Announcement Regarding low-effort posts & questions

Hey everyone,

Regarding these common posts such as: “what to do in Nicosia, what to do in ….” or other real estate and common tourist questions that can be easily looked up and have been answered before.

Please just report the post and do not engage in the comments, if you think the post should be removed. When there are multiple reports on a post, we receive a notification and can deal with them on a case by case basis. When you engage and start discussions we are more hesitant to remove the post as you all invested your time for a response and it would be counterproductive to remove them. At least thats what I would think.

If you have different suggestions on this topic let us know.

Question Is this normal for a gynaecologist in Cyprus?

Yesterday I visited a gynaecologist in Nicosia, and the experience left me feeling really uncomfortable.

First, there was no receptionist or nurse. He seemed to be running the entire practice alone, which I found unusual for a gynaecologist.

His office was also filled with religious paintings and statues, including a huge Virgin Mary painting directly facing patients. Honestly, it felt more like a church than a medical office. I respect religious beliefs, but personally, I prefer a more neutral healthcare environment.

Then came the GESY issue. He repeatedly insisted my beneficiary number was wrong, even though I've been registered for months and have already used GESY without problems. While I was trying to show him my details, he spent quite some time talking on the phone, barely acknowledging me.

Eventually, I left without even being examined.

What bothered me wasn't just the GESY confusion, but his dismissive attitude and the overall atmosphere.

It's 2026. Am I expecting too much by wanting a professional, welcoming and patient-centred environment?

Has anyone else had similar experiences in Cyprus?

And can anyone recommend a kind, professional and open-minded gynaecologist in Nicosia who works with GESY?

I started a clothing brand inspired by Cyprus

Hey guys !! so this past year I started a clothing brand with my brother n best friend inspired by Cyprus. we spent a lot of time living abroad and being far away made us appreciate Cyprus a lot more. Especially all the little things that you don’t get anywhere else. some of our designs are inspired by things like lefkara lace, aphrodite’s rock, the plastic chairs you see everywhere, local football pitches and just everyday life in cyprus. we also take a lot of inspiration from vintage clothing, streetwear and things we’ve come across while living abroad. it’s been a lot of trial and error, and we’re still learning as we go, but it’s been really fun making something that’s connected to home. thought i’d share a few of our pieces here and see what you guys think. would love to hear some honest opinions, especially from fellow cypriots!

Venting / Rant Is Cyprus traffic getting worse, or am I cursed?

Hi all,

There have been a lot of posts about traffic, parking, honking, etc., in Cyprus, and I have always found those complaints a bit exaggerated. It’s uncomfortable and disrespectful to park outside periptero in the wrong lane, blocking half the road, but in the end, it’s not inherently dangerous, and I’ve always had a rather calm attitude toward all these things.

However, lately, at least to me, it seems that the situation has changed for the worse.

Just in the last 3 months alone, I have encountered the following incidents:

  1. While riding in a taxi, we were T-boned at an unregulated intersection. The driver was probably on his phone.

  2. I stopped at a red light as the first car at the line and was rear-ended. Now I'm facing months of waiting for parts. I have no idea how you could miss that. The guy was probably on his phone too. He didn't have insurance either.

  3. While on the highway, a guy in a huge SUV just started moving into my lane while overtaking me. I honked, and the guy dropped his phone and swerved back.

  4. Just yesterday, TWICE on the same trip, other cars tried to take the first exit on a ring road while entering from the inner circle, surely without indicators. I had to brake hard, and it was pure luck that I didn't get rear-ended again.

Right now, I feel very uncomfortable driving every day because I'm expecting to get hit from any direction and don't trust other cars approaching from behind or the sides.

Well, I didn't mean to write such a long vent, but basically my question is: is this just bad luck and anecdotal evidence on my part, or have you guys also noticed that traffic has changed for the worse, say, over the course of this year?

tl;dr: Has the traffic situation become more dangerous lately, or is it just me and my bad luck?

How much does a car key copy cost?

They told me the key only is 80€ and the whole key with the sensor etc... it's 300€.

I don't really know the prices and wanted to know if that's the actual average price in Cyprus 😅😊

Help I wrote a small dictionary of Cypriot phrases. Which ones am I missing?

I’ve been writing short explanations of Cypriot phrases: what they mean, where the words come from and how you’d actually use them. So far there’s Ενίξερω, Έππεσεν τ' αφάλιν μου, Κόπιασε, Μεν μασιέσαι and a few more. Full disclosure: I also print them on T-shirts, which is how this started. Two questions: does anyone know where "Αγγούρι του Πίνγκου" comes from? And which phrase should I add next? https://eniksero.com/cypriot-phrases/

Venting / Rant The broken legal system for custody in Cyprus

This is a bit of a long story, but 4 years ago, my then partner of 10 years was arrested for SAing my middle daughter. I was blindsided, devastated, & my world crumbled in a day.

My eldest & middle kids moved back to the UK immediately & left myself & my youngest daughter (by him) behind. After 9 months in custody, he was released on bail & almost immediately put in for custody of my daughter, claiming all sorts of crazy things that were obviously not true

Over the course of the following (almost) 3 years, he terrorised us, including putting my daughter on the no fly list, & we had zero help or support from *anywhere*. I actively had welfare contacting me to "bring the baby, his mother is coming *now*" & one even told me to just give him access because "he's going to get it anyway". I stood firm.

