Advice Needed Fujifilm lens help

Joining a tour for a few days and wanted to bring my Fujifilm XS20. Lots of filming in the car of the driver from passenger seat, walking around the city, backstage bts and live show. Looking for a lens that would be great to pair with this camera. Will be renting and flying with it so preferably nothing too large. Thanks!

Discussion Title: Canon EOS R8 vs R7 for the RF 200-800mm — Full frame low-light performance or APS-C reach?

Hi everyone!

I'm planning to buy the Canon RF 200-800mm f/6.3-9 IS USM, mainly for planespotting and aircraft photography. The lens will probably be the same whichever camera I choose, so my main dilemma is whether to pair it with the Canon EOS R8 or the Canon EOS R7.

I'm particularly interested in hearing from people who have used these cameras with long telephoto lenses for aircraft photography.

My two options are:

\- Canon EOS R8: 24.2 MP full-frame sensor.

\- Canon EOS R7: 32.5 MP APS-C sensor.

The R8 appeals to me because of its full-frame sensor and better high-ISO performance. I often photograph aircraft in changing light, including cloudy days and situations where I need to keep a fast shutter speed. Since the RF 200-800mm is relatively slow at the long end, especially at f/9, low-light performance is an important consideration.

Another major advantage of the R8 is its wider field of view with the same lens. At 200mm, the R8 gives me a genuinely useful 200mm field of view, whereas the R7 gives me a field of view equivalent to approximately 320mm on full frame.

This worries me because aircraft can sometimes pass quite close, and 200mm might already be too long in certain situations. With the R7, the framing would be even tighter. I know I could use my phone or another camera for wider shots, but I'd prefer a setup that can handle more situations without constantly changing equipment.

On the other hand, the R7 has 32.5 MP compared with the R8's 24.2 MP. For distant aircraft, that extra pixel density could be a significant advantage, particularly when I want to crop my photos as little as possible.

I understand that the APS-C crop factor doesn't physically increase the focal length or make the lens brighter. It simply gives me a narrower field of view. However, the R7 places more pixels across the aircraft, which could help me capture more detail when the subject is far away.

I also know that the R7 has in-body image stabilisation, while the R8 relies on the lens's optical stabilisation. The RF 200-800mm already has optical IS, so I'm not sure how important the R7's additional stabilisation would be in practice, particularly when photographing moving aircraft at fast shutter speeds.

I'm also considering the cost of the complete setup. I could buy the R7 with the RF-S 18-150mm kit lens for around €1,100, giving me a versatile lens for general photography. Alternatively, I could buy the R8, possibly with a kit lens or as a body only, and put the RF 200-800mm on it.

My questions are:

  1. For planespotting, is the R7's additional pixel density more valuable than the R8's full-frame high-ISO performance?

  2. How much better is the R8's noise performance in real-world conditions when shooting at f/9 and fast shutter speeds?

  3. Does the R7 genuinely resolve more detail on distant aircraft, or does noise and diffraction reduce its advantage?

  4. How limiting is the 200mm minimum focal length on the R8, and how much more difficult would it be to frame nearby aircraft with the R7?

  5. Would the R8 be the more versatile choice for airport spotting, where aircraft can be both very far away and unexpectedly close?

  6. Does the R7's in-body image stabilisation make a meaningful difference when paired with the RF 200-800mm, which already has optical IS?

  7. Would you buy the R7 with the 18-150mm kit lens for around €1,100, or choose the R8 and invest in the 200-800mm as the main lens?

  8. Considering that I also photograph general subjects and occasionally basketball, which camera would be the better long-term investment?

My main priority is aircraft photography, especially distant aircraft where reach and detail matter. However, I don't want to sacrifice too much low-light performance or struggle to frame aircraft that pass close to me.

I'm not looking for a simple full-frame-versus-APS-C debate. I'd like to know which camera would give me the best real-world results with the RF 200-800mm, considering image quality, high ISO, cropping, framing flexibility and the overall cost of the setup.

Camera Lens Samyang 35-150 - use in macro?

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I’m seriously considering buying the Samyang 35-150mm lens for my Sony A7IV and Sony A7RIII.

I’m looking for a versatile, "all-in-one" lens—I’d prefer to avoid constantly swapping lenses.

I currently own the Samyang 24-70mm f/2.8, but 70mm feels a bit too short.

I also have a few portrait lenses, as well as a 70-200mm f/2.8, but I’m thinking about getting the 35-150mm and selling the 70-200mm.

I know it’s not a dedicated macro lens, but I’d love to have an all-in-one solution—something that would also allow for decent close-ups, for example, of wedding rings during a shoot.

If you own this lens, could you please share some of your "macro" shots?

Ideally, I’d love to see examples taken at 150mm f/2.8 and 35mm.

Thanks a lot!

Best regards,

Camera Lens Nikon ZR First Timer Lenses

Hey there, just got a Nikon ZR.

I've basically bought this to start my video / DOP journey. I'd be filming my family - really keen to capture my young kids life and keep it as a keepsake for when they get older.

Essentially I want to cover portraits, detail shots of their room, get in close with them playing a little bit of action and so forth. Anyone love any particular lenses?

Happy to look at both Nikon and other brands, budget would be about 1500-2000 and maxing that out on 2 lenses ideally. I have other gear like tripods etc already.

Even any tips on gimbles etc.

Advice Needed 85mm EF 1.8 vs. RF 1.4 . . . worth $1,400 price difference?

I made the mistake of borrowing an RF 85mm 1.4 from my primary during a wedding last weekend and am regretting it because I loved it.

She's selling a pristine EF 1.8 for $200 that I'd obviously have to use an adapter for on all my mirrorless bodies. Naturally what I want is a new RF but are the seemingly minor tech upgrade and extra stop worth paying $1,600 for versus $200 for a good EF 1.8? (I'll pick up a 1.2 right after I win the lottery.) Thanks!

EDIT: Not that it matters for this but my usual carry for all events is 24-105 f4 on my right for main, 50 1.8 on my left.

I am happy to buy used and can also take advantage of student discounts.

Advice Needed Objektive zum üben für Sony A 7V

Hallo Community
