Nobody wants to see me retire early
I have made the decision to retire at some point next year. At age 52, my wife and I have $3.5 mil in investments and $1 mil in real estate equity, no debt. I’m super excited to turn the page on corporate career and look at life in a different way.
Wife is stay at home mom and 2 kids are in HS. I have analyzed this over and over, the math works with income and expenses over the short and long term.
But when I tell others my plan including close family and friends, all I hear is that I’m too young to retire, you need some kind of income or you need to do something or you will lose your mind
WTF? I’ve worked steadily for 30 years, sacrificing and saving to put myself in this position. And all I have are a bunch of skeptics around me.
Tell me I’m right, wrong or whatever you think or have experienced.
UPDATE: Thanks for all the responses, nearly 300 in just over 12 hours. Obviously many have faced this before. Many of you say why tell anyone. I really thought those around me would be happy for me and it’s a reason to celebrate. Guess not the case. But the countdown to retirement begins, thanks again!
