I (27y/o in U.S) have a 6 month old (not neutered) male tabby that has started walking with his hind legs bowed/ tucking his hind legs in. This behavior started 4 days ago, he was still very active (jumping onto surfaces, running around etc) and then a say or so later stopped moving as much and started walking wobbly on his hind legs, twitching his tail more, having trouble jumping onto things, mostly laying in the same spot all day and sleeping a lot more. He has continued eating and drinking regularly. His bathroom habits were completely normal until 2 days ago when his bowel movements got much smaller. He is still urinating a regular amount- we switched to white/ ph color changing litter when this all started and everything is normal. I took him to the vet 2 days ago and they said all seems fine with him neurologically and “time will be our best indicator here”. She checked his abdomen which is not swollen and he is not showing any signs of pain in that area or in his hind legs. His fip/ fiv/ snap elisa tests came back negative, the vet ordered blood testing ($400) that I can’t afford this week. I have another vet appointment at a different office in 5 days.
We got him from a bad environment with a lot of cats. He was 4 weeks old when we got him- he was on meal replacer until 9 weeks. Around 4 months he started showing signs of pica- only licking surfaces, never eating dirt or litter etc. The vet (last month) seemed unworried about it and said some cats are just into some surfaces, since we had never had a problem with swallowing things in the past I didn’t worry. I switched to Acana high protein kitten food 1 month ago (right after vet appointment)
Any help or advice is appreciated. I have an appointment at a different vet in 5 days but I just want my little guy to feel better again. I know this will be an expensive journey figuring things out which is why I have to spread testing etc out so any help in the mean time or suggestions is very appreciated.
