Player keeps cheating his dice rolls. What do I do?
Okay so I never thought I’d have to make this post but here we are. Normally I’d say my group is perfect, but recently I’ve started to notice something weird happening.
One of the players at the table, let’s call him Ben (yes that is his real name) started changing his dice rolls. He would roll for an attack, a 5 for example and then start adding stuff to make it bigger. By the end he had like an 11. After I started noticing this behaviour, I realized literally everyone did this too and the DM didn’t reprimand them at all!!!! I think this is crazy unfair and now I don’t wanna play with them anymore. Should I blow up the table?

hAvE yOu TrIeD pAtHfInDeR 2e I think I'm falling out of love with the Gnome's Grimoire
This is kinda a dramatic post and I'm sorry
I, like quite a few folks here I imagine, came over to Grimoire studying in D&D5e after the initial BullyNGL scandal. Honestly, I was already having my greivences with 5e, and I kept seeing discussion online from folks telling 5e fans to switch over to the Grimoire, and I was swayed! It seemed soo cool tbh. Permanent stacking +1 proficiency in attack rolls, monsters' abilities, no actual leveling of any sort and giving Odus the Wizard the ability to cast Mage Armor at will not expending a spell slot. The ability to actually control my players properly and run them with so many abilities. The Grimoire has plenty of really good advice, and there seems like there's something to study for anything that could ever come up during an actual session.
Then I ran with it. For the past 2 years. And god dude this Grimoire makes me feel like an idiot sometimes? I feel like i can barely focus on this sub and pacing and vibes of the jerks because I'm spinning so many plates. Remembering to look for good sauce, lie checks for /uj /rj /uj /rj, secret checks for funny references for hundreds of different situations, complex Gnome interactions and combos and poorly worded rules my players need constant clarification for, range increments, girth, the difference between /rj and /s and /uj, countless social actions that have specific consequences for things I should just be able to do, there's so much! Every time I improvise something I learn there's already a rule for that! And gOd it's so Gnomey and over worded and needless.
I bounced off of D&D and studied the Grimoire because it was all I knew. And now I realize like my circlejerk posts don't need to be this way? There's so many narrative first posts with elegant bits and references that don't get in my way when I'm trying to scroll this sub. I can focus on the story, and the players and the jerkers and vibe so much better because it feels like the posts are there to support me, not Gnome me.
I don't want to be this bitter about the Gnome's Grimoire, it's honestly given me so many great memories over the years. I think this bit is great for certain people and jerkers who can handle the weight of it, but like genuinely I don't know how folks can make a post this cleanly without chandeliers and a bunch of remarks about martials vs spellcasters in it? I drafted another Grimoire post last night, and all my roommates had a lot of fun! But god i didn't.
tdlr; falling out of love with the Gnome's Grimoire, could use some reassurance about it
abcd: Pathfinder can't fix this one

New DM worried about problem players
I’m going to be starting my first campaign this weekend and I’m curious… do I need to buy a problem player myself or will one be provided for me?
I’m worried I won’t have enough Horror stories to share with Reddit, and will never make it onto a YouTube video.

I'm new to DnD.
I'd really like to get into DnD, but the problem is I haven't been born yet. Do you have any advice on how to start?

After a party member found my slander of her here, she made her own slander of me and it was so ass that I got offended and made my pc's slander of my own (tldr: fuck you Catheryn)

Dice Goblin Post #618371 Looking for my new Forever Group!
Hi, everybody! I'm Huckleberry, and after my last group imploded for some reason, I'm looking for a new group!
I'm everything you've ever wanted in a player! I'll strip-mine the books for character ideas, work with the rest of the group, and create the perfect character for the table! I'll come up with playlists for the group, draw everyone's character (and most of the NPCs), and write plenty of fanfic about the game. And in between sessions, I'll keep the Discord chat busy talking about the campaign, discussing what we think is going to happen next, or just sharing funny memes! Heck, I even buy a brand-new set of dice for each game I join!
In short, I'm the perfect player for your campaign! Feel free to reach out and adopt me today!
EDIT: After getting a few messages, it seems that some of you think I actually *play*. No, no, no. I don't have time to show up every week and sit still for four hours; that's a level of commitment that I just can't make. But the character art!
EDIT 2: My last group imploded because nobody ever showed up.

Check out my monk rework Anyone wanna play HYBRID?
I had no idea that the best rpg ever existed where I couldn't see it. It makes Rifts look like rules light theater kid nonsense. It even makes GURPS look like 5E in comparison. This, my dudes, is peak.
Asking for a friend.

I SOLVED DC
FINALLY. I never have to choose a DC ever again! I can just let the dice tell the story like Matt Mercer intended.

Better use of Goodberry spell and Crafter feat! (should it work like this? i am asking so this implies i am fine with a YES or a NO answer and that neither is incorrect)
So a half question cause the raw meat in my fridge does not say it cannot be a thing.
Casting goodberry spell as many times as possible the day before (because of the 24 hour duration, so they last into the next day) which create lots of goodberries. Yes, you take 1 bonus action to eat ONE berry, BUT you can combine with the CRAFTER feat to make a better usage of the spell!
Fast Crafting. When you finish a Long Rest, you can craft one piece of gear from the Fast Crafting table, provided you have the Artisan's Tools associated with that item and have proficiency with those tools. The item lasts until you finish another Long Rest, at which point the item falls apart.
So based by this; i can use tons of berries as ingredients to create 1 object (because it doesnt say what the fast crafted object is made of), and make into a single bonus action healing "potion"!
So eating an entire giant goodberry rope made from 50 goodberries as a bonus action would heal 50 HP, right?
And if yes, then making larger 20 pound Tents would be a much better usage, because you can use up all remained spell slot on goodberries to make much stronger healing Tents that heal 200 HP! (if wanna limit a bit, then can use only 199 berries in a treat...)
The title is an open ended question, so feel free to give your opinions on things from whether or not it's RAW to whether or not you think it's balanced. There are no wrong answers!
Edit: It's been two hours since I made this post and I still can't stop thinking of "goodberry ropes" as giant nerds ropes and thinking that those would be really tasty ngl