He was finally sentenced to 11 years in prison last October. He dropped his custody case in February, so it then became myself pursuing custody

I've *finally* been granted custody little over 4 years on from the ordeal, after being pushed from pillar to post, ignored, left by the wayside & struggling to support my child as a WFH single parent, all while missing my amazing older kids

My youngest daughter's life was absolutely blitzed that day, but she's happy, intelligent & honestly, one of the best kids ever. My eldest 2 are doing fantastically & I'm so proud of all 3 of them

I am beyond disgusted at the legal system protecting fathers to the extent that they allowed a literal pedophile the chance to attempt to gain custody, put off court dates & drag out the entire thing, as well as the police at the station he signed bail at weekly for telling me "there's no such thing as filing a harassment claim against someone", & also the welfare system's blatant disregard for a CHILD'S SAFETY because it's not *what* you know out here, it's *who* you know

Now my solicitor is seemingly withholding my custody papers until I pay her €2,500 fees (which I absolutely cannot afford rn, having already paid her €1,000 so far)

My eldest daughter has set me up a gofundme to try to help (even the cab fare to my solicitor is €160!!) & I'm struggling to find some extra work to pick up the slack. I'm a remote native English copywriter & AI has severely impacted my job

Thanks for reading this brain-dump, I'm just at a complete loss for how this whole ordeal has been handled. All because there's no proper system in place to support both parents in custody situations that aren't black & white & that a child abuser with a good lawyer can basically do what they want & influence people who're supposed to be doing jobs in serious sectors

Storage Units for Temporary Absence:

Starting in 2027, I’ll be living in Cyprus for 7–8 months, but I also want to live somewhere else for a few months and rent out my apartment. For that, I’m looking for a good place to store my personal belongings, including technical equipment.

Does anyone know about the storage units from storenest24.com?

Do you have any experience with them? Or do you know of any other climate-controlled storage options?

Good public schools

Hi all, we are a family with 3 kids, ages 7, 4 and 1.

We are thinking about moving to Cyprus next year and currently exploring the education topic.

We read about all the private schools on the island :) some fit our needs but a few years from now, the tuition for 3 school aged kids, is between 1600€ and 4000€ per month. The private schools we liked cost between 3000 and 4000 per month.

We would like to explore the public schools option. We think it can help us all better integrate into Cyprus' culture.

We will move to an area based on the school choice. We are fine with paying extra to reside in a very good neighborhood to get into the school. We prefer to focus on Limassol, Paphos, Larnaca and their surroundings.

Can someone recommend a good public school? We didn't find actual public schools recommendations or good neighborhoods that link to good public schools.

We care about:

- quality teachers that enjoy what they do.

- some level of alternative approach, we know that it won't change the curriculum in public schools.

- attention to the kids, their specific issues and needs.

- open door philosophy, good communication with parents

- extra English lessons? I don't know if it exists, maybe in neighborhoods with many expats.

- some connection to nature, weekly short trips/vegetable garden/studying in nature etc.

Our kids speak Russian and English.

We will appreciate any feedback 🙂

Meet some people

Hey everyone,

I've been in Limassol for about 3 weeks now and don't really know anyone here yet. Looking to meet some people and build a bit of a social circle.

I'm open to pretty much anything, coffee, a casual drink, board games, chess, or even something more active if there's a group/activity running. Not picky at all, just looking for people to hang out with.

If anyone wants to grab a coffee sometime, or knows of a group/meetup that does this kind of thing, let me know!

Thanks in advance 🙂

P.S. I'm 23 male, looking for just friends.

Question Should I bring my Turkish partner to Cyprus after marriage, or would moving to another EU country be quicker and easier?

Hi everyone! I'm a 24-year-old Greek Cypriot citizen, and my partner is a 28-year-old Turkish citizen. We've been together for over two years, and we're planning to get married.

Our goal is to finally live together permanently, and I'm trying to decide whether I should bring him to Cyprus after we get married or whether we'd be better off moving together to another EU country, particularly Germany or Ireland.

My biggest concerns are whether his Turkish nationality could negatively affect his chances of being accepted to live in Cyprus, even if our marriage is genuine and we meet all the official requirements, and whether the process would take significantly longer than if we moved to Germany and applied under EU free-movement rules.

I know Cyprus and Turkey have a complicated history, and I'm worried about whether this could affect the immigration process in practice. I don't want us to spend time, money on marriage documents, applications and other expenses only to face a refusal or a lengthy wait when there might be a quicker alternative elsewhere in the EU.

A little about us:

  • I'm a Cypriot citizen, currently working as a sales assistant, and I've studied office administration for almost two years.

  • My partner is Turkish, 28, and has strong programming skills, although he hasn't completed his studies or had formal employment yet.

  • We'd both like to work and potentially pursue vocational training in the future.

-We are both fluent in English and currently learning German.

I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who has experience with this situation.

My main questions are:

  1. Do you think there's a realistic risk that Cyprus would refuse my Turkish husband because of his nationality, even if our marriage is genuine and our paperwork is in order?

  2. Have any Cypriots married Turkish citizens and successfully brought their spouses to Cyprus? How did the process go, and how long did it take?

  3. Would the process potentially take longer in Cyprus than if we moved to Germany and he joined me there under EU free-movement rules?

  4. Would you recommend trying the Cyprus route first, or would it be more sensible to move to Germany from the beginning?

I'm not looking to start a political argument. I'm genuinely trying to make the safest and most practical decision for our future together, and I'd rather understand the potential difficulties before committing to one route.

Thank you for any honest advice or personal experiences!
