Boulder How was the view from the stadium seats in Salt Lake?

I’m curious from anyone who was there. How was it viewing the comp from the stadium seats? From watching via the livestream, it’s seemed a bit far away to see much without binoculars or large screens.

How did this venue compare? Seems it holds a larger audience But not necessarily ideal for bouldering?

Line to Get A Picture with Orianne

Post image
122 Upvotes

This was during qualis. There was a large line of people who wanted to get photos or signatures from Orianne. I can’t imagine how insane the line would have been during semis or finals when more people were present.

She stayed and took pictures with everyone who waited if you’re curious :)

Are we allowed to gossip a little here?

Just a little curious as my friend saw akiyo, narasaki tomoa and meichi in Salt Lake City and I was told they are doing some rock climbing these days. Akiyo posted an ig story today and said they took melody together to Red Rock. tbh after seeing her post I’m guessing maybe meichi and melody are dating or something? :P

Boulder What's your favourite "original" climbing competition ?

I love watching replays of world climbing competitions (Matt Groom and his guests are chef's kiss) but I also love watching different formats.

I tried to rank them :

1/ Rockmaster - KO boulder

➕ Rules are easy to understand, super entertaining, top athletes who are given a proper chance to top a boulder, and great camera work.
➖ you either love the Italian commentators or you hate them, and sometimes a little bit of both 😂 I understand everything they say coz I speak italian (I'm French), their commentating style is sooooo italian to me ! But I definitely love how they make the athletes shine. Once an athlete solve a problem boulder the others can just try to "copy", so some people may find that format less exciting.

2/ Pro climbing league

➕ Rules are easy to understand, super entertaining, top athletes, great camera work.

➖ Each duel goes too fast (due to the setting ?) and it's frustrating to see top athletes not able to showcase their abilities. Not a fan of the first edition's setting, where it was undercooked for the women s finals.

3/ Team boulder arena

➕ Love the team effort, entertaining, some top athlètes

➖ Not the best camera work/editing, rules are not always that clear to me (losing top athletes on boulder one is cruel, why sooooooo many boulders), I did not like the commentators of the Milan edition.

4/ The north face climb festival

➕ Most spectacular comp, scary jump at the top

➖ Replays not always available, not many top pro athletes, not the best camera work

Ps: not bouldering but seeing Jessie and Jakob climb a frigging DAM was amazing (redbull event of course) !

What are yours ???

Does anyone know how to get tickets for this event? Or am I too late and they're sold out. I can't see too much info about this at all.

How to set for competitions at 45 degrees?

I‘m a competition climber, and I want to practice for comps. I have a homewall, but it’s only at 45 degrees. Can someone supply either pictures of past comps, or tips to set a compy style? Thank you

Cu Soon SLC 👋🏻🧴🔵

Hey climbers!

I’m a doctorate of physical therapy, fellow boulderer, and apparently now the hand cream guy! 🔵👋🏻

I’ve been working on creating Bioheal Pro, a GHK-Cu copper peptide skin cream, after discovering a product I really enjoyed using myself to help improve skin durability and skin/abrasion health, as well as prevent glassy skin or split tips from overuse or excessive antihydral usage.

Soo my genuine passion for this product, plus being burnout as a director in orthopedics for 5+ years sent me down a rabbit hole of getting in contact with the original biochemist who founded the modern day topical version of this peptide formula.

The idea is pretty simple, brining a little more science and intention to climbing skincare. No miracle claims or gimmicks, just a product I’m excited about and want other climbers to experience.

I’ll be in Salt Lake City this weekend for the IFSC competition, and I’m planning to hit up local climbing gyms whenever I’m not watching the event.

I’ll have some samples with me, so if you’re attending the competition or climbing around SLC, shoot me a message!
I’d love to meet some fellow climbers, share what I’ve been working on, and get some more genuine feedback!!

Also, taking recommendations for gyms, places to visit, and anyone looking for a climbing partner! 👋🏻🔵

Hitting a craig between semis and finals at SLC?

My friend and I got tickets to the SLC World Cup and we're wondering how crazy it would be to try and fit in some climbing during the gap between semis and finals on Saturday/Sunday. From the schedule we've got 5+ hours between semis and finals and I'm seeing tons of spots within 30ish minutes (we will have a car) of the venue on Mountain Project. We'd also love some recommendations for spots. I've talked to some friends who used to climb in the SLC area and recommended BCC or American Fork I but wouldn't mind having additional intel or specific spots. We prefer no slab and looking for chill routes, say 5.9 or lower for sport, but open to higher if we can set a top rope. Since this is our first chance to attend a comp, we have no idea if this is a reasonable thing to try, but I really hope it is since the thought of being surrounded by so many craigs with my climbing partner but not go climbing kills me a little inside, especially since I drive through SLC a couple times a year and have been drooling over this rock for ages!