Can a anarchist be a DM?
Hi everyone, thanks for reading my post. I am an anarchist, and as is often the case, I am confused by my own anarchism. I want to know if it's okay for me to be a Dungeon Master or if that goes against my principles.
I've spraypainted "NO GODS NO MASTERS" on more fences and walls than you've had hot dinners. Does that make me a big old hypocrite if I become a Dungeon Master? The DM sits atop an unjustified hierarchy, lording over the players with unlimited authority. I'm particularly uncomfortable with that last word. There seem to be a lot of gods in the game, too, all depicted by the DM, plus I've heard many times that "DM is god" so it seems like a double violation potentially.
Also I've heard that many DMs fill their stories with dangerous, monstrous "bosses." Is it ethical for me as an anarchist to unilaterally install such authoritarian exploiters in the game? Even if so I'm not sure I would feel good about replicating the reactionary injustices of class society when as a DM I would have the authority ability to make it otherwise.
Should I refuse to DM on account of my deeply held principles? Should I go further and hunt DMs for sport in a form of bloody propaganda of the deed? Or is there a way I can reconcile DMing and anarchism somehow? Does Pathfinder fix this? Please tell me what to do. As an anarchist, I need Reddit to interpret my own ideology to me. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

DM bad Usage of Vocal Filler Sounds by GM
Hey, guys. I will probably drop the game, but I want to inspect the situation and hear other TTRPG players' opinions on it.
During my 5 years of TTRPGs journey, I have played with about 12 different GMs. I have formed friendships and stayed with 2 of them for more than 3 years to nowadays. This might be hard to believe, but I am always in multiple campaigns at the same time, and I participate in one-shots. My point is that I am not new, I have seen a fair share of GM styles, and I have GM'd some shorter games myself.
The game in question had gone on for 4 sessions. It is a pre-written module in a roleplaying heavy system. During session 0, the GM wasn’t feeling very well, and they used a vocal filler sound "Um" as breaks in their sentences. It was about 2 or 3 times per sentence. It was a new group. They might be nervous. I carried on.
The GM did improve to have 1 vocal filler sound per sentence after session 0. However, I quickly realized that this might be how this person talk all the time, at least GMing.
I really want to enjoy this game since the module looks very cool, but I cannot get over how this GM tells story. It feels like pulling teeth when they talk. They rarely remember NPC/location names off the top of their head and just sound uncertain all the time.
On the other hand, I am very curious about the psychology behind usage of filler words/sounds and why people usually perceive them negatively. Maybe that will help me understand this irritation in my head.
Any advice to ground yourself and ignore this linguistic peculiarity? Unfortunately, I have met this person online and we have no prior relationship before this. If I know this GM on a personal level, maybe I would feel differently.

New inmovative way to determine DCs!
The method works like this
Call for a roll
The player rolls adds up their bonuses and tells you the result of the roll
you roll a D20 behind the screen: 1-10 they fail the check, 10-20 they succeed
I came up with this beautiful new method when I tried to stop me treating players pteferentially by giving them lower DCs(how could I help myself she has such beautiful eyes).
Additionally it prevents meta gaming, cause if I told my players the DC beforehand they could use their characters' abilities to gain an unfair advantage.
I am convinced this will become the new default way to determine DC in the hobby, please credit me for the discovery.

Matthew Mercer Moment Neat interaction my party used.
I'm DMing for a party of 2, the 2 being a fighter, a cleric and a wizard. Yes, that's two.
We're playing a combat heavy game, with about 4 fights per long rest, and i'm pretty chill with short rests, pretty much allowing it to happen after each combat. That way the special child don't complain too much about not having his "resources".
Anyway, the wizard had summoned a battle familiar for the first encounter and it survived, but it was a pretty taxing encounter and everyone needed a short rest.
The cleric used prayer of healing, so they could short rest in 10 minutes and keep the familiar, saving them from the tough choice. It proved to be the right call, since the battle familiar went on to kick major butt in the next encounters, outpacing the annoying mascot guy which only purpose is supposedly to do that himself, finally being defeated in the final encounter. The three of us (the cleric, the wizard and me) all cried because the familiar had a tragic 70 pages word document worth of backstory, and really it was super sad to see it leaving us that way.
I know it is a simple interaction that exists since the beggining of 5e 2024 (with other 1 hour summon spells), but i had'nt seem it or thought about it before, and thought it was pretty cool. It's very cool for two players playing the right classes to find such niche and yet incredible interactions. Well the other guy wanted to give a sword to the familiar but whatever, our real third party member didn't needed it.
Also made me see the valeu of Magic Conoisseur (prayer of healing) for a summon focused charachter, if you don't have a cleric in the party.

Sauce Every DC in my game is 5 + 1d20
think about it. Doesn't it make the game 100x better? nobody can say you're taking favourites as the GM if you're larping as a GMless system. This also solves the issue of these dirty powergamers trying to figure out that a 15 passes. it just removes all the fun from the game if they don't have to beg you to let their high roll actually beat it. so boring!
as a bonus, my cool new system can even do everything the normal way of rolling can do because if mike is pissing you off and trying to haggle himself more gold you can just give him a 10+d20 dc while your girlfriend can have a 0+d20 so she doesn't annihilate your balls tonight
this even permits you to attatch a sparsely thought out degrees of success system, unlike the default
i dont know about you guys, but this wheel i invented is so good, it has an entire 8 corners
