Wildfires are burning in California. I just launched a simple fire-retardant gel kit to help protect homes and valuables

I’ve lived in the Southern California area for years and, like many here, I’ve spent each fire season wondering what I’d take with me if I had to evacuate again.

Every time I pack my car, I have to make decisions about what I value most, and I always take a video of my home in case I never see it again.

To try to do something about the powerlessness I feel, I finally decided to launch something I’ve been working on:

HydroBarrier is a dry mix that becomes a fire-retardant gel or foam when you add water.
You can spray it on fences, plants, roofs... anything you want to shield from flying embers or heat. It’s biodegradable, easy to apply, and safe for vegetation.

I built it to be:

  • Affordable
  • Shelf-stable
  • Actually usable during a wildfire warning

It’s part of a bigger project I’m calling EmberWatch, to help people protect their homes before the fire arrives.

Website: [www.emberwatch.org/hydrobarrier]()

We’d love any feedback, questions, or even beta testers.
This is just the beginning. Ideas welcome.

Anyone near the SJ area?

Just got into prepping a bit recently and I've been taking some classes. Just looking for some like minded peeps to connect with in the area.

i just took stop the bleed, cpr/first aid and a wilderness first responder class. took a glock/ar basics course a couple of months back. seems like those who take those classes are more medical students and/or those looking to have a career in those fields rather than prepping.

Anyone down to go on a hike/go to the range/exercise?

Getting ready

I've been gradually gaining supplies and readiness for an array of catastrophes for a number of years now. I think my current weakest link right now is needing to grow my network of friends who are ready for whatever may come. So... hello friends!

A bit more about myself; I consider myself broadly technically capable, thanks to my background in mechanical engineering, machine shop experience, automotive repair experience, electronics experience, computer/software engineering experience, ham license, firearms collection, and outdoor hobbies.

One of my latest concerns is fire danger. Lots of fire danger around here.

Anybody hang around Briones for exercise / fun / playing with radios / mountain biking / navigating?

Prepping Property For Sale

Hey guys. I’m in New Mexico and I know of a house that is hitting the market that is a prepper’s dream. It’s a pretty sizable property and it is fully sustainable. Every door and window has hurricane shutters, it has a solar system with back up generator and batteries, RV parking, and so much more. Reach out to me if you want more info. The house is going to be listed around 2 million. It’s on one acre of land. The heated part of the house is 6365 square feet and there’s also a 1487 square foot enclosed porch that wraps almost around the whole house.

Earthquake I'm worried the San Andreas fault will go off 8/20/23 between 3 - 8pm PST

Data:

Maps overlaid:

Why there hasn't been a major San Andreas fault quake in 300 years:

So, being that there's predicted "extreme" flooding on top of the fault and the zone of the old dried up lake, now called the Salton Sea, I predict The Big One will happen tomorrow in the PM (Pacific Time Zone).

Looking for local preppers - Disaster readiness

Dear fellow community,

As we face increasing uncertainty and potential threats in our world, it is more important than ever to be prepared for anything that may come our way. That is why I am writing to you today to propose the formation of a prepper group - a group of like-minded individuals who are committed to preparing for emergencies, natural disasters, or any other unexpected events.

Whether it is a major power outage, a pandemic, or a terrorist attack, the reality is that we never know what might happen in the future. But by working together and pooling our resources, we can be better equipped to handle any situation that comes our way. Here are just a few reasons why it is important to form a prepper group:

  1. Safety in numbers: In any emergency, there is safety in numbers. By working together, we can supply mutual support and aid when needed.
  2. Shared resources: By pooling our resources, we can ensure that we have enough supplies, equipment, and knowledge to handle any situation that arises.
  3. Specialized skills: Each member of our group has unique skills and knowledge that can be invaluable in an emergency. By working together, we can tap into each other's ability and learn from one another.
  4. Community building: In addition to preparing for emergencies, forming a prepper group is also a wonderful way to build community and get to know our neighbors better.

If you are interested in joining our prepper group, here is what we have in mind:

  • Regular meetings to discuss and plan for various emergency scenarios.
  • Training sessions to learn new skills (such as first aid, self-defense, and wilderness survival)
  • Group purchases of emergency supplies (such as food, water, medical supplies, and communication equipment)
  • Social events to get to know each other better and build camaraderie.

If you are passionate about being prepared for emergencies and want to work together with like-minded individuals to ensure the safety and well-being of yourself and your loved ones, then please consider joining our prepper group. We welcome anyone who shares our values and commitment to preparedness.

To express your interest or learn more feel free to message me, I look forward to hearing from you and working together to build a stronger and more prepared community.

Communication looking for like minded individuals.

I'm located in the Covina/ West Covina area and am looking for people to network and brainstorm with about preps along with strategies when things get interesting. I'm originally a resident of Oklahoma where I grew up so I'm a little ahead of the game on how to react because of tornadoes and freezes. Anyway, DM me if anyone is interested.

DIY Well for Irrigation/Bees

I have vacant parcels in a highly regulated part of the country (CA) and fall in to the "coastal commission". I'm trying to prepare the land to have bees but I need water.

I want to use a DIY drill kit. Has anyone had luck with these in the mountainous areas of California?

Alternatively, I'm looking at water cistern kits but we have limited rain and no existing structures to capture rain from. If anyone else has suggestions on that, I'd appreciate your suggestions/tips
