Any ideas how i can replace a broken spoke on my trailer. The parking brake plastic hub blocks access to the eyelets and I can't work out how to remove it. Surely there's a way to take this parking brake cap off. Any help hugely appreciated.

cargo e-bike brands/models that also work well without e-assist?

My wife and I want to get a cargobike and would like to know good brands/models that fit our particular use case preferences. We have 2 kids (2yo) and bike commute around Boston (to/from school, etc).

Criteria/preferences:

1) Works well without e-assist. I would be open to just an acoustic cargo bike because I'd appreciate the exercise of hauling 1-2 kids without e-assist (and we don't have too many nasty hills to contend with, etc), although my wife in particular would appreciate e-assist (and I probably would too at times).

2) Able to carry 2+ kid passengers (we have a 2yo and a tall 6yo)

3) Easily adjustable for different rider (driver?) heights. I am 6'1" and my wife is 5'6" and we might frequently switch off using it.

4) Good rain protection options for our 2 kid passengers (6yo and 2yo). We live in Boston, so we might leave it on through the winter to keep out the cold wind.

Hi, I have recently picked up a used Lectric Xpedition that did not come with the “orbitor”. I was wondering if there is an aftermarket option that you all like? I’d like to have something like that in the event that I end up shiny side down. I’m Open to buying the oem but can’t seem to find what this apparatus is called.

A-head adapter Bobike and moustache

I have a moustache lundi 20.3 (cargo) and wanted to install a Bobike mini one seat in the front. I went to the bike shop yesterday to have the a-head adapter for e-bike installed but they told me it was not possible. Has anyone managed to install this ?

Daily commuting cargo bike that will hold an adult passenger and work bag ?

I’ve been searching around and seem to have landed on the LECTRIC expedition 2.0

I was just wondering if anyone else has had this experience in Manhattan? I plan on driving it maybe 10 miles everyday to carry me and my fiance too and from work over the Williamsburg bridge!

I do it mostly on my gravel bike that is really not meant for two people so I want the electric. Want to make her more comfortable for her and make it easier on me!

She weighs approximately 160 pounds and her backpack weighs, approximately 20-30 pounds

My backpack weighs at most 10? And I’ll probably carry a kryptonite lock chain, and a diamond Kryptonite U lock

Do you guys think this bike would be enough? Or should I get one more heavy duty?

Looking to buy a cargo bike to take kid to the park that will work till they're able to bike with me.

I live in an auto dependent suburb, but driving is drudgery and there's an absolutely wonderful and safe-ish neighborhood route to about 6 or so parks in the area. Kids not here yet but will be come March; what should I look for in a cargo bike that can haul from the age of 3 months to maybe 5 years old? Also bonus if it can carry a lot of weight. I currently bike with a ftp of 230, the area is relatively flat and I'm a big dude (6'3, 285 lbs)

advices about petit porteur alternatives

Hey! I'm looking for a cargo bike similar to the Petit Porteur OG. I really like its look and the overall idea behind it.

Ideally, I'd like a relatively small, lightweight and manoeuvrable daily bike that can carry some stuff on a front rack or platform, with the option of adding a rear seat to carry a passenger.

I'm open to both mechanical and electric bikes, but if it's a mechanical one, I'd like to be able to convert it to an e-bike later on.

It's mainly for everyday commuting, not for working as a courier, so I'm not looking for a big, heavy cargo bike.

Does anyone know of any good alternatives or frame builders/suppliers worth checking out? Thanks!

Tern GSD P00. A good bike?

Hi guys

I've been looking around for a longtail cargo bike to transport my 2 kids.

Together they already weigh 60kg so a lot of brands are already at the limit.

There's one from Urban Arrow that can go up to 80kg but because they can grow fast, I think the 100kg limit is better.

Is the Tern worth the price?

Anything I should look out for?

Affordable quality front light?

Was curious what others have done for replacement front lights.

