Someone please explain paw patrol to me

My kid has moved on to the paw patrol phase. It’s all she wants to talk about.
I don’t think the episodes are all that bad for the most part but god help me -what is the backstory?
how did a preteen boy end up with a pack of puppies that are positively loaded up with potentially millions of dollars of high tech gear, rescue equipment etc. the ability to talk and also operate said gear? where are his parents? Where does the funding come from? And why does everyone in adventure bay call the dogs instead of I dunno real first responders?
also why isn’t there an emt dog?

Dr Seuss’s ABC (original hardcover edition vs abridged board book edition)

The board book changed a lot of the fun bits of the original book, but this was the one that stood out the most to me.

My 2 and 3 year old don’t care for it, so I’m currently watching it without them, it’s incredible that this is the same production company that made Peppa Pig.

As a gardener, this is my favorite definition of a weed I’ve ever seen and I will be calling the weeds in my garden “cheeky plants” henceforth.

Why is Iron-Man a child now?

Post image

I was watching this new Spidey Halloween Special with my two year old son. Seemingly without any sort of explanation into the established cannon Iron Man is now a child instead of a 45 year old man who hangs out with preschoolers. After becoming visibly triggered I asked my son if we could put something else on and was denied.

Scuppers never left the bay he originally departed from

Scuppers is not a great sailor. In fact, I believe Scupper's lives on a large bay, similar to San Francisco, and his great journey takes place within an approximately 10 mile radius. Why?

1) Scuppers in a terrible judge of distance. In the intro to the story, it discusses Scuppers going "over the hills and far away" to the ocean, but as you can see from the lighthouse in the background of his departure location and corresponding geology, it's the same lighthouse. He basically traveled a mile.

2) Scuppers throws his anchor into the sea at night. This is not something you would do unless you were close to land, as you need your anchor to catch bottom. Additionally, in the course of 1 night, Scuppers anchor dragged far enough as to end up wrecking on the rocks. He must not have been too far away from shore to begin with.

3) Once "ship wrecked", Scuppers finds a ready supply of bricks, a tool box, and even milled lumber. This feels more like the debris of a working harbor than a deserted island.

4) Even though Scuppers ends up in a "foreign land", he is immediately able to find a western "Army & Navy" store, meaning that this foreignland is also Americanized. Given we've already established Scupper is a terrible judge of distance, it is not unbelievable that Scuppers just found his way to a different community on the bay with a heavily Muslim population- a Doggy Dearborn if you will.

Scuppers may be a great story teller and may believe himself to be a great sailor. Critically, he is still a dog.

In Hotel Transylvania (2012), why did renowned murderer Count Dracula not simply murder Johnny immediately upon encountering him? Is he stupid?

He has the same energy as a meat canyon puppet. The look in his eyes tells me he has seen horrific things. He’s not a baby at all, he’s actually 30. He simply forgot how to use the potty as a trauma response.

I can't make any sense of Mater's Tall Tales

I tried to come up with some theories on this, but honestly, there are so many possibilities, all of them bizarre, that I couldn't even figure out where to start.

So Mater's Tall Tales is about broken-down hick tow truck Mater telling his pal Lightning McQueen obviously fake, self-aggrandizing stories about his amazing exploits -- he was a matador! He went to the moon! He was a professional wrestler!

There are two jokes that recur in every episode. First, Lightning will ask Mater an incredulous question about his story, and Mater will respond to the effect of, "Well, shucks, you oughta know, you was there too!" We then go back to Mater's story, now with Lightning as Mater's tag-team partner or whatever.

Second, after Mater is done with his story, Lightning is like, "Mater, come on that didn't happen," and then we'll immediately see something that proves Mater was telling the truth after all -- somebody drives up, recognizes Mater as his wrestling gimmick and asks for his autograph, for example.

