Seeking neighborhood advice, looking to move. Also, crime maps?
Hello,
My family (my wife, baby, and I) is looking to move to the area and will be renting. We are looking at small homes in the Indio, Coachella, La Quinta, and Palm Desert area. While we are both somewhat familiar with the area, much of that time has been visiting people in gated communities who are insulated from life outside the gates. So their judgement of the local community is somewhat skewed and may not be a great representation. We wouldn't be opposed to living in a gated community ourselves, but I'm not sure if that is within our budget of less than $3k. So I'm seeking opinions here.
The ability for my wife to take local evening walks with the child in a stroller and feel comfortable is a big plus. Personally, I like neighborhoods that are good for joggers, and bonus points if there are parks that cater to calisthenic workouts. The Palm Desert Civic Center is enjoyable in this regard. We are moving from an area of LA County where walks often entail passing by the random, unpredictable, ranting and raving homeless person. Similarly, when visiting our nearest 7-11, expect a group of people to press you for change and/or free shit. While we are used to this, avoiding it would be a plus. We also deal with cars and mailboxes being broken into, even when in a garage. Once again, used to this sort of thing, but getting away from it would be nice. Not trying to go from one hood to another where we need to keep absolutely anything of value out of the car because it will get you a smashed window and your things taken.
Any neighborhood recommendations? A few places have been in the Cove, but I know absolutely nothing about the area other than some gossip from people who never lived there and just drive through it. Is it good? Bad? Vary heavily block to block?
Lastly, does anyone know of a decent crime map for the area so we can see spots to steer clear of? It looks like LexisNexis doesn't receive any reported data from local police agencies. Similarly, the Citizen app suspiciously shows nothing, but some power outages and FF/EMT activity. While I don't use the app often because of the fear mongering (like Nextdoor does as well), it usually is reliable to see where shit is going down. Are there other sources to see police activity?
Thanks in advance, potential future neighbors.

LF: Driving Buddy
Hi! I’m a new driver building confidence on the road and I’m looking for someone who can be with me while I drive from Tustin to Cat City (and back). Been doing public transpo for 3+ years now and I feel like it’s long overdue. Kind words and genuine offers only pls. Working in OC so will probably be a regular thing.

Is there a rental rights group in the CV?
I moved to Indio almost a month ago.
The apartment I applied for in July had some issues like non functional dishwasher and broken sliding doors, but the property manager assured they would be fixed before I moved in. She blamed most of the damages on the tenant before me and said they were evicted because of it.
I had to wait month for my then-current apartment's lease to end before I started packing.
A month later, none of the damages are fixed.
I sent emails, but no response. I called her number, but a text was sent to download some messaging app. I called days later and now says the number is not in service. I can't get ahold of her husband and my neighbors said they're experiencing the same thing.
If there is a group to help me out or the rest of the tenants on the property, that would be great!

I primarily reside in LA City now, but own property in Riverside County..where should I register to vote as a newly applying CA voter from another state?
Hi all, I just moved to CA 4 years ago and finally registering to vote; I do not want to miss this time around my opportunity to vote and I feel I have been a resident of CA long enough to understand the political climate and where I stand with regards to this matter.
I moved originally to my house I bought in Coachella Valley, but I got let go from my job last year and got hired in LA County—and thus moved closer to my job to reside in my place in the city of LA.
My question is I’m torn where to register to vote. I want to have investment where I have tangible property but I also would like to see and be a part of change in this city possibly. I want to get your opinion on if it were you , what would you do? Register to vote in RivCo or LA?
Thanks for your time reading this!

Basketball
Is there a place in CV for senior men’s basketball? Prefer pickup but looking for any type of regular game, preferably in an indoor gym. I’m late 60s but can hold my own with 40 and 50 year old players…

Visiting PS this winter -- any members of private golf courses willing to host me?
I’m a college student at the University of Minnesota, and I spend a couple of weeks in the La Quinta / Palm Desert area every winter. I've played all the good public courses in the area, and obv they're great. Still, I’d love to play a private golf course down there, but I don’t know any members, so I figured I’d ask here just for fun :)
Dates: ~Jan 6th - Jan 16th (I know peak szn makes it challenging)
Handicap: hovers between a 3 & 5
Not trying to be pushy. If anyone is open to it or knows a place that takes outside play, I'd appreciate it :)

Made a site for finding things to do in the Coachella Valley
Hi all. When I moved to the Coachella Valley a few years back, I had a hard time finding things to do, and I noticed others having the same problem. So I built a site that pulls events, activities, and specials from the area into a single place: https://regulars.in
I was pretty surprised to see how many things go on here, and I would have had no idea if it wasn't for this little side project.
So I'm sharing here in the hope that you find it useful as well. You can save your favorites, filter by category/city/etc., and view on a map. It's updated weekly, it's free, there are no ads, no paywall, and no signup needed.
It's new, and I'm still adding sources, so if you know a venue or organizer whose events should be on there and aren't, let me know and I'll add them.
Hope you like it.

What are the GOOD supermarkets?
Let me start by saying that, yes, I know that SoCal in general is not really noted for "great" supermarkets. I come from the northeast, where we had a chain (Wegman's, if you know the chain) that has EVERYTHING; meat, seafood, bakery, prepared foods, pharmacy, even get your flu and covid shots there. They even have "you-scan" carts if you want one. And the selection is ENORMOUS.
We also shop at all the places that the valley has; Aldi, Whole Foods, Trader Joe, but what chain comes the closest to what we are leaving behind?

Am I able to press charges if someone is spreading false accusations of me?
My daughter was bullied by a boy at the park, his mom denied it ever happened, then continued to yell at me and my daughter. I called her the “C” word and she takes a picture of me and posts it here saying I threatened her and her kid. Now I am getting death threats and harassed. Am I able to press charges for this slander, or what am I to do?

My wife and son were verbally attack at PD civic center park
This is a photo of the coward who verbally assaulted my wife and son at the park today. I was not there.
My wife took my 3 kids to civic center park this afternoon since they didn't have school, I was at work. This incident happened around 2:40pm. From what my wife told me, my son was playing in the playground when a girl about his age got very upset that my son got to a playground ladder first and climbed up ahead of her. My wife saw the whole thing and said that my son might have grazed her shoulder with his arm as he was boxing her out so he could climb up first. The girl threw a tantrum and stomped her feet because she was so upset.
That's when her dad, this coward in the photo, started attacking my wife and son, using profanities, and called my wife the C word multiple times. He threatened to beat up my wife and my son and called him profanities as well. The coward's wife was also there and also got in my wife's face. My wife is small but feisty and she did not back down. She thought she was recording video the whole time but she was so shaken that she only took a 1 sec video clip and got this photo from the clip.
Anyways, she is very shaken from this incident. Was anyone there who saw this happen? Does anyone know who this piece of garbage is?
