to work doubles everyday but stock all that shit himself. I stock seasonal right now and we are getting so backed up on Christmas.

If we have no merch then is it the SMs job to stock it? Does it get decided between merch and SM and why? Or can anyone stock it.

Management Questions Ringing up customers while on lunch break

This may seem like a dumb question, but at DT, is it policy not to ring up customers on your own til while you are on your 30 minute lunch break or is it just a bad practice? Because while there is only you (SM, ASM) and one cashier and your line is growing because someone wants to load their 3rd party card or their pay cards while you are on a break is it technically against company policy to take payment while technically off the clock? Thanks in advance for your honesty and support. I' just had this situation happen less than 10 minutes ago and I lost about 5 minutes of my lunch time šŸ¤¦šŸ¾ā€ā™‚ļøšŸ™„

Customer Disscussions Customer appreciation: One thing I respect about Dollar Tree is that they resisted and rebelled against the cultural trend to hypermodernize their stores.

Many stores these days have lost their luster and taste, all in the namesake of trying to hyper-modernize the stores, because I think they're trying to go for a more low-maintenance design philosophy, and they're executing it pretty poorly.

But one thing I love about Dollar Tree is that even though some of the stores are modernizing, obviously with the times, they're still stuck in that very particular 2000s-coded retail aesthetic. I don't know the particular name of it, but many variety stores and places as well, like O'Reilly Auto Parts, Hobby Lobby, Walgreens and CVS also kind of have this look that I'm thinking of.

But it's kind of like almost an opposite to grayscale, whereas grayscale, as the name implies, is very gray and brutalist. This is kind of like what I would almost call "whitescale" and as the name implies, have like a very kind of like a cream-colored interior wall-base with a somewhat kids party room or K-12 school hallway facade to them. I always been drawn to this design aesthetic, but I really do not know what it is called.

Either way, I want to show appreciation to Dollar Tree. Maybe not as a corporation, obviously, but as a retail institution. I want to thank them for, honestly, for serving some of the design integrity behind their stores. Even stores that are kind of right now giving themselves a remodel treatment, all they're really doing is just replacing the carpeting with that minimalist-looking tile floor pattern. You're kind of finding a lot of, in like, some government buildings, hospitals, convention centers, etc. That's really about it. Most of the interior facades are still pretty much the same, though. I pray and hope that they keep it this way, but only time will tell how long they want to keep it for.