I have a 2018 Urban Arrow that I'm upgrading, and the front light is severally lacking.

One potential option:

busch&müller IQ-XS E Highbeam

Also wondering how others have mounted Garmin Varia Radar's on the back of cargobikes.

Between a Nexus 5 and XT - help me decide!

Hi r/CargoBike, I’m consulting the hive mind since I’m at an impasse.

I’m just about ready to pull the trigger on an e-Bullitt. Been riding a non-electric one for a couple years and love the platform but would like the assist of a motor. It’s mostly used for hauling cargo, pulling trailers, advocacy events, and the occasional foster dog or very rare adult human passenger.

I have two options:
1. EP801 with Shimano XT, shipped from Portland to NYC
2. EP600 with Nexus 5 / Gates, picked up by me in Philadelphia (90 minute drive each way)

I’ve decided that the motor type doesn’t matter, since they’re fairly close in performance. All else being equal, I think I’d prefer the XT drivetrain since it can handle more torque, has a greater range, and can be easily maintained by myself (even if it’s a shorter maintenance interval). That said, the Nexus bike is available for $2,500 cheaper, before a rental truck and sales tax.

If the gear range and torque is adequate for me, I’d have no problem keeping the bike as a Nexus w/ Belt, but I worry I’ll want to make a conversion to a derailleur system, which would of course increase the cost significantly.

With all that said, I’d love to hear your input. Do you own a Nexus 5 in a hilly area and feel like it’s powerful enough for heavy loads? Did you upgrade to an EP801 and realize it’s well worth the money? Do you think the simplicity of belt drive outweighs the power loss?

Thanks in advance!

Service for R&M/Rohloff/Bosch Failure

I love my Load 75, had it for 5 years now, but the Rohloff E-14 shifter has always been balky. I own two other Rohloff bikes (non-electric) and one is better than the other but both manual shifters are much better than the E-14, which never really improved over 5000+ km of riding.

Now, the E-14 has failed completely, leaving my bike stuck in a high gear, and not only has R&M withdrawn from the US market, my local dealer in the SoCal area, Propel Electric Bikes, has shuttered its West Coast operation, and the closest authorized Rohloff service center seems to be up in SF - 500 miles from me, which might as well be another country. And trying to find someone to service it, with the integration into the Bosch drive, has proved difficult to say the least.

There was another dealer in the LA and San Diego areas, Fly Rides, which has also closed and bringing the bike to SF would be… quite a haul. If anyone has any ideas about anyone in the SoCal area I might get to either repair it or just pull the E-14 and replace it with a manual Rohloff shifter, I’d love to hear them.

Test rode an interesting Long John today: Front hub steering and a 19cm deck clearance

Thumbnail

Got to test out a Long John cargo bike today.

Instead of the usual external steering linkage, it uses a front hub steering system. It also has a one-piece carbon fiber front fender.

The frame is aluminum, and the cargo space is roughly 50x60x60cm.

The floorboard clearance is only 19cm off the ground. The low center of gravity makes it pretty stable to ride. It’s also very practical if you ride with a dog. Mine almost stepped right into the box. Definitely convenient if you have a larger dog.

For the drivetrain, it is powered by a 250W rated mid-drive motor, paired with an Enviolo belt CVT.

Just wanted to share some details and pics here

Edit:
Just a quick correction and some extra details on the steering setup—it actually does still use a steering linkage. The front hub steering is designed to completely replace the traditional front fork. Getting rid of the fork is exactly what allows the cargo deck to sit so incredibly low to the ground.

I also looked a bit more into why they went with this hub design. Since the steering axis is right at the hub, the braking forces go directly into the frame structure rather than stressing a traditional headset and steerer tube. This setup reduces brake dive and high-speed shimmy (speed wobble), making it more stable under heavy loads or on descents. Also, because the steering bearing only handles steering loads and doesn't take the braking torque, it’s supposed to last longer than a standard fork and headset system, which means less maintenance.
