国际关系 | Intl Relations If fully loaded fighter jets can't take off from Chinese airbases in Tibet, why shouldn't the China look at Buddha International airport in Nepal as a potential PLA airbase?

Guys I am no expert in aviation or military affairs, but from my limited understanding of the matter after doing my own research, it does seem to be the case that Chinese fighter jets fully loaded with long-range air-to-air missiles do indeed face great difficulty while trying to take off from Chinese airbases in Tibet. If that is the case, and if it is indeed a vulnerability that gives the indian airforce, even a limited upper hand against the Chinese airforce, why shouldn't the PLA really look at the Buddha International airport in Lumbini as a suitable alternative?

Buddha International airport in Nepal has not been commercially viable for for half a decade, and one would guess Nepal would also be happy to make some money out of that airport, which has been sitting useless anyways. Further the airport being in the same district as Buddha's birthplace should also be reason enough for the PLA to have some serious presence in that area given that nearly 10% of Chinese citizens are Buddhist.

Thoughts?

咨询 | Seeking Advice (Serious) Is common for undergrad students to be this busy

I am friends with a chinese guy who is in his third year of university. He is studying computer science in a chinese university and the degree is English taught. We have known each other for almost three months now since we met on a language app. He keeps telling me how difficult he finds his lectures since he can't understand his teacher properly due to his heavy accent. So, he mostly records his lectures and reviews the materials again after class. He also has to complete his mandatory running and volunteer work. The problem is, sometimes when i text him, he replies after three or four hours and to that he explains that he has been quite busy. It's also almost always me initiating most of the conversations and I am the one being curious about his daily life. He did tell me he is an introvert and doesn't have many friends except his roommates which i found quite surprising. He even told me he has never been in a romantic relationship before which is even more surprising because he looks above average and quite attractive in my opinion. Now, I'm unsure if he only replies to my messages only out of respect and for the sake of it because I really don't want to seem pathetic and seem annoying but at the same time if he really doesnt want to talk to me he should just straight up tell me, right?

中国生活 | Life in China Medline factory worker request

Hi I live and work in the United States but our medical equipment company buys almost exclusively Medline brand products that are made in China. We unbox wheelchairs, beds, walkers, etc. that are all made in China. I would be interested in discussing with one or more of the factory workers what their daily life is like and how the factory operates. Kind of want to be the pen pal for someone and the ultimate would be getting a little message from the factory worker inside one of the boxes from China!

旅游 | Travel First trip to China (August 2027) – 17-day itinerary feedback (Shanghai & Yunnan)

Hi everyone!

I am starting to plan my first trip to China for August 2027. We already booked our round-trip flights from Milan to Shanghai.
We are a couple looking for a budget-conscious trip, with a strong preference for authentic local experiences. Since our primary goal is to explore the Yunnan province, we’ve put together a first draft of our itinerary. (We originally thought about adding Chengdu, but after some advice on TripAdvisor, we decided to skip it and save Sichuan for a future trip).

Here is our updated draft itinerary:

  • Aug 4: Arrival in Shanghai at 6pm. Transfer & overnight in Shanghai.
  • Aug 5: Shanghai (Yuyuan Garden, French Concession, Pudong skyline).
  • Aug 6: Shanghai (Tianzifang, Xintiandi, Huaihai Road, Urban Planning Center).
  • Aug 7: Shanghai (Jade Buddha Temple, local neighborhoods).
  • Aug 8: Flight Shanghai ➔ Dali (~3h30). Dali Ancient Town.
  • Aug 9: Dali (Erhai Lake by e-bike, Xizhou Village for Bai architecture).
  • Aug 10: Dali (Three Pagodas, Shuanglang town, Cangshan view).
  • Aug 11: Dali ➔ Shaxi (~1h30). Overnight in Shaxi.
  • Aug 12: Shaxi ➔ Lijiang
  • Aug 13: Lijiang (Naxi Village of Yuhu & Baisha Village).
  • Aug 14: Lijiang (Blue Moon Valley & Jade Dragon Snow Mountain area).
  • Aug 15: Lijiang ➔ Tiger Leaping Gorge (Upper Gorge) ➔ Shangri-La.
  • Aug 16: Shangri-La (Sumtseling Monastery & Dukezong Old Town).
  • Aug 17: Shangri-La (Napa Lake / Napa Hai grasslands).
  • Aug 18: High-speed train Shangri-La ➔ Lijiang + Flight Lijiang ➔ Shanghai.
  • Aug 19: Shanghai (Zhujiajiao water town).
  • Aug 20: Last visits in Shanghai & evening flight back to Europe.

I would love to get your thoughts and have a few questions:

  1. Where to stay in Lijiang & Dali: For Lijiang, I read that staying in Baisha (or Shuhe) might be much more relaxed and less noisy/touristic than staying directly inside Dayan Old Town. Do you agree? Similarly for Dali, would you advise staying just outside the Ancient Town (e.g., towards the south gate) to avoid the night noise?
  2. Shaxi overnight: Is it definitely worth staying one night in Shaxi, or is a day trip during the transfer to Lijiang enough?
  3. Transport & Private Drivers: For day trips like visiting Yuhu Village, or for the transfer from Lijiang to Shangri-La via Tiger Leaping Gorge, is it easy to use DiDi or hire a private driver through the hotel? We generally dislike large organized tours. Are there specific apps or local methods you recommend for booking private drivers?

Thanks so much for all your help!

Hi everyone! I will be travelling to Siguniangshan Town in November and was wondering if anyone has experiencing hiking there.

I would like to do trails away from the busiest routes, and just day hikes.

If anyone has info regarding this, the time of year or park entry I would appreciate it

Thanks!

文化 | Culture Southern China itinerary, January - feedback wanted

Hey everyone! I'll be travelling around southern China for roughly 10 days in January and would appreciate feedback on my route, and would like to know any changes you guys would make in destinations, and recommendations for favourite things to do there.

My planned stays are Xiamen (2 nights), Yunshuiyao/tulou (1), Chaozhou (2), Shenzhen (2), Guangzhou (3) and Yangshuo (2), and a night in Nanning. I'd also like to do a day trip to Hong Kong from Shenzhen.

I'm interested in traditional towns, architecture, food, scenery, markets and nightlife, particularly Huaqiangbei in Shenzhen and the clothing wholesale markets in Guangzhou.

Does this route make sense, or am I trying to squeeze in too much? Is Hong Kong realistic as a day trip, and are the tulou and Chaozhou worth visiting?

I'd love recommendations for other places, local food and transport between destinations, and also what you guys would change or if there’s anywhere else you would go? Thanks.