The problem is that these two jokes can't co-exist. If the stories are true after all, why doesn't Lightning remember being there? Is he an amnesiac? Is Mater telling the truth about everything except Lightning being there? Why would he do that if the implicit point of the lie is to make himself look cool and inserting Lightning does nothing to accomplish that? Is Mater trying to gaslight Lightning? To what end? Is Lightning trying to gaslight Mater? Does Mater (who is not the sharpest truck in the garage) love Lightning so much that he can't help but create false memories of him being involved in all his adventures? Is he just trying to make Lightning feel good but is so dumb that he doesn't realize Lightning has his own memories?

I'm sure there are possibilities I'm not even thinking of. I am so frustrated with this apparent inconsistency in a show where Mater wrestles an Irish monster-truck cement mixer named Paddy O'Concrete.

It's mainly the rather uncanny-looking cartoon Barney and the pitch-black background, for one thing.

How do any of you stand Blippi, or worse, enjoy him?

Old Blippi. New Blippi. I don’t care, I just want no Blippi.

It’s not entertaining or educational. And at worst, it’s a man-child making stupid noises and awkwardly interacting with every living soul around him.

I’m partially just bitching, but I’m also legitimately wondering how people enjoy his content.

Reading with your eyes shut

I was reading this book to my kid and it it’s so relevant to today. How you need to really look into or at what you are reading bc the media is so manipulative. And then I get to this page. Do you think this is some sort of propaganda. Is it saying this places are behind the times? I googled Wilkes-barre ( the sign at the top) and it’s a county in Pennsylvania. Is there any significance to these places in the picture?

Races/ethnicities of Peppa Pig characters

Disclaimer: some of these ideas were from a TikTok video. I don’t have the app anymore, but if anyone finds the original video, please let me know.

Peppa and her family: typical WASP Brits. Blonde haired, blue eyed. Probably the richest family in their neighborhood (Grandpa Pig has a boat and a train set, they can afford international travel, they knew the Queen personally, and had a third kid in a worldwide recession)

Suzy Sheep-also a white Brit, but lower income, working class.

Rebecca’s family-either Italian or Polish.

Zoey Zebra-mixed race black/white. Father is a black African from Cameroon, mom is a white Brit.

Wendy Wolf-I see her as either Russian or Balkan (like Serbian, Bosnian etc).

Danny Dog-Jamaican/Trinidadian descent. He has dark fur and his dad owns a boat. How can he not be Caribbean?

Pedro Pony-Puerto Rican/Dominican descent.

Gerald Giraffe-Samoan.

Emily & Edmond Elephant-Nigerian immigrants.

Candy Cat-Southeast Asian, either Thai or Filipina.

The Panda twins-Chinese. I think it was confirmed in the Lunar New Year episode.

Freddy Fox-Indian (the country, he’s def not Native American)

Delphine Donkey-her and her family moved to France from Senegal. She was born in Senegal, but her brother Didier was born in France.

Madame Gazelle-born in France but her ancestors were Romanian vampires.

What was Prince Hans plan if Anna said no to his proposal?

Anna obviously says yes which plays perfectly into his plans to take the throne and we see he isn't above regicide when he tries to end the royal bloodline multiple times. When he proposes they happen to be on a very picturesque and romantic waterfall... which is near a very high and precarious cliff ledge...

I believe if Anna said no he would have pushed her to her death and tried to marry Elsa.

New Clifford BLOWS

We are finally off our year-long Mouse a Cookie kick and so we tried Clifford. We’re watching and I’m like wow this is not like how I remember. Turns out, there’s newer ones. After a little searching I found the older ones and they’re just as quaint as I remember. Crisis averted. Now I just need to prepare to watch ONLY Clifford for approximately one year.

Many parents are concerned about this show from PBS because almost every time, this bitch has a tantrum on every fucking thing! From squabbling with Prince Wednesday's cousin Chrissy (a disabled child featured in the series) to him literally complaining about how Margret's birthday isn't going his way.

Like shut the fuck upon and deal with it! Oh wait, let's get an adult wish for you to stop ranting and sing you a lullaby with a ukulele. Get a fucking grip and use you brain, and deal with it.
