Hello! A bit about myself, Im 30F and a month into moving to Calgary from Ottawa. I like horror & science fiction in every media type!
I became a DM last year, after realizing how impossible it is to find a group even amoung your friends who play. So I decided to make my own! D&D seems to be a weirdly impossible world to break into! Ive played 2e with my dad, 5e one-shots with friends and a brief Lancer game back in University. I currently run a game with 8 long distance friends who all hadnt played before prior to our game! We've done 4 games over the past year! So by no means the most experienced on my end either!
I am looking to run a new in person campaign in Calgary to make some new friends!
I prefer homebrew stories over modules, as I find it more fun! I would like to loosely stick to 5e rules in the world, but am willing to bend them if the team is alright with it (ie, additional playable races, monsters). I find modules tend to be more monotonous to run, and theres spoilers everywhere people can look up! Plus, a lot of my joy in DM'ing comes from creating my own stories/characters/maps! Hopefully you dont mind this either.
Im looking for new/less experienced players to try to help people who have been trying to break into the world get their toes in! I feel like everyone I speak to either has a game that doesnt need more people, or have been trying to play for years! So I want to run something for people who finally want to play!
What kind of new players am I looking for?
Someone who is willing to play in person. My other game is all online, which is fun! But, I really miss the in person aspect of playing the game!
Someone willing to do a fun homebrew story that Ive written.
Someone willing to be able to participate at least once monthly! Id like to try bi-weekly, but also know that thats not really the most feasible! I would like to run the game on either Saturdays or Sundays. For time, my games usually run 4-8 hours!
Someone looking to make friends, I don't want this game to be muddled with people looking for something romantic.
I'd prefer a group aged 25+, just for commonality not content! Gender/race is irrelevant to me. This will be a LGBT+ safe place. 🙂
D&D is supposed to be a fun bonding experience! Id prefer people who aren't the stereotypical 'murder hobos' who just want to destroy everything in the world without any actual reason, or who think they should be allowed to attack party members. I have no patience for people who aren't trying to be part of a team. You'll be better off playing RPG's on your own than a collaborative experience.
That being said, Im not a militant DM! I love bending the rules to allow a big or cool moment! Im not here to wipe parties or lord over a team, I want to help facilitate people having fun and getting into a notoriously difficult game to find a group for. Mistakes are welcome and encouraged, they tend to lead to fun story moments! I prep for multiple paths in a story, and dont expect players to follow a linear line that I create! 🙂
If youd like to give this a shot, drop a comment with a bit about yourself, why you want to play and Ill comment back and form a group if there's any interest!
Edit: Just on break from work! Im based downtown/beltline but am willing to commute to whats easiest for the group! I'll start replying to everything once my job ends at 5pm to give some more time for people interested to comment! 🙂
