Mobile phone not spots?

• Upvotes

I'm working on a project to identify populated localities (hamlets, towns, estates etc.) within Cornwall where there is no viable mobile phone signal from any mobile operator. These areas are usually known as not spots. If you know of any please shout out. Your suggestions will help us optimise our analysis of the data being collected as part of a county wide signal survey by the company Streetwave on behalf of Cornwall Council.

Thanks for your help.

r/Cornwall, where do you actually like to eat in Cornwall?

Hi, we’re four friends putting together restaurants across Cornwall in an app called Vota. We’ve already got a lot of ratings from Cornwall locals, so feel free to browse the current take on the area.

The idea is simple: you’re shown two restaurants and choose where you’d rather eat. For example: two very different places like Paul Ainsworth at No6 in Padstow or Mackerel Sky Seafood Bar in Newlyn? The votes then create a ranking that we hope gives a better picture of where people actually enjoy eating.

We’re trying to include as many restaurants as possible and clean up duplicate or outdated listings, but locals will spot things we’ve missed.

iPhone:
https://apps.apple.com/app/vota/id6744969212

Android:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vota.app

Full transparency: we’re not from Cornwall. Two of us live in Copenhagen and two in Sweden. The four of us are building Vota independently. We don’t collect or sell personal data, there are no ads in the app, and we don’t use AI-generated restaurant opinions.

No need to rate anything, feel free to just browse. Where do you like to eat in Cornwall?

Land to Detect?

Evening all.

This is a request to the landowners here in r/Cornwall to ask if you'd mind if I did a spot of metal detecting on your land? I'm respectful and mindful that the land is your income - I would stay within pre-agreed boundaries and be careful to close gates etc. Any rubbish I find on my travels I will gladly collect and dispose of too.

I'm just over the bridge in Plymouth but I am looking to move to Cornwall next year (will need to adjust my scone jam/cream methods I know).

I'm a member of the National Metal Detecting Council (NMDC) which covers me with public liability insurance, and I know how to dig a hole without butchering your grounds.

I'm happy to share with you all my finds, and l'm more than happy to provide a permission agreement if that's something you'd like.

It's myself and occasionally my young daughter, who apparently now loves a bit of history, finding treasure and being outdoors!

Let me know if this is something you'd be open to. I'd definitely throw in a bottle of single malt for your kindness!

South West Water - massive bill increase

We've had our latest bill today from SWW. They want to take our monthly payment up from £45/month to £115/month.

Which seems like daylight robbery to me - how can they justify this massive price hike?

Just to clarify - this is the same amount of water we have consistently used since we moved in to our current property since 2018.

Hello, could anyone tell me where I can buy Callestick ice cream in Penzance? An elder relative is keen on it and we'd like to get them some.

Is it safe to be in a lodge in the winds coming this week?

We’re staying in a lodge in Bodmin at the top of a very small hill on the site. Want to know with the predicted winds whether there’s usually damage down here in these kinds of conditions? My app is currently showing hurricane level winds on Thursday and Friday.

Tourism Planning a special trip for my parents in St. Ives: Any 5-star hotels?

Hi,

Its my parents 40th anniversary and I want to give them a great time in St. Ives. My father spent his childhood summers there but its been over 60 years. I'd like to find a great place for them to stay, ideally a more luxury experience and a standard B&B. Hotels only as well.

Thank you!

Best Cornwall bands for high-energy packed dancefloors

Hello!

Excitingly, I'm getting married in Cornwall in Spring 2027 and would love some recommendations for wedding bands.

I'm hoping to tap into the wisdom of this group to discover bands or musicians who are absolutely tearing up the pub, festival and local gig scene in Cornwall with genuine energy and personality.

We're looking for a really high-energy, festival-style band or musician that can create that packed-pub, everyone-on-the-dancefloor atmosphere. We're not after a slick, corporate function band, but something a bit more raw, fun and unpretentious. By the end of the night, we'd like the dancefloor to be absolutely packed, with people dancing, jumping around and singing at the top of their lungs with their arms around each other. Huge anthems, feel-good nostalgia, festival energy, and just the right amount of chaos. We're hoping to find a band that can genuinely own a room and get everyone from university friends to parents and grandparents bouncing together.

Musically, we'd love a set that can move comfortably between wedding staples, indie anthems, classic rock, 90s/00s favourites, feel-good pop, maybe even some Irish pub classics and the the occasional left-field crowd-pleaser.

The wedding is near Wadebridge, Cornwall, so Cornwall-based would be ideal, but we're happy to consider bands from further afield if they're willing to travel.

If you've been to a pub or gig where the dancefloor was absolutely heaving all night, I'd love to know who the band was.

Thanks!

New Years Eve

Hi everyone We are looking for somewhere to spend NYE. We are flexible and are happy to travel anywhere in Cornwall. Sick of large cities and looking for something more chilled. We tend to try and find a great restaurant or pub for dinner and just stay there. Both foodies and love a more organic/authentic space. Any suggestions? Restaurants/pubs/wine bars all welcome.

Recommendations Does anyone know anywhere that does weekend kickboxing classes? (for men)

I don't mind travelling. I live in mid-Cornwall, but because it suits me more, happy to travel.

The only ones I've found are either, ladies only, or Tuesday/Thursday nights, which I'm unavailable.

Thanks
