Probably going to be a short battle.
Smalling seems to rather talk about anything else. Weird to consider "resilient Cornell" as an achievement but I guess when there's nothing else.
Smalling pointed to the University’s progress, including the Future of the American University Committee and its austerity program Resilient Cornell.
“While we must and will focus our attention this week on the emergent issues, I don’t want them to overshadow the enormous achievements of the past 12 months,” Smalling said.

“This seems like a fitting match for his skills” commented BoT Chair Anne Snelling. “We look forward to him feeding the community healthy and safe.”

I was very impressed by this letter. I hope people will read it in its entirety. It is very on-point and is extremely well-written. Just as I would expect from Cornell professors: informed, thoughtful, dedicated.
It does seem that most signatories are from the A&S, ILR, AAP. I see almost none from engineering, for example. Maybe this difference in vocal dissent is typical among higher ed?
Alumni/students: if your major's faculty have signed, it'd be nice to send them a note of appreciation. If they haven't, you might reach out to the department and ask why--not to give them a hard time, but just to indicate that their support of students (whether explicit or not) is of interest to alumni.

Just can't stay out of the news. At most places, nearly a month of beatings in the media would lead to some changes. Here, we apparently think the folks who oversaw the events in question are the only ones who can fix it. That's a very special kind of stupid if you ask me.
Graduating this semester. Was wondering if anyone knows what happens to our email and our Google workspace after graduation

Story by former Cornell Sun Editor, with details of how an older influential frat alum pressured CUPD to look the other way (not Chi Phi, but same time period ~2024). Also mentions favoritism from VP Lombardi.
Opening of the story:
“Within weeks of the Cornell University Police Department investigating an alleged gang rape at the school’s Chi Phi house two years ago, a top official of another national fraternity privately boasted that he could get his “friends” inside the campus police force to brush aside alleged misconduct from his chapter’s members — one of whom was facing a sexual assault allegation.
Those claims are included in hours of recordings from December 2024 obtained by the Times Union in which Dennis Paese, who serves as the national Sigma Alpha Mu Foundation’s vice president and a longtime adviser to the fraternity’s Cornell chapter, said university police had helped fraternity brothers avoid punishments — including for drug use, underage drinking, egg-throwing vandalism and a feud with a rival fraternity — by overlooking reports as “favors” for him.
In one of the recordings, Paese referred to the chief of Cornell’s police department as “a good friend of mine.” Paese also said he and the chief’s “boss, the guy that’s in charge of campus security overall, … go back even farther.”
Anthony Bellamy, who was chief of Cornell’s police force at the time of the recordings but is no longer with the department, did not respond to a request for comment; he joined the Ithaca Police Department as a deputy chief last year. David Honan, who has served as the university’s associate vice president of public safety since 2021 and is a former Cornell police chief, also did not respond to requests for comment.
The Times Union could not independently verify Paese’s account that Cornell police intentionally overlooked misconduct, quashed potential investigations or inappropriately passed along information to him. In the recordings, Paese did not provide any examples of Cornell police failing to investigate a formal allegation of sexual assault. But his statements raise new questions about Cornell Greek life’s possible ties to a campus police department that is now the subject of national scrutiny over how it investigated the alleged gang rape at the Chi Phi house almost two years ago.”

I'm currently taking HD 2300 Cognitive Development with Prof. Wang, and I'm considering changing the grading basis to S/U, and I wanted to hear your thoughts and advice. I didn't do too well on the first prelim and am concerned about what my final grade will be. I'm taking the class because I plan on going into education and teaching, and I think it is very relevant to my future career and academic goals (e.g., going to a master's program for education, teaching, and curriculum). This class would also count toward an intended HD minor (which I'm also pursuing as a result of wanting to do teaching and education), only if I take it for a letter grade. Please help!

Attention Cornell endowed staff and faculty
On Wednesday, October 21 at 12:00pm ET, leadership will present the 2027 endowed health insurance benefits update to the Employee Assembly.
The presentation will cover the 2027 endowed health plans, including premiums and plan design such as deductibles and out-of-pocket maximums, as well as 2027 dental and vision coverage. For context, endowed family plan premiums went up by $200/month in 2026. Any potential changes to the contract college plans will be announced at a later date.
How to attend:
About Q&A: Employee Assembly members are given priority during the Q&A. Non-EA questions will be allowed if time remains.
Want your question asked? EA seats represent specific colleges and units. Find the representative for your college or unit at https://assembly.cornell.edu/shared-governance/employee-assembly/members and send them your question before Wednesday. If your division or college seat is vacant, you can contact an at-large representative whose seat fits you, such as the exempt, non-exempt, or less-than-5-years-of-service reps. You can also send it to [assembly@cornell.edu](mailto:assembly@cornell.edu) and ask that it be passed along. Endowed faculty can DM me questions here.
Please share this with endowed colleagues, especially anyone who doesn’t follow Reddit or campus email closely.
*note to our mods: I will be reposting this at least once.

Staff here. My supervisor has gaslit me, steamrolled me, and severely undermined my confidence. I can no longer function normally at work or elsewhere. I cannot go on like this.
Has anyone been in a similar situation in this system? My DMs are open. I might not be able to share specifics, I am terrified of retaliation.

I was the "math kid" at my school. Skipped two grades in math. Took courses at my community college my senior year (Calc III and diff eq) because my high school did not offer it. Got a 36 on the Math section of the ACT.
I just took my first math prelim (MTH 2210) and scored 20 points below the median. I feel like a total idiot. I thought I knew the material pretty well too. I've been getting kind of subpar grades for the career I want to go in (academia?), but now I feel like I am just not good enough to get into the grad schools needed to do that. People have been telling me that I'm overreacting but linear algebra is a foo-foo class compared to some of the insane shit I'd be doing later on.
I'm not sure how to react to this information. I kind of have to major in math (?) because I need to graduate early for financial reasons and my transfer credits from community college make it significantly easier to do so.
What should I do? Got any advice?

I have never experienced as many inquiries about my alma mater as I am presently.
